Well as of now yes. It's a TV and soon to be audio standard. At least in home theater audio it will be. But why not a computer standard as well? HDMI is capable of so much and it's just inching it's way into actual use in the computer market. Almost every laptop $500 and up have an HDMI port on them. Apple could have easily put two of them where the full sized DVI was on the previous Mini. It could have been added to their whole line. The conspiracy would be that Apple wants a few more bucks for adapter cables and special displays. It would have been the smarter choice to go with HDMI.
More specifically: Isn't HDMI a TV standard that is constrained to 1920x1080 max resolution and one screen?

As it sits today, the 30" ACD already can best that at 2560x1600. Why pick the TV standard that won't be up to the monitors of tomorrow? Aren't people frustrated enough with crap like dual-link DVI? Why perpetuate that into the future?

Poor you. Apparently not.

Least of all Apple stockholders.

:apple:

Yea im sure the shareholders are so bummed that so far apple has remained recession resistant while others have floundered. It sucks so much for them.

What? Have you looked at their stocks?

They have been consistant since that fiasco set off by a crappy analyst months ago, hence the "readjustment" of the price.

Edit: "just wait"

You and I know for a fact that stocks for apple dip for a day or two after EVERY announcement they make, even the iphone.

and after So long since the last update if the configs are true they better lower the price because whats inside aint that special.

its a spec bump, whos fault is it that you expected a revolution?

Then the spec bumb for the mini is lazy especially as apple once had sole ownership of the minipc market, people would see my Mac Mini and be amazed at it now dell and every other sucker are making one.

I'm not talking about a day or two. I'm talking about after a month or two of abysmal sales of iMacs with glossy screens and no Blu-ray capability that few pros will even go near.

Here's the apparent spec-list:

IMAC 20"/2.66/2GB/320/SD/MSE/KB
IMAC 24"/2.66/4GB/640/SD/MSE/KB
IMAC 24"/2.93/4GB/640/256/SD/MSE/KB
IMAC 24"/3.06/4GB/1TB/512/SD/MSE/KB

MAC MINI 2.0/1X1G/120/SD/AP/BT
MAC MINI 2.0/2X1G/320/SD/AP/BT

Depending on the price, I'll either get the high-end Mini, or get the low-end and do a RAM/HDD upgrade later :)

I'll agree with you that dual-link DVI is a load of hogwash and DisplayPort is better than that. What I don't get is why some sort of HDMI 2.0 solution couldn't have been done. Basically take the model that USB has set and develop that for audio/video. When USB 3.0 comes out later this year, it will be capable of whatever speed 3.0 is and backward compatible with usb 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 devices.

Why not develop an HDMI 2.0 spec that can do what Apple needs with it? I'm no expert on cables and such, but I just don't understand why HDMI came along and simplified home theaters (well, re-simplified) and then Apple has to break off on a tangent. Yeah, yeah, DisplayPort is some standard. I hadn't heard of it before the new MacBooks and have been looking at A LOT of monitors. Some of the more expensive ones had...HDMI. If space is an issue, develop mini-HDMI. I just don't understand the need to stop the whole home theater-computer convergence when Apple has shown it wants to do that with the Apple TV.

Same processor for both Mac mini models? Not that smart marketing strategy!

High end mini? they are both using the same CPU, very poor apple, very very poor.

there was a rumor awhile back about a 27inch imac

if tomorrow we get 1 x 20 and 3 x 24 then this rumor will be true :D

As long as DisplayPort (and mini-DisplayPort) is backward compatible to HDMI it won't be a huge problem. I just wonder whether it'll be possible to get the digital audio from mini-DP to HDMI with a simple converter cable.

does DisplayPort pass the audio:confused:

According to that list, the base spec of the 20inch comes with a 2.66Ghz processor that eliminates the 2.4Ghz processor

The 24 inch base processor would eliminate the current 2.8 something ghz processor

Speed bump looks like

If this are the specifications for an imac upgrade that took 1 year to be released, I say . Come on Apple this is the way to loose the desktop computer market. I'm serious thinking not to buy Apple desktop again.

The only way forward I see is if apple have seen the economy and slashed prices say 100 dollars of each model, would be better then nothing.

As has probably been said a millions times, dual-core wouldn't cut it.

My self-build Windows machine is quad-core. I built it for ripping DVD's to hard drive and converting EyeTV recordings (both to H264). If I were to purchase an iMac, I need it to be faster at that task.
