My 2021 iPad Pro is the most futureproofed device I think I’ve ever owned. It’s never challenged in terms of performance; it’s the highest quality screen I’ve used; speakers are superb for their size; its camera is adequate and so is its storage.

I love to upgrade my tech but I feel like I will own this iPad for a very long time yet. It’s still everything I need from a tablet and more. That’s kudos to Apple, and I don’t really think I could criticise them for such an iterative design here.

Cannot believe that they put the camera in landscape on the entry-level iPad but left it in portrait on the new iPad Pro...ridiculous.
I all in for the landscape cam on the iPad. But the pro is probably another type of customer. It won’t be the « family ipad » nor the iPad for the student so maybe (and I say maybe, I’m not sure), it could make sense on the pro as is.

I'm a big believer in upgrading often. You tend to get a good trade in value etc. But this upgrade is so minimal it isn't even funny. Same display and sound, same design. I never use the Pencil and rarely use the cameras. I had thought about getting the cellular version but for $200 more and then $20 a month to my carrier in perpetuity, I can't see that being worth it. So even though I was poised to order today, I can't see any way to justify it. Very happy with my 2021 Pro 12.9.

Agreed. Except for the horrendous battery life.

Honestly believe this is more due to the current state of the supply chain for technology related items. The tech industry as a whole are still kind of stalled from covid and the current world events. Sadly, since parts are not soley made in any one country or place this will likely continue to be a huge bottleneck for on going large advancements.
1000%
But, many still think Apple is immune to any of these issues.
Tim Cook maybe the logistics czar. And I'm sure he is making many minor miracles with what is available.
They will not get the credit that is deserved.

Complete waste of an update.
Fully agree, but watch them restrict pro apps and major features to only the most recent iPad in the next iPadOS update…then again when was the last time that they added an actually useful and “pro” feature to iPadOS (that joke of a windowing system by the name of Stage Manager doesn’t actually do anything remotely useful)

I preordered as soon as the store came back online, to get one on launch day. Did this knowing I could cancel if I didn't like the specs. Really expected a relocated camera, now I'm on the fence.
Me too.. and cancelled soon after. Simply not worth it if you already had the M1. It’s a meagre update ..

How bad is the M1 battery life? I didn’t know that was an issue.

From engineering standpoint, M2 should be worse in this regard. Higher clock, more transistors, yet same 5nm lithography.
M2 has better efficiency cores. M2 MacBook pros are getting an extra 2 hours in tests over the M1. Currently on the go with max brightness ( I’m outside in direct sunlight), I’m getting 6 hours or less. I know I could do better by dimming the screen, but I like to actually see things. If the M2 could give me an extra hour or two, it’s worth it to me.

These ridiculous "nothing" updates have got to impact sales for them at some point, no?

I mean the entirety of what they released today was an amazing nothing burger

I'm a habitual upgrader, to a fault. But I can safely draw the line here. My 12.9" M1 w/5G and Magic Keyboard will continue to be absolutely fine.

Although I would have been tempted with a re-located camera....
