Let's dial it back for a second: what value would an M3 bring to the iPad?

What do you do on a damn tablet to require more power than an M1 or A12X/Z?
M1 is already overkill, M2 even more so. iPadOS is holding the processors back. I really believe that iPads should have a macOS Pro mode... the ability to run macOS or a similar window manager, with pro apps like Final Cut, Xcode, Visual Studio, Serato etc....it doesn't need to be exactly macOS, but something very similar with a touch UI if the user needs it, and very smooth window management, and binary compatibility with the Pro macOS Apps. iPadOS on the M1/M2 is like having a Ferarri, but it's stuck in a Garage or in bumper to bumper traffic.

Apple needs to unleash the M1/M2 beast inside.

I'm gonna get the 11 ipad pro, my first time getting one. I have a question for those who have one already. Is the 1tb and 16gig of RAM worth it if you are an artist? or is it overkill and will 512 and 8 RAM be better?

Hence it was a "press release" introduction. It's similar to the 2019 "update" to the iPad Pro that just added the LiDAR camera and extra GPU core. Perhaps Apple has bigger plans in store for the M3 iPad. That should be a bigger CPU/GPU upgrade from the M2 than the latter was to the M1.
We don't need a new CPU for the iPad, we need a new OS.

What a snooze fest of an update.

But honestly, what can they add to the iPad Pro at this point since the limits are all due to iPad OS.
Realistically? Nothing. This line has been gimped by the OS more than anything since the 2018 refresh. My M1 is fine for what it is but if Apple would just allow a full version of MacOS to be loaded onto it I would probably ditch my Macbook and have a true all one device that did everything I needed.
I assume the above fact is why Apple doesn't do that, which is extremely aggravating.

This is a pretty confounding update. It would have still been boring if the regular iPad hadn’t gotten the landscape camera, but now this generation of Pros looks like a must-skip.

This is not meant for owners of the previous generation iPads. It never was. iPad upgrade cycle is usually 3-5 years.

What is the point of putting M2 in an iPad Pro when iPadOS can't even fully utilise M1 chip? Come on Apple!

The price of the iPad Pro has been pushed above €2000 (including keyboard) in Europe, surpassing the Macbook Air with a slightly better configuration. It is truly expensive…

I'm not a professional artist but I do digital art with mine and I only have 2gb RAM and I don't have any issues, so I'd go with the 512/8gb.
