If you try hard enough, even an iron bar is going to become flexible ;)
Yeah, I know but my point being that MBA front tapered edge bends more easily than that of in MBP 13.3".
Which is kinda funny as MBP 13.3" 2019 model felt otherwise less solid in some ways, like trackpad clicking sound very hollow compared to solid click in MBA. I'm not sure about the latest MBP 14 and 16 model chassis, I haven't test them enough to compare.

So I wonder whether new design MBA chassis is more like that of in MBP 13.3" in rigidness of the chassis?

Also I'm not sure about new design MBA chassis real thickness, I've seen some videos with MBP 13.3" next to it and it looks almost as thick. Probably less rounded design makes it appear fatter than it is which also makes MBA M1 look so thin. I realize in real life that does not make much difference since MBA M1 is already pretty thin but I had MBP 13.3" 2019 before I got MBA M1 and I like the MBA design more in many ways. Touch choice whether to upgrade to MBA M2 or not. I don't really use much my MBA M1, so I don't really need a laptop but "we wants it, we needs it". :)

M2 MacBook Air

M2 MacBook Pro

4.3 mm difference is pretty small

Yeah, I'm familiar with the specs and realize by the numbers there is not much difference but still nearly half centimeter should be noticeable yet in videos these two in the same image, the difference appear much less.
So I'm wondering from what point the thickness is actually measured.
For example MBA M1 thinnest point is just the "tip" of the front, just few millimeters forward centre of the machine and thickness increase hugely. So what is the total thickness including legs in the highest part between the two? That is what I'm interested in finding out.

Mostly interesting it would be to see MBA M2 next to MBA M1 in different angles/edges compared to each other.
I have a hunch M1 might actually appear thinner in many ways. I hope I'm wrong.

I have a base m1 Air and it works well and I love the form factor. But the lack of disk space and more importantly memory means it is already slowing down in day to day usage. So I will look at the M2 Air with 16 GB/512 GB and see if it works for me. I just hope the M2 version is still as easy to carry around as my current Air.

Got an 8/10 core, 16gb/512gb, with 35w dual charger in my “saved” list right now - checking daily for the “add to bag” to be available!

UPDATE: Well, I picked up 14" MBP instead! Looking forward to seeing the MBAs when they come out though!

I've owned mine for around 100 days. I had my now-just-about-retired MBP for 12 years: roll on 2034 for my next upgrade!
If you don't mind me asking, what spec of MBP have you used for 12 years? And what spec of M1 are you using until 2034?

also the wedge shape removes the rough edge you feel when you rest your wrists on it, on a desk.

I experience this with my 2016 nTB 13" MBP.

Same, the wedge makes for a better typing experience. I was using a HHKB instead of the MBP keyboard, whilst now I am back to using the Air's keyboard.

I gave the M2 a thought, since I'll be able to get it tax free, but decided against it. Even if the M3 is just a die shrink of the M2 -- that would be nice jump up from the M1.

You can get the MacBook Air M2 if you don't already possess its predecessor the MacBook Air M1. If you already have the latter, it doesn't make any sense to change your notebook.

It is like if you have the iPhone 13 Pro and as soon as the iPhone 14 Pro is available, you want to get it...

Definite resounding no.
There are way better things to spend that same money on, the best of which I've been told by admin I can't mention because this is a family show.

I don't think this is an issue with M2 Air since the front edge is about the same height as in M1 Air, there is still the same edge in both models against your wrist. I doubt slight elevation of hinge side of the chassis makes any difference to that as angle is not much in M1 Air.

I'm still flipping a coin whether to order M2 Air as soon as it comes available or just keep using my old M1 Air.
I think it would be best to wait until it is available and reviews and user comments are over the internet. But then if I decide to get one it is probably so long back order that it would take couple of months to get one...
The only thing in M2 Air for me is the new shape I'm interested in but not really sure if I like it or not, I'd need to hold one myself to determine that.

I have the 2009 (probably base spec, knowing me) MBP, still running Slow Leopard; 4gb RAM; C2D; 250gb storage. I'm a bit of a modular user, so I still use it for plenty of creative apps - it's just no longer very internet-friendly, and the battery's in pretty poor shape. I have the base level M1 Air (a modern portable necessity as of last year). I'm not as yet the kind of person that just has one main machine to do everything - so I also a couple of desktop machines and iPads - none of them a particularly breathtaking spec.

(The '2034' reference was perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek :))

Yeah man. I bought a Mini M1 maybe a week before getting the Air M1 (got the Air so that I could be mobile and nearer the family in the evenings). Prior to that, I'd been using an iMac Late 2009, which stopped getting updates years ago.

I really don't think Apple expect M1 Air owners to upgrade to M2 Air. The money you would lose makes it a completely cost-ineffective upgrade. On the one hand what right have I to tell people what to spend their money on, but on the other hand, if you want to make a tangible difference, donate the money you would spend upgrading to an M2, for very little real-world improvement, to a homeless shelter.

Agreed - would be a lot more compelling if it was just a couple hundred out of pocket. as it stands with max trade in of $400 for Air last I checked, $700-800 + tax out of pocket is not overly compelling to me personally haha

I love my M1/8/512 but I really want a 2TB SSD internal so I can ditch the X5. I am not impressed with the notch. If I can convince my credit card, I actually want to look at a M2/16/2TB Pro. The price point puts it near 14/16" territory and I don't need more power I need more storage.

Yeah the trade in price is weak right now. They quoted me 490 for my M1.

its not that all of those are deal breakers, but the Air is $100 less AND you get all that stuff. its a no brainer and the value prop for the 2022 13" isnt there. Its not a bad device Im sure and again for a deep discount I think it would be a nice score but I dont understand shelling out $1300 for this when the $999 and $1199 M1 and M2 Airs exist.
Should be pointed out that the base MBP has 10 GPU cores. So if you want 10 GPU cores, it’s a $100 increase on the MBA, so then you’re looking at the same price.

With the 14 MacBook Pro on sale now (200) at BestBuy and Amazon, that might be the better option. You get a bigger screen, pro motion, great brightness, more ports and still a superior chip.
