Guess I'm keeping my 2021. I don't want to feel the same disappointment as when I upgraded my iPhone 12 pro max to a 14 pro max and found that most of the cool features are already built into the iOS upgrades.

This is a pretty confounding update. It would have still been boring if the regular iPad hadn’t gotten the landscape camera, but now this generation of Pros looks like a must-skip.
It's a spec bump to keep the Pros current, just like the 2019 "upgrade" that added a LiDAR camera and extra GPU core.

Let's dial it back for a second: what value would an M3 bring to the iPad?

What do you do on a damn tablet to require more power than an M1 or A12X/Z?
If the M3 is 3nm it will have improved battery life.

2018 - Bigger upgrade
2020 - Smaller upgrade
2021 - Bigger upgrade
2022 - Smaller upgrade

The next upgrade will be more significant

Hence it was a "press release" introduction. It's similar to the 2019 "update" to the iPad Pro that just added the LiDAR camera and extra GPU core. Perhaps Apple has bigger plans in store for the M3 iPad. That should be a bigger CPU/GPU upgrade from the M2 than the latter was to the M1.
Apple smart enough to not spend 10 cents on video production for this release and have nothing much to say in front of camera anyway.

Does anyone know if the new iPad pros work with the 2018 Magic Keyboard still?
Yes. The M2 11" is the 4th Gen.

Why would anyone struggle with an iPad for video editing when you can do the same MUCH more efficiently, with MUCH better software, with MUCH better file etc. support, with MUCH better external screen support on a Mac, for around the same price if you also add Apple's keyboard and - to have 16GB of RAM - go for at least the 1TB model?! And the Mac is significantly less locked down.
Yeah, basically any mac or pc is going to be a better experience and yield a better result than trying to edit on an ipad.

Is there a place on the apple store website to buy the 5th generation Pros at a discount? I'm on a 3rd gen Pro and was waiting on this 6th gen for new screens but they're the same ast 5th gen, so I might as well get that.... but it seems to have been stricken from the record.

Apple seldom has refurbished versions of the current iPad, but now that the M2 is out I expect there will be refurbished M1s.

ProRes was disabled on 128GB iPhone models. So it is possible on iPad models? This is f hilarious. 16GB on the most expensive models only? What. A. Ripoff.
If one could record 4K ProRes on a 128GB iPhone, they’d get somewhere around 17 minutes. That’s not a very useful use case. BUT, I’m sure that there’s plenty of folks out there ready to go on an all out rant over this feature that they’re not going to use on this device they’re not going to buy.

I don’t think so. We’ve had an iPad Pro every year since
We got the redesign to the flat edge in Oct 2018. 1.5 years later they refreshed in Mar 2020 (nothing in 2019). Then a year later they moved to the M chips in April 2021. I suspect that was a quicker refresh because they felt the M chips were going to be a bigger draw.

It's now been another 1.5 years. And since this is a fall release, we likely won't see another update until spring 2024. That one will almost definitely be a redesign. So, nothing next year at all for the pro models.

Who in the hell is recording video with their iPad?
Those who use it to record video being captured on a digital camera. Most recent cameras can send raw sensor data via their HDMI port. A HDMI to Thunderbolt cable would result in a very nice video capture system. Better than what the cameras can do themselves.

We will have to see what the improvement is in practice. My 2021 iPad Pro has great battery life. So I doubt it will improve enough to pull me up.

Even performance improvements will be quite limited to actualize. The majority of apps are still coded for the cheaper models and todays base iPad is still weak. And will act as an anchor.
