And no, I didn't misinterpret this statement as even MacRumors interpreted ( https://www.macrumors.com/2021/09/15/tim-cook-apple-event-interview/ ) this statement as "In the nearly 15 minutes' long interview, Cook describes the new camera features of the ‌iPhone 13‌, specifically Cinematic Mode, as a "mindblowing" addition to the iPhone that places it on par with professional high-end video equipment."

Fair enough. That’s a bit too bold of a bold claim.
Again, no "almost" in the MacRumors interpretation either. They did interpret Cook's words as above: iPhone 13 Pros ' Cinematic Mode is the same, shallow DoF quality-wise, than high-end cameras.
I guess I don’t see where you keep getting the DoF part from.

I also hope you enjoy hate-watching her videos. 🤷🏻‍♂️

And you can cook a meal at home for 10% of what it would cost in a restaurant. Not exactly a new concept.

Ah, the myth that the Mac is so much the better "experience" (whateve that means). Both machines accomplish the same tasks, with each having their better and worse attributes.

Look, after seeing (suffering thru...) the Cook "interview" (link above), I just can't bother with her "reviews" as I know she's biased. Why would I waste time on her? And exactly the same stands for Rene Ritchie, who is a male. Both are biased and I write in exactly the same way on both of them. Just check out my posts in the last few days, I did mention Rene Ritchie in exactly the same context and words as iJustine.

Again, it has nothing to do with her gender.
An "interview" isn't a review. And the way that MKBHD interviewed Bill Gates or Musk wasn't exactly hard hitting either. But you don't see him being "soft" with two people who are objectively far worse humans than Tim Cook and then having people clamoring they can't trust his reviews.

Shallow DoF is what the Cinematic Mode is all about. (With additional rack focus (simulation) support, of course; but the basic technology making the latter possible is shallow DoF. No shallow DoF = no focus pulling.)

It is.

I guess I don't really follow. She could've said "well, it's a bit like a camera with such a lens, but it isn't quite the same thing", and Cook would've nodded and chuckled, and that would've been that. Is there really a scenario where the interview would've had a more interesting outcome?

Like, do people think catching an Apple PR person in a gotcha moment accomplishes something? "A-ha! I proved that a device that's 7 millimeters thick doesn't have the same optics as a device where the lens alone is multiple centimeters! GOT EM!!" Uh, OK, congrats?

With those benchmarks, why would anyone buy the 13" MacBook Pro?
At this point, about the only customer for that one is someone that simply doesn't want the M1 Pro and up, but absolutely 100% needs a fan. And unfortunately, if that's you (and I could fall into that category), you have to get a years old design with much worse camera, speakers, and mic.

I think Apple has a replacement for this machine in the works, and I bet it's the 15" Air that's rumored. I personally believe it will be a "MacBook Studio", and be M2 with a fan and a 15ish" display. No MiniLED or ProMotion. Larger Air display.

IT Gets very HOT... And it Throttles.

I try to help someone out and tell them to buy a laptop Fan

And I get Banned from MacRumors for 2 days. for trying to warn a new buyer and help them out.

Thank you very much STAFF at MacRumors. You are SO kind.

Sure . Buy an M2 MBA when it gets HOT. Throttles and actually performs worse than an M1 MBA.

It was an example of
1, Cook's exaggerating (or plain lying)
2, iJustine's NOT understanding camera tech OR being a shill

And, again, MacRumors also interpreted Cook's statement as "on par" (see above). Without the word "almost". It just couldn't be interpreted otherwise.

Just going to address
"Ugly huge notch"

Really, you don't even notice it after about five minutes. It just becomes a part of the menu bar.

Agree and that argument is old and from people that just need to find a reason to complain

Apple had a decision to make.. border across the top to hide the camera notch, or add a notch and give us some additional screen space, they chose the latter.

Had they not.... we would hear bellyaching "I would have been fine with the camera in the middle and give is that extra little screen space to tuck menu bar items"

Can't please those that choose to whine

You can't be serious? I mean MR banning you for stating the fact that everybody assumes as it's plain physics?

The thing is, that's a very slim segment. That 13-inch Pro starts at a 256 Gig SSD and 8 Gigs of RAM. If you have pro workflows where a fan is beneficial, you want to upgrade both of those. So now you're already at $1699, just $300 away from the 14-inch.

And those $300 give you a CPU that'll scale better in pro workflows, a stronger GPU, more memory bandwidth, a much better display (XDR, mini-LED, 120 Hz, …), a better sound system, a better camera, MagSafe, HDMI, an SD card slot, and a more modern chassis. It's a way better system.

For Apple, profit is king over market share. If they cared about market share, they'd lower prices to compete. They don't.

Yes and no. Trust me any company cares about market share, especially in tech. The more the better it's a no brainer. It equals more sales. Also usually equals more people subscribing to their services which they make profit off of. But your right that they probably value profit margin more so.

With Tim cook at the helm I'm sure they've modeled out the total profit they would make at different retails and total profit based on unit sales increasing but at a lower markup would be. There are also still supply constraints currently so if you can't make enough to meet demand at a lower price point it wouldn't make sense to lower it.

Oh, I agree 100%. I think the current 13.3" MBP with M2 is the worst Mac buying decision that someone could make right now. Literally the only reason that I can think of to get it is the reason I listed. And I agree, that's hardly anyone. AND, for those that do meet that description, grab that sale price on Amazon on the 14" MBP and for $100-200 more than you'd pay for 13.3" MBP, you get 14" and all the benefits you described.

How cute. Paid shills getting pre-release products for pimping Apple gear. Rather surprised the trio of Apple Apologists - Rene Ritchie, Jim Dalrymple & John Gruber aren't among the faithful posting videos today

Yep.

Or, alternatively, double-check if maybe the M2 Air is plenty good for your needs.
