Every app is capable of storing a copy of its files in the cloud, then apple pushes it to all devices that have the app. That's all. Simple yet powerful. It's actually exactly like dropbox, except with an API for devs and 5GB for free, instead of 2 from dropbox. All I know is I'm switching to iCloud as my main method of cloud storage once it's out, with dropbox as backup.

But how is this going to work in reality as a Dropbox replacement? What app would you use to sync all your files? And if you want to sync with your Mac, does that mean that particular app needs an OS X counterpart? For example, if I want to use Documents To Go or Goodreader to act as a Dropbox replacement, does that mean those two developers now have to create an OS X app?

Back to My Mac / TV & Movies in iCloud?

Anyone try out the new iCloud version of Back to My Mac?

Just curious what the new functionality is like. Integrating it with both Lion and iOS5 would be sweet. The ideal is full access to everything on a Time Capsule from anywhere via Mac or iOS device.

And any word on studio deals to bring movies/TV to iCloud? Seems weird to have only songs, apps and books without them. Thanks.

I am a heavy documents user. I know exactly what changes I make and other stuff. I dont like the idea that every minor change I make to a document is duplicated in the background and taking space of my small 256GB SSD. If I had a 1 TB SSD then it wouldnt matter too much, but I only have 256GB of which 60GB are free.

I dont need versions, but Ill admit is a cool feature for others. The main problem is that it cant be turned off. Why wont they let users choose if they want this feature or not, like Resume?

Also, I have the feeling that Ill start to mess things up with my documents if versions if enabled. Imagine having 500 previous documents of one document in versions. Its a mess!!! I would screw something sooner or later...

Is it possible to delete manually the background files? This way maybe I could only have 10 previous versions instead of 500... Anyone knows how?

you have a misunderstanding of how it works. at no point does the OS make 500 copies of you document -- it just keeps the changes separate in incremental versions, noting what changed. like time machine, you can navigate to any point in time prior and grab what ya need. or split it off if you want to.

Don't believe what you read on the Internet. Most bugs are caused by hosed systems. People never think things out. They forget about third party plugins, extensions, framework modifications. The knee-jerk reaction is to point the finger at Apple immediately. If they figure it out later they will rarely admit they were wrong. Too embarassing.

Well, Apple has confirmed this at the Apple Developer program.
Secondly, Xbench mark clearly shows it is about 5 times slower.

Some more 10.7.2 info:

- Never got a crash again. (previously Pixelmator and Cyberduck crashed ones). Seems to be a isolated crashes.
- The bug with the keyboard illumination is still happening. Though sometimes it works, sometimes not. Strange
- The little graphic glitch I got in the preferences 'Energy Saver' (S from Show All was sometimes white) is gone.
- With 10.7.0 the mouse pointer sometimes stutters. Not anymore with 10.7.2
- Left/right scrolling in Launchpad is smooth.

I'm pretty sure the 10.7.2 beta incorporates the soon to be released 10.7.1 fixes.

So......you don't like it because you THINK it's going to cause you problems but it hasn't actually done so. Solid logic there, keep it up.

He knows his work flow. Therefore he can determine where versions could fall short.

I work on 5 gigabyte photoshop files and sometimes explore options after a file is saved. I might not intend for these changes to be permanent as i am just exploring. Now, thanks to apple, it appears that all those changes are going to be tracked and even saved if i just close the document.

I'll have to adjust my work flow to step in line with apple. But not everybody needs to or wants to be spoon fed.

Versions is not system-wide, it only works with applications which support that feature. Photoshop isn't one of those applications and neither other Adobe programs.

How exactly would it meet the Fall release schedule?

Where on Earth is December 20th considered Fall?

Northern Autumn runs from ~21st September through to ~20th December.

It's the three month period from the Autumnal Equinox to the Winter Solstice. Winter is the three months from the solstice to the spring equinox, Spring from the equinox to the Summer Solstice, summer from the solstice to the autumnal equinox and round we go again.

The freezing issue you are seeing, is 10.7 finally revealing to you that your graphics card was improperly baked. Take it to the Apple store and have the logic board replaced.

I hope they fix the ATI2600 freezing issue. Can you look what versionnumber the ATI2600 has?

Has the Safari memory leak been fixed at all ?

I am finding that with just Safari open, looking through Activity Monitor and System Memory, Safari alone is using close to 800MB ?! It just seems very laggy and slow, oh and I'm running 8GB DDR3 RAM in my Macbook Pro...

Um, *everyplace* in the Northern Hemisphere, where Apple is based. "Fall" runs from September 21 until December 21.

iCloud

iCloud is really gonna be amazing. It's gonna have more ability than people even realize at this point. Not having to worry about syncing anything and everything pretty much automatically being backed up is gonna be awesome for the iOS platform. Free email from Apple, music backups, etc. It's gonna be awesome.

There will be no sync folders. The app being used has to support iCloud. I guess iWork will get updated for iCloud.
