They missed me this year by not including the mini LED on the 11". That was the dealbreaker for upgrading from the 2018 iPad Pro, especially since they will likely add it to next year's model. I hate when they do that. They're both PRO devices.
Sure, but Apple isn't inventing the global chip shortage just piss you off.

A real OS….

Sort of kidding but sort of not.

Seriously, what’s even the point of putting the M1 in an iPad? I’m assuming it’s mostly marketing…. Unless we see some sort of unbelievable iPadOS overhaul at WWDC.
There are people doing real “professional”work right now on iPads the move to M1 along with the inevitable big changes coming to iPadOS in June will allow it to run the same programs that are on Mac but with a touch centric interface. I mean this is the dream everyone’s been wanting but we’re all like Meh lol

iPad Pro 2021 upgrade is more interesting than 2020 version
- much bigger performance jump with M1 than A12X to Z
- Mini LED and hdr
- better front camera and center stage
- thunderbolt / faster storage

granted on the 11” it’s pretty incremental. And I fully agree on the watch series 6. Same with the new Apple TV Btw. Thing is at some point you really can’t make huge leaps forward anymore. I feel the iPhone is in that situation too.

Current “revolutions“ are more on the internals with the silicon switch than with the look and feel of the devices.
and on the software side (I hope)
Given that the CPU performance, both single-core and multi-core, of the new 11-inch is 50% better than my 2018 11-inch's, I'd say it's anything but incremental. Well, that and I managed to crack the screen on mine a couple of weeks before the announcement of the 2021 models.... two months after AppleCare+ ran out, of course.

And I'm very glad they didn't change the look, feel, or external dimensions (can still use the same folio cover and sleevecase).

XDR for iPad Pro is as important upgrade as M1 for Mac. Mac can run heavy tasks/several tasks at once, so the more power the better.
XDR on the other hand changes how you view any content on screen, which is the single most important aspect of any tablet (those Nits will prove useful under direct sunlight). So yeah, same tablet but you could say that about M1 Mac too, which can run the same tasks it is suited for but faster. And we'll lose all the enthusiasm!

Those nits only become apparent with hdr content. Brightness otherwise remains the same with regular content (600 nits).

Still don’t know whether I’ll upgrade from my 2020 12.9 ipad pro since there are so few apps available for music making on ipadOS.

And the m1 is way too weak for my projects in logic, so there’s that.

I’ll probably still buy the new 1tb soon, just hope Apple adds logic pro support.

Too bad for us that the owner of the mistakenly released iPad is not a MacRumors forum member. Probably good thing for the owner though since they would have half a million posts aimed at them by now.

Heh, end of day it's still an iPad. They posted the benchmark results (which we already knew from the leaks last week), they posted videos from the screen, and what else would there be to know? Maybe if they had an old Magic Keyboard they could test the fit, but other than that I can't think of much to find out about it.

If I got it early, don’t think I’d even connect my AppleID to it. :D

So he receives his ipp early. And here I am, my order status actually went one step back.. in fact, I can’t even see my order status anymore since today. Typically my life..
Life is waiting :)
On the subject, I am going for the 11" display, even though the mini LED looks so god damn tempting. But I do not believe that greater size should have exclusive greater features, so I will wait until eventually mini LED makes it to the 11" iPad Pro.

M1 too weak? M1 MacBooks can handle more tracks in Logic without overloading compared to most Intel MacBooks. So this doesn't make sense.

Logic Pro support all but confirmed for WWDC, along with Final Cut Pro and Xcode. I need Logic Pro for iPadOS as well but already went ahead and purchased the M1 iPad Pro (upgrading from my 2018 model).

Looks like a strong upgrade for the 2018 iPad. Looking forward to mine arriving on Friday. I am particularly interested in the improvement that Centerstage means for Facetime/Zoom...
But it’s not for a lot of people. It won’t do anything any faster unless you’re already pushing the 2018 hard, which I’m guessing most 2018 iPad Pro owners aren’t. It’s why I’m skipping this upgrade. It is no doubt a phenomenal iPad, but Apple made the 2018 iPad Pro so good and iPadOS is not even able to tap much in to what the A12X offers, forget the M1.

You should look into some of the iPad apps. While they won’t replace Logic, there’s a lot of power and intuitiveness there that could spark some ideas for your productions ;)

Few? Like DAWs or plugins? Because there’s a plethora of both. Like LOTS and lots.
Unfortunately there‘s literally nothing for the things I do, which is mostly using very expensive orchestral VSTs.

It does make sense lol, I use tons of extremely resource-heavy orchestral VSTs to make my music, and the M1 is waaaaaay to underpowered for what I need. Currently I‘m using a 16 core Mac Pro and that‘s fine, but going for the 24/28 cores would probably be better. I also use a 10 core iMac Pro, which is ok, but not quite there.

I hope that the M2 or the „pro“ version of it or whatever will be good enough for my needs.

Most people can use logic with an m1 or weaker intel macs, but there are people like me that literally need a ton of horsepower for the things they do.

Interesting because MaxTech on YouTube showed over 90 tracks running on the M1 Air flawlessly and the latest Intel Air couldn't make it past 50 tracks. Have you actually tried it or are you deciding (or hoping to be right 🙄) that the M1 can't handle your Logic projects?

90 tracks? Of what? Are you kidding? I saw that video lol.

Imagine at least 400 of those types of tracks+more plugins. Or look at Apple‘s presentation on stage of the Mac Pro, where they displayed how many tracks it can do for a composition used in a documentary. That‘s what I need lol.
You obviously have no idea what I‘m talking about, no offense.

Edit:
around 1h:29m ... that‘s the type of thing I do and the „power“ I need...

Oh, that makes sense :) It’s not so much “so few apps available for music making on ipadOS.”, because there are a LOT of those. But, more “so few apps available for those making music mostly using very expensive orchestral VSTs”.

ESPECIALLY when you consider that those vendors are going to have to see value in coding their solutions for the M1 before they will be available natively for the M1, much less the iPad. I think on my list of VST providers, a big chunk still don’t have an M1 native version.
