Do you have a link to what you purchased? ThanksFinally I have solved my problem. As the apple engineers told me, I bought a "Shielded" USB 3 extender cable and connected the Hub to it. I placed the hub five feet away from the computer. Everything works correctly.
Let's see if everything continues to work properly.
This is the cable that I bought:Do you have a link to what you purchased? Thanks
Where does it say that?It seems like most of the StarTech USB3 "extender" cables are shielded similarly: https://www.startech.com/Cables/USB-3.0/USB-3-0-Extension-Cables/
E.g. on https://www.startech.com/Cables/USB...nsion-Cable-A-to-A-Male-to-Female~USB3SEXT6BK the description explicitly mentions the same shielding as the one linked above:Where does it say that?
Our USB 3.0 extension cables features high quality Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) construction, helping to prevent electromagnetic interference and ensuring reliable data communication.
(from their support document: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT201542) meansUse a high-quality, shielded USB cable
Right and it would be referring to ensuring that you are using an Apple Branded cable for your model or one compatible with the model from the MFG of the 3rd party item.
Coil whine update: It still does when connecting an independently fed USB device but it sounds quieter than before so it's either just this particular model or they did some slight sound insulation, although that means they did not actually solve the problem and probably never will. I guess I'll just have to learn to live with that.
Finally got around to trying this.have a look here:
https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...uetooth-dongle-instead-of-built-in-controller
Load bluetooth explorer, from the tools menu select controller selector, select the adapter and activate.
reboot of the mini automatically reverts back to the internal BT
sudo nvram bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehavior=always
Ah, thanks for that, I'll give it a shot, though I'm still not sure why my Sony wh1000xm3 won't pair (they don't even show up in the BT preferences)The linked question contains an answer that specifically mentions how to solve this (https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/265351/92039)
Code:sudo nvram bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehavior=always
They are paired with the internal BT and with my iPhone. According to their instructions, they can be paired with up to 8 devices, so they should be able to pair with the adapter without any issue.Do they show up as an option to pair with other devices? Maybe they're paired to the built in BT radio and need to be 'reset' so they can be re-paired?
