Heya

Isn't it weird that apple would create an OS for the Japanese market but leaves the Install disc in information in English?

Maybe Apple has revised the so-called GM build after they seeded it to developers. Does Apple have to use the build that they seeded to the developers? Don't they have their engineers to rely on to release the GM themselves?

Release Date

Ok so I hear Aug. 28th right. Well Apple said it would be released in Sept. so Aug 28th is not far from Sept. 1st. I think the shipments will start on the 28th and arrive on the first. Something like what happened with the Iphone 3GS shipments.

Oh and does anyone know the GM build number for Mac OS Snow Leopard Server?

The packaged system discs that come with a Mac are all labelled in English. The photos certainly look the goods.

Okay, that makes sense. I guess if there was some sense that it was fake, we would know by now (considering it has been 9+ hours since this story was published).

No problems....tethering?

I've been running the "GM" for about a week without a problem...however, I just restarted in 64-bit mode (newest 17" MBP) and tethering with my iPhone didn't work? Weird.

Also, my up-to-date reads September ship date.

Maybe the 64-bit iPhone driver doesn't support tethering?

What, and you think the iPhone magically ferries over drivers depending on your country? It's all in iTunes. Or, more specifically, Apple Mobile Device Support. SL native 64-bit support will probably come with iTunes 9.

Well done Apple, for releasing a broken OS. If it's the last build us devs got our hands on then it's broken.

iTunes and Quicktime STILL Crash like buggery.
mmmmmmmmm, are you sure you meant... buggery??

You're right.... that is rather strange.

Does anyone know if that's how it is normally done?

This IS normal. OSX DVDs are multi-language version. There are no forein language versions of the installation DVD. The labelling of the original DVD is always in english.

I want to know the build number

I'm assuming that the reason everyone want to know the build number is to make sure they are downloading the most recent torrent. Why else would it be? If you were a developer, you would already know the final release.

No, they don't have to. Usually Apple is a few builds ahead of what they publish on ADC.

They probably have their own QA team as well. Developer seeds are just for developers who need to make their applications compatible with changes Apple has put in. In the final stage no significant changes will be made, so they don't need every build on ADC.

how do i sign up for a pre-order for the Up-to-date program? I tried doing it through ...
http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
...but there was nothing added to my cart. Am I doing it right? (cookies are enabled like it suggests)

Scroll down to where it says "Hardware Up-To-Date" then you should see some bullet points on the left and right side of the screen. On the left is if you bought it online and the right is if ou bought it in a store. Click whichever applies to you then follow the instructions from there.

I can confirm this is 100% real as the latest Mac Mini has a earlier disc number:

Mac mini (Early 2009)
Model MB463xx/A D2.0G/1x1GB/120/SD-DL
Model MB464xx/A D2.0G/2x1GB/320/SD-DL
For Mac OS X 10.5.6 (Build 9G2030)
Part number Description
2Z691-6344 DVD Mac mini Install 10.5.6
2Z691-6345 DVD Mac mini Applications Install

2Z691-6492 is later than the above.!

and there are some other bugs here and there.

No way is it final. This, in my opinion, is a rushed release. bad on Apple.

Prove they just don't give a **** like they use too.
The Magic of Apple has gone!!

I really doubt Apple would release an OS that is buggy and doesn't work. They're people, guys... they know that they're doing.

Mathcolo, are you kidding. Leopard was full of bugs when it launced. I know. I went to the launch party, got the T-shirt, and installed Leopard that very night -- which was followed by 4 hours holding on the line to wait for Apple Help to counter the blue screen of death. It was a horrific time because I upgraded to Leopard without backing up my photos. I just hadn't anticipated such a massive problem.

This time, I'm not upgrading to Snow Leopard until at least 10.6.7 or 8. I've realised that all you guys are just paying to enter Apple's widespread beta testing program. About a year from now, Snow Leopard should be fine, and I'll come on board then.

Meanwhile, from what I've seen, I won't be missing out on much. So what if the programs are running 64-bit. What big-deal difference is that going to make to me? Perhaps slightly faster, but not that much. Slight changes in eye-candy animation? Big deal. Smaller disk footprint? No big deal since I have plenty of storage space left.

You guys realise you are just beta testers for Apple.

Yes, it is true.

Unfortunately, the lucky guy decided not to install SL.
He lives north of Tokyo, and geo-tags tell with 100m precision
where he lives, but soon geo-tags are deleted for his privacy.
He called Apple Store and he will receive 10.5 DVD soon ...
He looks typical ordinary person, not a hacking happy.

original thread is in 2ch. (all in Japanese language, of course)

erm have you actaully used the latest GM build of Snow Leopard?, I have been testing Snow Leopard for months since the first build back last year with my ADC membership, defintly not one issue with the one i'm using now, no crashes, no hiccups whatsoever

Why he would feel this is a "hack"? If the DVD were a drop-in, then it's a legitimate upgrade disk - meant for the user to bring the new Mac up-to-date. There's nothing wrong with using it.

I do understand the metadata (geotag) privacy issue, but there shouldn't be any worry about having the disk and/or installing it.

It's been a hoot reading all the speculation, though. All part of the MR experience. :D

Been using it about a week. The speed improvements for everything from starting up, to joining networks, to backing up on time machine, to opening any of the core applications are all freaking awesome. I have to use Leopard at work, and snow leopard really makes leopard just feel tired. But it's true, the genie effect hasn't changed. So yes, I suppose it is a boring upgrade, unless you actually, you know, use your computer to do things as opposed to just minimizing/maximizing windows all day long.

The Genie has been changed slightly, but not how the animation looks. Now the shadow around the window still shows when minimizing. (Also applies for Exposé)
