I am not too sure about it. i tried on the US store, but the dates for delivery are the same. Could someone else try other stores elsewhere?
Thank you!!

Let's pray for the update, either Friday or next week.. I am particularly praying for my iBook 12"!!! Apple, next week please!

Haha, I see.. I can clearly recall that the shipping date if I make a BTO to the mini is 10-15 days in Singapore when I tried it yesterday. May be it is a system error, or perhaps the new mini is really on its way to Apple store...

Unexpected Emergency at the US Tele Store??

I just called 800 692 7753 - which is the US Apple Tele Sales number and I went through the promts and it said "do to an unexpeceted emergency we can not take you call"? What is up with that ???

Here's what I've been hearing:

Here's what I've been hearing:

Low End Model:
1.5gHz PowerPC G4
512MB of RAM standard
5400rpm 60GB HD
ATI Radeon 9600 w/64MB VRAM

High End Model:
1.67gHz PowerPC G4
512MB of RAM standard
5400rpm 80GB HD
ATI Radeon 9600 w/64MB VRAM

SuperDrive, Airport, and Bluetooth remain as extras.

Good Question

Which model would be a better buy given the prices will be the same as they are now?

I would pony up the $100 and get the bigger HD and minor speed bump. When I get a rev. b Mini I plan to keep it a while... but if you plan to just have it for a year or so I would go with the low end rev b.

So what does that mean for me... Tuesday I ordered the 1.42gHz/512Mb/80Gb and now am kind of curious as my order sits delayed until the 27th? having paid $50 for the extra RAM will they give me $50 back or upgrade or what?

Call them....

I would call Apple and ask them.... my guess is that you will get the upgraded mini and they will credit you the additional cost for the ram upgrade.

Yes it´s probably worth it.

If Mini goes up to 1.67GHz then it is just as powerful as the high end Powermacs. :D

Seems quite close, apart from a higher speed CPU and now 'slightly' larger HDD in the top end model, will the price difference be worth it? I hope there is a little more to differentiate the two...

I really doubt they will go as high as 1.5 and 1.67 models. I bet it will be more like 1.33 and 1.5 models.

1.25 Ghz to 1.33 is too little IMO.

I wonder whether these specs mentioned above are correct. I have seen them appearing on other forums today and we can hope.

We just had an earthquake today maybe thats it

I have looked at benchmarks of the new emac with the 9600 64mb graphics. when compared to a 1.42 mini the ONLY place the emac showed noticable gain was in the HD test. all the graphics tests were close enough that you wouldn't really notice a difference. also, I really don't see there being much of a speed bump coming in the update (whenever that may be). here is the comparison: http://ladd.dyndns.org/xbench/merge.xhtml?doc1=117651&doc2=114724

my logic right now is that if there are updates tomorrow I will order a new one but if not I am buying the 1.25 with 512mb my local dealer is holding for me. I need a new comp. now.. not in 2 weeks or next month. if I wait its waiting on speculation but buying that 1.25 is a sure thing.

I bet when there are updates all I will miss out on in the end is a small system boost that could easily be done without. I also plan to overclock the 1.25 to 1.42 or 1.5 (as many have) once the 1yr apple cvoerage is up.

am I nuts to buy now? maybe a bit but I will go more nuts if I do not get more computer power NOW!@#

thoughts?

Im surprised that the benches between the eMac and mini arent that large in performance, bar the HDD, which is to be expected since the mini used a laptop type.

Also surprised that the graphics tests arent that much apart aswell, the GPUs are a generation apart, the 9200 being a derivative of the 8500 (DX8) line, and the 9600 (DX9) being the next gen.

Interesting stuff indeed.

I just hope Apple ships a 5400 RPM drive in both the 40GB and 80GB drives. If I knew that I would receive a 4200 RPM 80GB drive, I wouldn't have upgraded to the 80GB when I preordered.

One would think that the more expensive hard drive option would be 5400 RPM... apparently not.

What about this difference then?

Mini 1.42 scores 122.72
eMac 1.42 scores 151.71
iMac G5 20" scores 178.78

It is also interesting how well 1.42 GHz G4 performs against 2.0GHz G5. G4 seems to be faster per clock speed.

So the G5 is a hype?

the only reason the emac final score is almost 30 points higher is because of the HD test. click on the link and look. every test but the hd is neck and neck.
Yes I saw that.

My point was the difference between eMac and iMac. eMac is in the middle of Mini and iMac G5 2.0, due to faster HD than Mini´s....but HD speed is often the bottleneck so the HD speed difference matters.

I totally hear what you're saying. I am going to buy a firewire drive about a month from now and boot from it. I will just use the internal then for photos and music. mac mini's with firewire or 7200rpm internal get 140+ on xbench.

Shipping

Darn... I ordered a Mini Last weekend from Apple canada. When the odered was delayed until the 24th (original ship date was estimated at the 13th), I was all giddy, hoping for a revision and getting a new model... Well... I just checked my order and it's apparently getting ready to ship. Could this all be a simple case of the supply chain chocking up??

thats exactly the impression a mac dealer gave me. the stores have mini right now but thats only because when the mini was first out and for a few months later it was in pretty high demand. well, thats no longer the case and in turn apple is making less.

this delay may be due to lower production to suit lower sales but there must have been a sudden boost in amount ordered. this puts some logic on the delays.

Pretty likely given its on the Airport Express. Given the multimedia uses people are putting it too such an upgrade should b e a priority - along with video and normal ram.

I think that is too much of an update at this point. I think that any changes along your lines would take place once the mac mini is ready to go the Intel route next year.

I could possibly live with the high end unit for two years till the Macintels PM's hit.

Well if Apple dont mind sales slackening even more on the mini then I guess adding nothing new but a better graphics card and standard ram is the way to go. I figure that with the intel announcement they need to keep innovating with any new powerpc releases - and how many people are turning their minis into multimedia centres (or want to). I would also like to see s-video out myself ;)
