They missed me this year by not including the mini LED on the 11". That was the dealbreaker for upgrading from the 2018 iPad Pro, especially since they will likely add it to next year's model. I hate when they do that. They're both PRO devices.
If there are constraints in panel supplies, I can understand why Apple will prioritise the larger screen size But I also get how this could be an opportunity to upsell early adopters to the more expensive model.

Oh, that makes sense :) It’s not so much “so few apps available for music making on ipadOS.”, because there are a LOT of those. But, more “so few apps available for those making music mostly using very expensive orchestral VSTs”.

ESPECIALLY when you consider that those vendors are going to have to see value in coding their solutions for the M1 before they will be available natively for the M1, much less the iPad. I think on my list of VST providers, a big chunk still don’t have an M1 native version.
Yes, exactly!

I know it‘s a pipe dream, but maybe in a few years that will actually be possible, considering how good Apple CPUs are getting.

90 tracks? Of what? Are you kidding? I saw that video lol.

Imagine at least 400 of those types of tracks+more plugins. Or look at Apple‘s presentation on stage of the Mac Pro, where they displayed how many tracks it can do for a composition used in a documentary. That‘s what I need lol.
You obviously have no idea what I‘m talking about, no offense.

Edit:
around 1h:29m ... that‘s the type of thing I do and the „power“ I need...
This is just a discussion about the forum topic and I responded to the silly post of saying the "M1 is too weak for power use in Logic" without any proof supporting that. You need to chill.

1) You watch movie credits?

2) That’s your worst criticism? That you could find one situation where it might bloom a tiny bit? When in many situations it will be superior to OLED? Like the fact it’s brighter, has better color reproduction, is more durable physically, and has no image burn in issues?
Movie credits aren’t the only place it will be noticeable. It’s just a worst case scenario, and the easiest scenario to describe.

The fact OLED has been out for years and this is one of the first miniLED displays most people have seen, and it was chosen over OLED, may mean OLED’s death is coming sooner than you think. Especially when it’s obvious that miniLED leads directly to microLED.
MiniLED does not directly lead to MicroLED.

You are right. It lacks a professional OS that runs the program I want it to run

The videos posted look gorgeous when watched on an OLED that’s calibrated. Also great black levels, seems to rival the best LEDs with single backlight easily. It looks like Apple really got a winner here.

If you take into account the power of the M1, this will easily be the best iPad since it’s original release. It’s a shame that Apple does not have enough volume for the smaller ones, though.

Will be interesting, if Vincent Teoh (HDTVtest) is going to get his hands on one and review it.

IMHO the iPad’s main issue now is the OS itself, which is to limited for this wonderful piece of hardware.
🤦‍♂️ You can’t judge contrast of a screen from a video of a screen. If the camera is good enough, you can get a sense of the blooming. There was blooming in the video, but it’s hard to know if it’s an artifact of the camera or the display.

So he receives his ipp early. And here I am, my order status actually went one step back.. in fact, I can’t even see my order status anymore since today. Typically my life..
My heart is with all the rich people who probably have to wait a few days longer for their new toy. Heartbreaking.

It seems that everyone who can’t justify purchasing the new iPad Pro is trying desperately to convince everyone else (and themselves) that it would be stupid for anyone to purchase it.

I don’t have an iPad, and since 12.9” is essential for my use case, I sprung for it this year. Other people have been waiting for a few years to upgrade their older iPads. Some people (graphic and video artists) benefit enough from the new screen to upgrade from even a recent iPad. And some people can simply afford to treat themselves to this upgrade as a luxury. Please allow us to enjoy our purchases, and don’t take cheap shots at the new iPad just because you aren’t getting one.

As far as the screen goes, sure. It’s not as good as oled. But it’s still leaps and bounds better than Apple’s typical displays. It shares the same technology as the Pro XDR display, which received very positive reviews despite its high price.
At last - someone talking sense. Well said buddy!
All this talk of HDR, OLED and the rest of it - nonsense!! We’re all only human with human eyes. It’s a bloody good clean sharp display.
Nuff said.

Bro, you jealous or what?

Its not how the modern system works.
These iPads are not made to live for one year. They are made to be used for many years. That’s why they “look” the same as last years model.
But the tech used is getting better and better. Insane desktop chip M1. Completely cutting edge technology screen. New front facing cam with totally new software for center stage. Blazing fast 5G.
You don’t upgrade every year. You update once every few years.
"Insane", "cutting edge", "totally new", "blazing fast"...

Never have I been so bluntly reminded of Apple's reliance on marketing hype.

I understand what they are doing, but it’s still frustrating for those of us that don’t want BIGGER. Apple alienates their customer base when they do this. They should hold off on the implementation until they can do it for both PRO devices.

- Can you run Command line tools on the iPad, NO!
- Can you do Machine-Learning using Rstudio or Matlab on the iPad, NO!
- Can you make extensive Python algorithms on the iPad, NO!
- Can you do basic statistic using SPSS or R on the iPad, NO!

I do not consider Excel as a good software for data analysis…

MATLAB for the win. But not on an iPad.

Which means I will be keeping mine for sure when I get. The only thing that frustrated me about the ipad was the lcd screen but I didnt want to switch back to android.
Agree, was really looking forward to a oled iPad. 🥺🤷‍♂️ Oh well looks like I’m saving $1600 this year 😂

now i've watched those videos on a bigger (professionally calibrated display) .... you can see the blooming lol. ran the same videos on my iPhone 12 Pro Max + LG CX (OLED) and no blooming.

i hope it's just the poor camera quality because people are gonna be pissed once they get their own iPads.
Mini led is trash, can‘t be compared to oled.
