Upgrade from a stable body style with proven reliability to a brand new one all for possibly two extra graphics cores, slightly faster CPU cores when the things I use my M1 Airs for are perfectly served by said M1 Airs? Because, what? It's NEWER? Sounds like a perfectly bad idea!
Ironically, you could sell me on the M2 13" MacBook Pro, but only because it's a stable body style, I don't hate the TouchBar, and I could probably sell my M1 13" MacBook Pro to make the upgrade cost kind of okay. But that's more for having as new of a machine on what is clearly a lame duck body style than it is for ACTUALLY NEEDING an M2 where an M1 was more or less fine.

Agreed on 16GB version. I'm trusting that my 8GB will get me through the OS updates over the next year or two when Apple officially drops support for the 2020 M1........
Why do you think Apple is going to stop offering OS updates to the M1 Air in two years???

Nope. Hanging on to my 1Tb 16Gb M1 MBA. Can't think of anything close to a legitimate reason to upgrade.

Now if Apple brought back those bright candy colors (like on the old iMacs), I would upgrade in a heartbeat. 🤣
I’ll be buying a maxed out model with 16 or 24 GB RAM and the cool dual charging power adapter. I’ve been looking for a quality compact dual USB-C charger for ages.

Only bought the 2020 M1 base MBA for cheap last year as a stop gap. The 8 GB RAM is a limiting factor for me and the webcam is atrocious. The webcam is the main annoyance on an otherwise phenomenal machine I got at a bargain price of £800 for an open box model.

Would’ve liked the candy colours like the iMac.

I look at my current M1 MBA then I look at the same spec on the M2 costing me £1,749 and as much as I like the look of the new device and that blue, midnight whatever they want to call it. I am going to sit this one out. Just not enough on offer to warrant giving up my perfectly great M1 MBA Wedge.

£1,749, not the 'budget, worlds most popular laptop' anymore.

I will upgrade right away if they ever make a 15 inch version of the redesign. Other than that, I'm keeping my M1 MBA for a long time.
Yea I don't see that happening... Numerous people on this board have been lobbying for that but I don't see it...especially when they introduced the 14 and 16" pros last year.

I'd have to spend €1979 on the M2 equivalent of my €1499 8/8/1TB M1 I bought for €1499. I was both hoping for the iMac colours, because PURDY, and hoping they wouldn't happen, because I couldn't justify spending another €200 or so after selling my M1. Now that it's €480 AND I don't get my candy colours, I'm out.

While we're at it, what is the point of the 13" Macbook "Pro" which actually has worse specs than the Air? The old 720p webcam, two USB-C/Thunderbold sockets, and no Magsafe. All it brings to the table is having a fan (and the TouchBar). Am I missing something?

No, the new M2 Air offers nothing new for my needs. If I needed a new laptop then yes, the M2 Air would be my first choice, but my M1 Air should last for years.

500 nits display on the M2 is very appealing to me, I find the M1 400 nits display a bit too dim at full brightness. Plus the display is taller and I can place the menu bar at the top and gain those pixels for my workspace.

The rest of the upgraded specs don't really make a big difference except maybe the better camera, but I am looking at the screen all the time when I use it, so Apple will get my money for an M2.

Agreed. I have no idea why people are treating laptops like phones or watches. These are devices meant to work for 3+ years at minimum, specially after paying $1.2k to $2k for one.

The M1 meets my needs for a Mac almost exactly. Without a smaller footprint, the M2 Air actually has a larger footprint, I'll never have a pressing desire to upgrade.

After one year of use i'm still happy with my MBA M1 (8/8/16/512) - no reason for an upgrade :)
My 8/8/1TB M1 Air cost less than the basic config of the M2. I'd like to upgrade to 16 GB RAM. That would cost me €2209 – I paid €1499 for the M1. Today it would cost €1679 with the 8/7 cores, as the 8/8 (which I have) seems discontinued. Turns out this laptop not only doesn't depreciate, it becomes more valuable with time. Also, I love the wedge.

The only upgrade I can see in my future is finding an open box 16/1TB M1 Air at shockingly low price. I was really hoping for more *horizontal* screen estate (Tweetdeck requires 98% scaling to look the way I want it to, and while that's a very first world problem, extra 0.1" would probably solve it). When the 15" Air comes out I simply know I won't be able to afford it. So, to quote my favourite philosopher Madonna, I'm keeping my baby.

The new air is barely thinner than the 2020 M1 / 2022 M2 Pro with Touch Bar in the iJustine video.

I dont like this :(
Don’t care how thin it is. I’ve never understood why thinness matters (within reason). I care about how much it weighs. In this case, 2.7 pounds vs 3.0 pounds. The Air is 10% lighter. It’s noticeable.

Again it does (imo)

Thinner and wedged = my wrists aren’t feeling the sharp edge the 13” MBP I do when it’s on a desk

But weight is more important than thinness overall I do agree in terms of priority

Nope. I got my M1 just after release for a stupid good price, I think I paid £840 brand new for base model. I'd get around £700 give or take if I sold it, with the price increase this makes it a very expensive change in contrast with the minimal upgrade. I'd sooner put that money into my gaming PC, but that doesn't need any upgrades currently either.

Apple Refurbed store... maybe Swappa... I bet you can get a good price on the 16gb/1TB m1, 16gb makes a significant difference as I tried both configurations.

I just don’t understand why the new iMacs get all these fun colors while the new MBA doesn’t. Seems like an absolute no-brainer to boost sales and appeal.

I bought and returned the 2020 MB Air because the 400 nits wasn’t bright enough for me. The 2022 Air has 500 nits, a welcomed improvement.

I bought my Air in Dec, I am perfectly happy with the M1 model. As of right now no value in upgrading for myself. M1 fits perfectly all my needs.
