Honestly believe this is more due to the current state of the supply chain for technology related items. The tech industry as a whole are still kind of stalled from covid and the current world events. Sadly, since parts are not soley made in any one country or place this will likely continue to be a huge bottleneck for on going large advancements.

This is one of the smallest upgrades I can remember for an iPad.
But this is a good thing, right?
I was considering updating from my 2020 iPad Pro, but I’ll wait and see what Stage Manager feels like since that is a feature I can see myself using a lot.

Spec wise there is no real reason to update – and that is a good thing in my opinion.
None of the iPads of the last three years will magically stop working. They’ll be as great (or not) as before. I’m happy to put off a 1.200 € investment for another year. During these times more than ever.

Best regards
VSG

And what would make you happy? Right now there is nothing to take advantage of that M1 chip let alone M2 chip.
Until Apple comes up with a software solution than we will be getting insane amount of power that will be untapped.

Yeah, because the M1 and blazing fast SSD in the old iPad Pro were too slow to do ProRes, LOL.

I’m really surprised they didn’t go landscape FaceTime on the Pro. Not that I’m buying one of these anyway. iPad just isn’t worth upgrading very often anymore. I might consider it in 2025.

iPhone’s can do ProRes too right, while the M1 12.9 iPad Pro is more powerful?

Just typical Apple.

Microsoft just did this with the Surface line—in fact, one product already designated “2” couldn’t even earn a “3”. Maybe we’re heading for a few years/decade of iterative updates until they can turn people into cyborgs (I-borgs).

Calm down, Freida. I wasn't trying to attack Apple. I'm an Apple apologist if you ask most people here. Just was stating my observation.

2018: big redesign, Face ID, etc
2020: A12X to A12Z, camera/LiDAR change
2021: M1 and miniLED (for the 12.9")
2022: M2

2021 was a nice jump with M1, but otherwise it hasn't felt like much change in this product - though this design of iPad Pro since 2018 has been so nice as it is. I wonder what happened to those rumours of MagSafe, new smart connector, etc.

Also, wonder if we're in for another 18 month wait until the next update?

I wouldn't mind if you were. I was just stating that right now there isn't much we can get.
However, I'm sorry - I misunderstood the tone so my bad.

If the M2 gives it better battery life over the M1, I may upgrade. Otherwise happy with my M1 Pro except for the battery.

How bad is the M1 battery life? I didn’t know that was an issue.

From engineering standpoint, M2 should be worse in this regard. Higher clock, more transistors, yet same 5nm lithography.

Yet another unimaginative upgrade. Apple is getting very boring, I wonder how long they can get away with it.
At least 25 more years. People were saying the same thing back when Intel was eating the PowerPC's for lunch. Apple would ever so slightly bump up the speed and Intel would just crush it with an update. Of course counting Apple out is an American pastime.
