Uh, PowerMacs? They were just updated two months ago. What makes you think they'll get another revision so soon?

The power mac update was next to nothing to get excited about. You may very well be correct in that no update will happen. The thing that makes me think the MAY be updated was the "we have some great things in the pipeline" comment from Steve Jobs after the Intel switch announcement. This, combined with the fact the Power macs were update April 27th, then the imacs updated a week later and now the dropping of the 1.8Ghz power mac all lead me to at least wait until after Boston.

Just putting two and two together to get 6.

Did you see the new ThinkSecret exclusive? "Apple not expected to release two-button mouse next Monday."

:)
Yeah, that about sums up ThinkSecret lately. I was so pissed off with them over the Intel thing. Everyone always saying ThinkSecrets the most reliable rumor site blah blah blah. So when every other site started posting rumors about Intel what did I do? Like an idiot I checked ThinkSecret day after day. Nope, ThinkSecret didn't say it therefore it must not be true. Even after it came out in the WSJ and the NY Times I doubted- because of that site! Can you believe it? I actually beleived the Wall Street Journal was wrong because of ThinkSecret.

Nope, never again. From now on I'm getting all my rumors from MacRumors, HardMac and AppleInsider. If the rumor hits all three it must be true! :D

I'm sure they'll be releasing a newer G5 PowerMac eventually, maybe with the dual cores everybody's talking about, but remember -- they have *at least* 2 years before that particular line switches to Intel. They've got plenty of time to introduce an upgraded G5, and then -- what do they do after that? The thrust of the Intel announcement was that looking down the road, they didn't see much of a future for the PPC. If they really had enough goodies in the pipeline to sustain 2 years' worth of frequent (and a mere 2 or 3 months after the last update would qualify as 'frequent') updates, why would they be switching? Im sure they have SOME new stuff, but not a LOT, so I suspect they're going to try to stretch out the updates for as long as they can.

Back on topic of the Mac mini, that could occur at anytime also. I keep checking the refurb area, but so far none are listed. Just wonder why no Mac mini available?

Just for your info, UK Mac Mini's are BTO in Czech Republic, shipped to Luxembourg, then via Belgium to the Netherlands, & finally imported to the Tewkesbury Apple depot (sometimes Luton) & judging by the time it took from shipping to actually getting it, I would guess it came by donkey post.

Go mini updates!

Incidently I overclocked my 1.25 to 1.42, stuck in a 7200 rpm Hitachi (7K60) HD & 1Gb of ram - Xbenched at 137. (1.5Ghz with same hardware xbenched in at 139.85, o/c a 1.42 to 1.5 or 1.58 (because it has bigger heatsink) will get you similar Xbench result to 1.8Ghz G5 imac running in Auto

Just wondereing, how did you overclock your mini, and would that be possible with my 1.25Ghz Alu Powerbook too?

There is no indication that Mini is about to be updated. I think this is just a wishful thinking.

I think Apple are really drawing out the updates for the low end hardware. Mac mini update in January 2006, iBook update in September/October this year - just as we waited over one year for eMac revisions.

Oh, how quickly they forget. For everyone panning TS, they were pretty much the only one to nail the exact specs of the recent Powermacs (a few weeks before the announcement), when most of the other sites were frothing with certainty over the imminent availability of dual-core G5 PMs. Sure TS publishes less often than many of the mac-addicted would like, but in my book, when they print a rumor (especially regarding hardware rumors), it's as good as gold.

That would be because Apple NEVER gives any indication. EVER.
That's not true. Any event that involves Steve Jobs giving a keynote- that's an indication! :D

bigger... better... faster... more...

No it isn't possible on the Powerbook, but the quickest way to substantially speed your ibook/powerbook/mini is install a 7200rpm drive. On various manufacturers websites they almost all claim to do a 7200rpm drive but so far I've only ever found the Hitachi 7K60 (40/60Gb) for sale. Its fast but not too quiet - still less irritating than the 'dropping marble' sound of the 80GB drive in the Minis.

No update on Oz site

while a week back the shipping time for Mac mini was 7-10days, it is now back to 1-2days. The specs have not changed. May be it is some kind of secret mischievous update. :D

well..

It will become evident by July 14th at the latest where the mini is going, there is plenty of wishful thinking but also it fits into a time frame where an update wouldn't be inconceivable.

September is the mid point between Rev A Mini and the proposed June 2006 Intel Mini so Apple may use the Paris Expo for this purpose & give us a minor ibook update in the next two weeks for the education buyer.

I for one will order by the 7th July (update or no update) knowing that a BTO to the UK will take about 2 weeks.

Now that the iPods were updated, the 5G won't be out for a while. So, the only other thing for Apple to do is update the Macs. I am so confused as to when this is happening. I mean, I know the updates are speculations, but people are saying July 7th and 11th. Why? Anyone share some insight?

We still have the news conference coming on July 7th. One can only hope that an update might occur then.

July 7th - Big Press Conference by Apple - Possible iPhone launch

July 11th-14th - Macworld Expo

These are the two events where any update may be launched, the next event after this is the Paris Expo in September, then 2006. Apple uses 'events' to launch products usually (not always though). Additionally there have been rumours flying around about the mini recently & the ibook is way overdue an update + heaps of wishful thinking!

We need to hear something, updates would be nice also.

The only problem is that MacWorld Boston won't include Apple unless there is a surprise announcement made on July 7th. That would be so awesome.

a quick question...

Does anyone know if the most recent minis are still selling with the faster drive with the slower chip version and the slower drive with the faster chip?
-or-
are they now using the same drive...if so 4800 or 5400?

drive size

Mini 1.25Ghz - 40GB 5400rpm Seagate drive

Mini 1.42Ghz - 80Gb 4200rpm Seagate drive (+ horrible 'marble dropping' sound every minute or so as the drive parks)

Even if you get the mini 1.25 + BTO 80Gb drive you end with a 4200rpm drive. (I will ebay my 80GB 4200rpm even if it means getting a 60Gb 5400rpm with the proceeds)

Well we'll know by the end of this week whether anything is happening to the mini - not long now!

Thank you!
