i guess we will see updates in the coming weeks. After the intel announcement, apple wants to sell stuff and they aren't helping themselves by selling a machine with an out-dated grafix card. IMO only the grafix card needs to be improved upon. Everyting else is not much of a concern :)

Why doesn't apple offer grafix cards as BTO option? for example they could offer 5200 and 9600 as BTO options if they don't intend upon updating the mini.. this way every one will be happy :p

I agree a S-video out would be a great addidtion, Maybe we will see updates today??
Id be happier with a decent priced DVB tuner (why the hell do mac ones cost so damn much), never really had a use for svideo out myself (especially since i got myself a 24" Dell 2405 :D), but i guess it couldnt hurt!

The graphics card is built into the motherboard, so if they were to introduce a new graphics card they would have to use a different motherboard...Therefore it would be easier for them to make a new revision of mini's than upgrading the present one's...

Here's what I've been hearing:

Low End Model:
1.5gHz PowerPC G4
512MB of RAM standard
5400rpm 60GB HD
ATI Radeon 9600 w/64MB VRAM

High End Model:
1.67gHz PowerPC G4
512MB of RAM standard
5400rpm 80GB HD
ATI Radeon 9600 w/64MB VRAM

SuperDrive, Airport, and Bluetooth remain as extras.

I would be very happy with that indeed, thats perfect for what I want from the mini.

I cannot believe apple haven't made an announcement about the delays it seems very odd. I suppose if they say there is a new one coming stores with ones in stock will not sell the current ones. Mind you if it was a stock/shipping delay you'd think they'd make and announcement wouldnt you.

Oh well another day waiting ahead.

There has been a rumor for reputable sites like appleinsider that Apple is about to intro some summer hardware later this month. I'm going to wait until Tuesday afternoon and see what happens then.

^ I hadn't heard that, but it would be some good news if it's true. Right now Apple is pretty far behind, and Jobs did say during his interview after the WWDC keynote that "there are more [PPC] in the line to come"

My stock 1.25 Mac Mini ordered on Jun 9th (when shipping times were 24hrs), and subsequently put back to a Jun 23rd shipping date, has just shipped today. No mention of any changes to the spec of course, so all this talk of very imminent updates is just that - talk. At least, it is for the moment.....

This has noting to do with any updates. Maybe some reseller sent Minis back to Apple and Apple sent one to you. Shipping times are not back to normal.

None Too Helpful at 1-800-MYAPPLE

I called and I got a rather grumpy sounding man who it would appear has been asked one too many times about the delay in Mac Mini delivery and he made it pretty clear there was no official corporate line on what was causing it, which seems odd. I mean if its just your average supply-chain hickup wouldn't they give them some corporate line to tow about demand outstripping supply in the short term etc etc etc.

The basis for most of the posts in this thread is that the shipping times have increased, with most people including me jumping to the conclusion (without any other hard evidence) that Apple had created a breathing space for the introduction of an updated model.
What I'm saying is that my order has now shipped after a delay and its not an updated model - this is the best evidence I've seen so far that long shipping times do not necessarily equal imminent updates. I could be wrong.
Why would a reseller return a load of minis? This sounds very unlikely - the mini is still selling well and a reseller doesn't make a profit on returned machines.
The longer shipping time could easily be due to a supply problem with a mini component such as disc drives, in which case it could take a few weeks to clear the backlog.

Think Secret says no Mac mini updates are coming anytime soon. I still think it'll be August before anything happens at all. The current 6-8 day wait is probably tied to inventory issues as Think Secret has reported and has nothing to do with an update coming this month. Until Apple gets the Intel systems cranking in 2006, this is just how it's going to be.

The exact same thing happened in February with the iMacs, yet no updates came until early May. The shipping time increases don't always mean an update is coming and it doesn't appear one is coming for the minis this time either.

Ship time of 1-2 weeks does mean that it will ship in 1-2 weeks - that is what happened when you order got put back and then shipped. (They are not solely there to point to future updates.)

You would think that Apple would want any new machines in 2006 to have "intel inside". Would they really got to MWSF and put out a new Mac with a powerpc in it knowing full well that year the next rev would have an intel instead and likely (as speculation goes) be faster, have a greater future and also be able to dual boot as a windows machines (speculation again) for games...

Given this theory/reasoning, I think any new Macs this year will come out soon so that their next cycle brings with them an intel (8-12 months time)...although Steve did say not until end 2007 would the revamp be done...mmm...

The first Intel based Macs will be coming in the first half of 2006, and the mini is rumored to be at the top of the list along with the notebooks. What I was saying is that I'm hoping we'll get an announcement of an Intel based mini at MWSF. If not then, certainly within a month or two after that. I definitely don't expect to see any major updates to the mini as long as they still use a PPC chip.

On a related note, the Mac mini is back to same business day shipping at the Apple Store as of right now, so it looks like Think Secret was right.

got my mini a few hours ago and I am totally in love. its soooo much faster than my G4 500.

very glad I didn't wait..

Shipping times have returned to 24hours in the UK store and returned to same day shipping in the U.S store looks like the shipping delays where just a false alarm....

Who would have thought a shipping delay would be just that?! ;)

It's too bad there's no update coming, I guess I'll have to wait to spend that money. I don't like waiting though, things seem to pop up that need attention right away when I'm waiting to spend the money elsewhere. :(

If Apple don't update some of the lower end hardware until later in the year, some people might skip this revision all togehter and just think .....well, I might as well wait for the change to Intel.

They haven't updated any hardware in ages, they need to sort it out fast.

If they don't sort the mini update out in the next month they will lose at least my sale.

I have a mac Mini that I'm typing on right now, and its great.

What do you guys expect from an update? Do you think that the lowest end mac is going to be on a par (processor wise) with the Powerbook? Of course not. There is always going to be a break in terms of tiering.

So, for those waiting to order; order now. You won't even notice the difference in terms of speed anyway even if you do wait; and you'll be waiting around without a decent computer right now!

Most people are not bothered about a processor speed bump they are more concerned with the GPU being core image compatible and therefore fully Tiger compatible..
