Broken again huh?

I posted this three years ago https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/23124721/

I migrated away from Gmail to iCloud a few years ago. Gmail often has problems with Apple software and I got sick of it. It's because Gmail handles mail in their own way, not using the standards everybody else does. Having mail tags instead of folders for example is a smarter way to do things but it's a recipe for incompatibility problems as you have discovered.

Migrating to iCloud saves you the bother and releases you from Alphabet's nosey habits. An effort initially, sure, but you only have to do it once.

I have worked out a fix for this. If anyone wants it, let me know and I'll try typing it up. It's a little technical and requires the use of the Charles web debugging proxy.
(The problem is that the Google authentication is not returning your email address to the system and the workaround is to intercept the api request and add in the email address manually)

I have a fix! Use iCloud mail :)
You may be able to do that for your personal mail (and I do), but I have 3 Gmail accounts for work that I need to use so this is super inconvenient. Yes, you can still get to Gmail through the web but juggling logins for 3 accounts there is a PITA, and Gmail is a lot slower on the web as well. It was nice to have everything in 1 place (Mail), hopefully Apple and/or Google fix this quickly.

I first noticed the issue on February 4th. It got slightly better with later betas.

I can verify the same. During beta testing of 10.14.4 I ran into the inability to log into Gmail. To solve it I first Quit Mail. I went to System Preferences/Internet Accounts, highlighted my Gmail account and deleted it with the minus (-) sign. I then Quit System Preferences. I then went back to the same setting again and added my Gmail account with address and password. I then rebooted for good measure. The problem didn't return. I recall that fiddling around in the Mail app itself solved nothing. Internet Accounts is what got messed up.

There have been some quirky little behind-the-scenes changes to macOS in 10.14.4 that have broken various things. I'm currently trying to sort out with a developer what Apple did to break the Command-C command when using ANY version of CopyPaste Pro. There are several little quirks in the latest version of Safari, evident if you visit YouTube and attempt to use the video playing interface. My experience with Apple is that this small stuff is of no interest to them, entirely fitting with my theory that they've failed to scale the Mac computer side of the company as the company has grown. I can toss out a dozen further examples. I find it all very annoying and wish they'd pay close attention to Mac again and return to focusing on the customer rather than whatever their distraction-of-the-day may be. :-(

We use GSuite on the company and a this sucks
As a GSuite admin/user as well, I usually just rely on a separate Chrome browser for all the GSuite related needs. It’s too much headache trying to integrate it with a separate ecosystem, be it Apple or Windows (it’s possible, but then things like this bug can be a huge annoyance). I usually just pretend I have a “Chromebook” instead.

Mac Mail doesn’t work for me in general. And what I mean is, organization. If it had a way to separate emails by day, that’d be all I need to use it 100%.

It’s not working for me either with my work email account. How very annoying, why did they release the full version if it didn’t work in the beta versions?
I spoke to them yesterday and was told that they are working on a fix, but no indication how long it will take.
Like many others I’m super disappointed by Apple and am using a 3rd party app for now to communicate with my clients.

It is not a bug. Simply re enter your Google credentials... if you have 2 steeps authentication open Google in your iOS device and authorize, at end Mail works fine with gMail.
Doesn’t work for me, normal everyday Gmail account yes, Gmail Suite, which is relevant for my work, not.... caught in the endless authentication loop....

This issue seems to be related only to GSuite accounts, not regular Google Gmail accounts.
And the problem happens on both macOS 10.14.2 and iOS 12.4.

I have tried on 3 iOS devices, 1 High Sierra iMac, 1 MacBook and 1 newly installed MacBook Air, and it all points at GSuite and the latest MacOS and iOS updates.

I discovered this issue after I upgraded every device I have. As a last resort, I downloaded and configured Spark to be able to access the account in question.

I’d suggest using MailPlane (https://mailplaneapp.com/) until this is fixed. Truly an awesome app. If you’re not sure it’s worth the money, it comes with a 15 day trial (and I’d bet Apple or Google has a solution ready within 15 days anyway).

Can I make a suggestion here? Just forward *all* of your email from Gmail into iCloud. Then you get the best of both worlds. Anything that's automatic, give them Gmail. Anyone personal and trustable, give them iCloud. It works well.

it is major issue u had it on the beta and not the final using mail my 2 google emails dont work

I wish they would spin it off into its own company so that it can be important to someone’s bottom line again.

Here's a fix for GMail that worked for me. I haven't tested Calendar, though that may work in the same vein.
- Go to https://myaccount.google.com/
- Go to Security in the left navbar
- Under the header "Signing in to Google", click on "App Passwords" and add an app password there. Leave the page open.

Open System Preferences.
- Go to Internet Accounts
- Delete the non-working internet account
- Add a new account with the Plus button, and select "Add Other Account...". This entry expands. Select "Mail Account".
- Copy the password from the new app password that you just created in the browser, paste it here in the appropriate field
- Where appropriate, fill in the servers imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com
- Click OK and watch Mail.app sync

I wish they would spin it off into its own company so that it can be important to someone’s bottom line again.
There’s way too much feature overlap, a common code base and interoperability requirements between iOS and macOS to spin out macOS. Meanwhile the hardware will be transitioning to Apple’s own ARM processors, and Macs have TouchID (soon FaceID) and other common components using Apple’s silicon; I can’t see why they wouldn’t want to keep the Macs in-house.

In any case, I don’t think moving Mac out of Apple would solve many problems, and it would cause a whole new set of issues by needing to work now with Apple externally instead of from within. I think overall it would be very detrimental to the Mac business.

Seems like few people know this, Google is the problem here with their non standard protocols.
If people have so much trouble with they should get rid of it.

Don't get it that businesses use Gmail.
