As third possibility, a close friend of mine once bought a Talking Heads CD with all the packaging and disc label showing that it was what it said it was, the actual content was some country western singer, so the Apple CD press may have simply accidently jumped the gun on their labeling, and this media might really be 10.5 in disguise.

The other two pictures show the software loaded (with SL graphics and words). Though of course this could just be dev release screen shots.

It is indeed concerning that SL might not be as good as it could be if it ends up being released early, so I guess my predetermined strategy of installing first on the iMac will pay off. That way I can see how it functions and be sure that it won't harm my MacBook, which has considerably more valuable stuff on it.

I'm in the US and as of 8pm tonight, my status still says:

CS3 works fine for me so far.

Oh, really? Some websites are reporting that CS3 isn't functioning (or very buggy). If this is true, then I'll be very happy :D. I didn't want to have to upgrade to CS4 just for compatibility with Snow Leopard.

Wow, I potentially lose CS3, Vuze, Max, Cyberduck with 10.6.

I might keep my iMac on 10.5 for a while while I play with SL on my new MBP...

::sigh:: I am VERY VERY excited about Snow Leopard, but loss of CS3, Cyberduck, along with a few other apps on the list combined are a pretty big show stopper.

Any references? I'm really concerned if CS3 isn't compatible.....can't imagine why it wouldn't be?!?

Well done Apple, for releasing a broken OS. If it's the last build us devs got our hands on then it's broken.

iTunes and Quicktime STILL Crash like buggery.
and there are some other bugs here and there.

No way is it final. This, in my opinion, is a rushed release. bad on Apple.

Prove they just don't give a **** like they use too.
The Magic of Apple has gone!!

Well if they believe they're minor problems, or could be easily fixed, they probably just want to start selling Snow Leopard on August 28th, and immediately release an update or something.
There is probably more than just 'releasing the product when everything is just right', (even though that would be nice) because i doubt anybody here could wait until December (or 2010) for the release. And maybe there are certain deadlines to keep, because they have other projects waiting.

CS3 works fine on SL. Have been using it for about a week now.

Cyberduck is broken yes.

I am definitely too, but multiple reports from this site and other websites seem to report that CS3 is working.

It could depend on multiple factors... the kernel architecture, who knows what else. But for now, I'm all for saying CS3 is working. When we actually get Snow Leopard, we will know immediately then whether or not we have to purchase CS4.

Cyberduck is broken yes.

The latest nightly build does work, however.

Cyberduck's nightly built which was posted yesterday adds SL compatibility. It's working fine for me now after installing that, so don't think it'll be long before they release a user update.

Keep your eyes out for it though as you can't use cyberduck's software updater since it won't launch cyberduck at all in its current form....

funkymonkey has got the right idea early on… what is the build no?

it looks like the user who got the Snow Leopard DVD hasnt installed it yet, so if you are reading this, run this Terminal command with the DVD inserted to check the build no. cat /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist

Why would they need to rush?

It has been mentioned several times on this thread that 10.6 is being "rushed" and that that current build is "buggy" and so on. Why oh why would Apple need to rush this product to market?

It can't be a race against Microsoft, since fully functional, useable Windows 7 has been available for some time now. What other than an internal schedule can be prompting a rush then?

Considering that reputation is at stake, Snow Leopard cannot be a rushed release - it may be coming out this month, the next, who knows? We don't know what build number will be released either and one would have thought that any developers with access to the release candidate or golden master versions would be under a non-disclosure agreement and not be telling anyone anything anyway: the currently available "buggy" versions are not necessarily what ends up on the install DVD.

We'll find out in a week, or a month. Until then, we wait and see.

I find it weird that we had a 20 page thread a week ago when the rumour was/is that 10A432 is the GM. With half the posts being of the "Yes it is", "No its not", "You'll see, you'll alllll see" nature.

Yet now we have one person say if you ask for the build number of the 10.6 recovery disc your a pirate. No. I think there are about 100 mac nerds waiting to do a "I told you so" on either side of the fence. And about 300 other mac nerds who want to know for the sake of knowing.

Also with people complaining about the GM being buggy, how on earth do they know unless a build number is given. For all that we know the recovery disk has 10a435 and fixed 20 important bugs (even though I doubt it highly).

Mac os X Snow Leopard

Do you guys really think Apple will start selling some crappy OS? Apple has definitely something under the sleeve that non of us know about. They already have the last build of Snow Leopard done and ready to ship but, their secrecy is what makes all of this special. The rumored "GM build" is not half of what the last build of Snow Leopard will be. Apple won't be so dumb to publish the exact last build of Snow Leopard to the public before they start selling the product. :apple::)
