I think I may just wait until there are refurbs. Might be easier and a hair cheaper.
Well if you buy now with $150 Back to School promo + education discount then you would get almost same discount as refurbs. Just don’t go for fully speced out configs!

No one was “tricked”. That implies some intentional deceit and I’m not aware of any stores doing this. People watching YouTube videos or looking at posts here and taking whatever the person says as fact was their fault.

8 GB is plenty for many users. If you go into Walmart here in the USA most of the Windows laptops they sell have 4 GB of RAM. I know that shocking to people in the forms because we’re a bunch of tech nerds but normal people aren’t using their laptops the same way. They’re looking for a computer to go play music, pay their bills, go on Facebook, and go to “a certain type of website” that entertains them. That’s it! They’re not doing video editing or running multiple VMs or anything like that.
Chromebooks /= Windows Laptops, but cute try I guess?

Weird. I ordered 8/10/24 GB/1 TB Midnight at 8:03 AM EDT and got a date range of Aug 2-Aug 9. the exact same configuration now is Aug 1-Aug 8. Not sure what that means. Does it mean I get mine earlier too?

That is strange. One I ordered at 5AM PT is arriving after one I can order now. I think this is because local stores will have it in stock and that stock can be used for deliveries.

Don’t be fooled on the dates folks. It’s not demand that’s pushing them back, it’s BTO’s or low online inventory. I can almost guarantee there will be plenty base models in stock at Apple stores and then plenty of threads asking if people should cancel their online order to get one in store will pop up. It’s always like this.

Yep, usually, you can get a online-backordered device Mac, iPad, whatever) in store within a week. Keep checking inventory every day.

That other guy doesn't know what he's talking about. 4GB even on a lite Chromebook isn't sufficient for more complex web sites. Recommend 8GB on Chromebook or Linux. On MacOS that uses more memory you need >8GB and the next step up is 16GB since there's no 12GB option.

You must've not been here on M1 launch where fanboys and/or Apple employees were spreading misinformation about 8GB = 16GB. In comparison, looks like most everyone are informed or learned their lesson and getting 16GB or more for M2 launch.
And not just those 2 groups; lots of techtubers were saying the same. I should’ve been smarter when I made my purchase. Then again, I had no intention of making a Mac my main computer at the time I made the purchase (hence my 8GB/256 MBP).

Is 8gb enough? Well they sell it that way. Either it's a ripoff or its enough.

Your move.

I really want one of these to replace my 12" macbook. Was still kind of hoping they would have released a smaller laptop, but the form factor of this MBA is fairly decent.
Same boat as you. Sad they didn’t go smaller. It is what it is I guess. Torn between silver and midnight. Hard to tell without seeing.

Right. Buy one these now, and wait for Apple to come to their senses and come up with a 12".

People want them. They do.

From the videos i've seen the Midnight color looks gorgeous. It really comes down to, can you deal with fingerprints and smudges you will have to constantly clean if that were to bother you because it was mentioned in several videos i've seen, including the video made by Marques. The smudges are pretty visible even in the video.

I'm not sure if your reply, as well as your pre-edited reply (which was sent to me) was in response to my post, but eh?

What concerns me is the way Apple has tried to supplant sufficient RAM with swap files, dumping the load onto the SSD. People think this is ok because hey they’re both solid state memory chips right? Except one is designed for that sort of read/write and one isn’t. Treating the SSD like an extension of RAM is like getting a flat and just leaving the undersized spare on because hey a tire is a tire right?
While I don’t think anything more than 512GB of storage is necessary for everyone, if folks plan on holding onto their MBA’s for more than a couple years, spend the extra money for 16GB of RAM. 8GB has been the minimum requirement for a couple years now. At these prices, why start with the minimum?

I expected this to sell out faster. I'm guessing the price hike turned a lot of people off in this economy.

It's even more crazy in EU where M2 is €500 more than the M1.
I wonder if some of the ‘features’ of the Pro hurt it a little. If there was no news on the 256 SSD or overheating, blind pre-orders would have amassed unabated, but now peeps are probably proceeding with more caution and waiting to see which configs fair best in reviews.

Sigh I over slept. Hopefully I’m able to pickup a midnight 512gb 8gb ram stock at the Apple store nextweek Friday.

I find it funny how Apple is “deliberately restricting supply” when their products sell out too quickly, but when they have stock, it’s because they have lost their way and nobody wants them.

I think what's being missed is that there are those of us who might've ordered on-the-spot, but are holding based on the M2 MBP stupidity.

I want to know what I'm getting first. I can wait a month or three.

I wanted midnight but after seeing those USB-C ports already scratched I decided to go with silver. Also I’m not sure if midnight has the same issue as space gray of the discolouration in the palm rests.

Yeah, seven hours after launch and this hot seller has generated a massive 89 posts (by fewer than 89 people). Buyers around the planet going crazy to get hold of a meh MBA. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

And you can still go online and order the base model for delivery next Friday. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️

Sheesh. 💩
For a Mac this is really something. But they ****ed up with the single chip thing. This was going to be my very first Mac but I can’t buy it until we get some reviews

I'm looking to finally get back into the Mac ecosystem with one of these new M series laptops. This one looks sleek and powerful enough. But I really want actual speakers (assuming these are under the keyboard) and that super nice Mini LED screen on the M1 Pros. Ugh
