Exactly !

I want to be able to drive my dell 2001fp at full resolution without any problems :)

So if we're not getting an update very soon then, when are the next approximate dates to expect one? Just wondering how long I should wait.

Well, you can do that already with the current Mac mini. Mine is driving a Dell 2005FPW at 1680x1050 with absolutely no problems.

The Mac Mini will probably not be updated any time before mid-July. Rev. B should include the following (according to http://www.macosrumors.com/20050429.php):

1.42Ghz and 1.67Ghz G4 processors.
256MB of RAM soldered to motherboard (Giving a possibility of 1.256MB of total RAM)
64MB Graphics Card

However, the update may not happen for a few months yet so bear that in mind. IMO what people have been talking about so far on here, have been wish lists and nothing more...

Well the update times for Apple computers have gone way over average the past year, so I wouldnt expect the new mini to appear any time soon.

It'll be interesting to see if this actually happens - they don't offer a shred of evidence to support this report, and its dated April 29th.

WHOOPS sorry, double post - didn't mean to guv, I just slipped

Yup, you're right there. There is actually no hard evidence whatsoever of any upcoming Mac Mini updates. However, these specs do look accurate, especially considering that the eMac used to have 1.25Ghz when the Mac Mini debuted with 1.42Ghz.

It doesn't perform properly on the vga port or support all of tigers features :)

Those specs alone would make it cheaper for me to sell my current 1.42GHz/512MB and buy the new 1.42GHz and add 512MB (total 768MB) than trying to buy a 1GB stick. I'd get a better GPU with more VRAM in the process, too.

Hoping for 1.42GHz/60GB and 1.67GHz/80GB configs (I can't drop to 40GB, I only have 33GB left on my 80GB).

Aside from the splash effect (which gets tiresome after a while) I don't see any difference between my Mac mini and my 12" PowerBook (except in World of Warcraft). ;)

exactly. I found the same playing with a 15" pb when I was in buying my mini yesterday. I love it so much. it smokes my G4 500 in so many ways. its like a breath of freash air in my computer lungs :)

here is a comparison between my tower and my mini:
http://ladd.dyndns.org/xbench/merge.xhtml?doc1=117940&doc2=115728

anyone who wants/needs a mini now just get one. so far I find the 1.25 with 512 ram quite fast. it hardly ever lags.

mini on 2405?

So I'm trying to get a mini too, and been bummed about the no update...

When I eventually get a mini, I want to hook it up to a Dell 2405 (1920 x 1200). Does anyone know if the current mini runs this monitor? If the current model runs it fine, I'll probably just get it and not worry about the update. I think I can live without the ripple effect, although it'll be cool...

edit: I just researched (should of done it before the post, sorry) and the current mini does support 1920 x 1200. Can anyone comment on performance?

I would also suggest making the Mac mini even more price competitive when viewed against the iMac 1.8. A little over $900 for a mini with 512, BT/AE, and keyboard - compared to iMac with a screen and larger HDD for $1300.

Gut Feel...

So... the whole mini update thing is not looking so good anymore.... I still get a strong feeling that they will do something this summer. I can't imagine they would wait until the fall?

Minis and Ibooks will be updated together.. certain of that.. and iBooks are very very do for something....

FYI - Mac Mini shipping time on the Aussie Apple store has once again been changed to 7-10 days (as of this morning).

Who needs forever

Well, it all too much for me.

I'm gonna wait till the end of the month (next week) & if nothing develops just buy the 1.4 & be done with it. Next stop will be some intel based mac, new ibook widescreen looks interesting or wait it out for a PM.

My real issue with this is that if the updates come around September then who is going to buy a PPC based machine when the intel based ones are just 9 months away? (I'm reading the ibook, powerbook & mini will change June 2005)

Now would be the time to get people to buy the PPC stuff & not get caught out buying PPC machines virtually on the eve of the intel launch.

Here in the UK the refurb store is open everyday till the 25th June, Some expo (necc?) starts 28th so I figure that by the 30th we should know one way or another.

The never ending waiting game....

I think I may buy by the end of the month... but I am going to get a low end Mac Mini and upgrade it to 512 Megs Ram. I do not plan to spend a ton of coin when an update is imminent and Apple is about to release a complete new chip set. I am sure that there are many people like me... if they do not introduce something new soon, then the Osborne effect will indeed bite them... the machine I spec out will not be that profitable for Apple.....

good thinking

I was going to do the same but I need Airport & Bluetooth - the advantage is I can remove the AE/BT unit & sell it separately, there must be thousands who bought a mini off the shelf and will want this later. Even in a year I will be able to get my money back on this.

Also the heatsink on a 1.4 is bigger than a 1.2 so I will get a 1.4 which I can overclock safely to 1.5-1.58ghz. I also will sell the 80Gb 4200rpm HD and buy a 60Gb 5400rpm without losing any money. (Hitachi 7200rpm drives are fast but expensive & noisy).

I'm going with the 1GB of ram, once again the prices are so low right now that it makes sense from a performance & resale value.

In the past I have sold the accompanying disks (as I had a standalone version of OS X anyway).

I'm buying 1st July without fail...
