some more news from the world of monster machines

acer had one called the acer aspire 9920

also the hp hdx dragon for a 2007 machine had some very nice specs
example of one owner i found on the world wide internet web

"hdx 9399sx
nvidia geforce 580 gtx graphics card
windows 7 ultimate(i already have the windows 8 beta)
6tb hdd(2 x 3tb western digital sata hdd)
intel core i7-980x processors(3.3 ghz & 3.6 ghz with turbo boost)
8 gb ddr3 memory"

thats quite a good machine for one thats nearly 5 years old

also people did take the 20 inchers to cafes

http://sleepny.lefora.com/2010/11/27/what-computer-do-use-like-when-you-go-to-a-cafe-wi/

if we can put the man on the moon
and hp, even dell and acer make 20 inch laptops
i think that apple can make a 19 inch mbp laptop

You keep posting about old machines that are no longer made. Think it's a coincidence?

and yet there are buyers for them on ebay and lining up on the forums for these monsters
think thats a coincidence?
and yet there are people here who say they would buy a 19 incher if apple made one
think thats a coincidence?

10 people on this forum doesn't mean anything. The people who are trying to buy them on eBay are collectors who want them just for wanting the device, not that specific attribute.

“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.”
- Henry Ford

Yes, it's a coincidence.

2003 powerbook
before that people said 17 was too big
they sell thousands of them
they are so light now (sub 7 lbs) people will carry them
they are not for the girly men
so now they can make a 19 incher surely

I don't think this this is just a case of weight. The form factor would become quite annoying. There's a point where you're better served by having a desktop or external display around.

i know a lot of business people who would carry them around
17 is nothing for these people
19 would be just right in a sense
because 17 is normal for them
also there are people who arent girly men
and who have muscles to carry them

also i want to know
will some mac expert here tell me
if it is allowed by the mac gods
who do i have to contact to get a custom made 21 inch mbp like that one in the photo on page 2 of this thread

If it would be a 5 year old machine, it would have traveled to the future, as there was no DDR3 RAM available back then for notebooks, Windows 7 wouldn't have been released yet for two years, the i7-980x wouldn't have been released for three years yet (it is also a desktop CPU), 1.5 TB 2.5" S-ATA HDDs were released in 2010, no 3 TB 2.5" S-ATA HDDs are currently available, only 3.5" S-ATA HDDs (which are HDDs for desktops like the Mac Pro or iMac) and the GeForce 500 series has also been introduced in 2010.
Therefore the owner has either a new and very heavy machine, or upgraded an already heavy machine, kinda impossible though, if it had 2007 technology, it cannot be upgraded with 2010 technology, or the owner is a compulsive liar, or you read something wrong.

PS: I couldn't find any HP site for that specific laptop, which is another sign of too many laptops not needed I guess.
Apple wants to keep it simple.

PPS: As for that mod, I don't know. I just came upon it one day.

As a business man and not "girly" by any means, I would find it rediculous to have a bag and walk into a meeting and throw my 19" laptop on the table versus a 13" pro or air model.

Let me ask you this- How many people have you actually seen using a laptop larger than 17"?

Not many, because they're so big, no one wants to carry them around.

Exactly. It's not that we're "girly", it's that by the time you get the work you would do on a 19" screen, your at a point where you want other features of a desktop, like reliable power and cooling, lots of connectivity for external devices, etc.

The article linked to about that Dell monster is very sarcastic :D

he obviously upped the standard specs
thats the beauty of that machine
that he did that
because i dont think its all that easy with the mbps
even if you replace the optical drive
pcs tend to be more future proof
heres the link his post is alex at the bottom of the comments

i dont like this hp design
so i want johnny ivey the lord of the manor
to design a 19 inch macbook pro
or promptly return his knighthood for being a fail

Quick note... YOur previous post says DDR3, but that laptop uses DDR2. That is not a possible upgrade.

If they made a 19 inch MBP I would buy it.

I think they would sell a lot to moms at home, designers, and anyone who wanted the extra space.

Once you go 17 you won't go back. Even 15 is too small.

Also having a 19 inch in a cafe would attract a lot of attention from the moms and people there. For a single guy this is very good.

What do you all think?

I'd buy one.

Portability means very different things to different people. I never take my 17 inch laptop to coffee shops or on airplanes, or carry it around with me all day. If I did I would have an 11 inch or 13 inch probably. But I do put in the car when I go away for a night or a week so I have a 17 inch. It is a portable desktop I can take with me. If there was a 19 inch or a 21 incher the extra size and weight wouldn't matter, even battery life wouldn't matter as I plug it at the other end.

I would accept there may not be a business case, but it would be an attractive option to some people, me included.

ok typing error when i typed it i see
so then i wonder whether he did upgrade it
he says he did how much was his i wonder
interesting machine for a nearly 5 year old beast
so if they were making 20 inchers 5 years ago
dell was
hp was
acer was
and acer make macbooks
they are all made in the china land
so why no 19 incher from apple
they would sell them to moms
who like the big ones
they would sell them to me
because all the mama sans would stop by and say oh its so ooki
thats also a reason to buy one
apart from the fact they would be the monster trucks of macs
and would be very nice on the eyes

But it wasn't a 2007 machine, that Alex upgraded, unless he put an entirely new logic board / mother board into it, as you can't put DDR3 RAM into DDR2 RAM (you can, but then you will break the connectors), and Alex also had to put two 3.5" HDDs into it. That thing must weigh more than six kilos. Why? To be able to game on the road and torrent twenty Linux distributions at once with an abysmal 1680 x 105 pixel?
If a 19" or 21" MBP would have similar specs, it would have to be this thick:

And then there is the 30" PB mod:
PowerBook-30.jpg

Okay, this is seriously turning into a troll thread. You don't seem the understand moms, computers, 2007 technology and just want to bait is into some reaction.

PS: That 21" MBP mod was done by ME.
Wanna know how?

Apple was too, they used a 1680 x 1050 display panel in 2007 20" iMacs, I have one of them.

they are all made in the china land
It is just called "China" or 中华/中華 or 中国/中國 or The People's Republic of China. "chinaland" is quite derogative.

----------

I would
love to
know how you
did that.
Soon.
