Things are working fine on the 1.25 G4 eMac.

Edit: Also seems faster to me...! Those graphics drivers at work, maybe?

it's probably because your machine went through the optimization process. something about pre-binding application extensions or something.

tends to quicken some stuff.

Yay! The final clue to the hidden features ipod mystery... although, I'm still, not sure what, exactly, it is.

This update gives me a reason to finally format my drive and do a fresh install.. I call it my "Summer Clearance." Everything must go!

also on me powerbook web seems a little faster in safari maybe it is the pre binding crap thats speeded it up ?

I also have a Security Update Availible...

Security Update 2004-08-09 delivers a number of security enhancements and is recommended for all Macintosh users. This update includes the following components:

libpng (Portable Network Graphics)

For detailed information on this Update, please visit this website: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n61798

Just tested the URL given on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ that shows this problem, it crashed Safari before the 10.3.5 update.

All seems OK now.

More Detailed Update Description

Bluetooth FIle Exchange now works better with Bluetooth-capable Hewlett-Packard printers.
Resolves an issue in which an application that's performing an asynchronous Bluetooth operation could quit unexpectedly, if the computer went to sleep before the data transfer was complete and the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" preference setting was disabled.
Addresses an issue in which Bluetooth File Exchange could unexpectedly quit if you tried to copy several files but one or more of them already existed at the target location.
If you had difficulties connecting to the Internet with a Comcast cable modem and your account uses DHCP configuration (as opposed to PPPoE), then this update can help you connect more easily. If it doesn't, contact Comcast for further assistance. (An example of this issue would be that your computer can't get an IP address when connected to the cable modem, and your Network preferences are set to configure via DHCP.)
Improves the way Safari handles certain kinds of GIFs, including ones that could cause Safari to quit unexpectedly.
Reintroduces shorter server pathnames; the overall limit remains 89 characters, but now only 24 characters (instead of 39 with Mac OS X 10.3 through 10.3.4) are reserved for the beginning of the pathname. More...
Image Capture can now import MPEG-4 movies (.MP4) from compatible digital cameras.
Resolves a potential data loss issue after renaming a Mail mailbox file.
Addresses an issue for Mac OS X 10.3.4 in which Installer might unexpectedly quit when installing software that has a Japanese name.
Corrects an issue in which analog speakers connected to a PowerBook or iBook during sleep sometimes didn't produce sound after waking the computer.
Resolves an issue with Mac OS X 10.3.4 in which the internal microphones of some iBook (Dual USB) computers would not be available to applications or Sound preferences.
Allows the "Attach" button of Eudora version 6.0 and 6.0.1 to work as expected.
Improves support for NTFS-formatted volumes.
Updates the libpng (Portable Network Graphics) component.
Includes recent Security Updates.

10.3.5 Server and Security update Ok

Just completed the 10.3.5 server update and security update.

All is fine. Nice smooth update and no issues so far.

Interesting...

Has anyone else repaired permissions since they installed? I must have have a thousand corrections. Has anyone else had this experience?

Hickman

I hope I get the same FPS as I did in OS 10.3.3... 10.3.4 was killer (in a bad way).

Nope, just 4 - see below:

Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
Determining correct file permissions.
Symbolic link ./Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/NetServices/Frameworks/BDControl.framework/PrivateHeaders repaired
Symbolic link ./Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/NetServices/Frameworks/BDRuleEngine.framework/PrivateHeaders repaired
Symbolic link ./Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/NetServices/Frameworks/NetServices.framework/PrivateHeaders repaired
We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/cd9660.util. New permissions are 33261
The privileges have been verified or repaired on the selected volume

Thus far, all is fine on my updated G5 and my iBook is still optimizing.

BTW, did anyone else notice the different sized installers for different Macs? (ie 20 MB difference between iBook G3 and G5 installers?)

no problems thus far

no problems. 1.25 AlPowerBook 10.3.5

hoping this might help solve my problem with my m-audio audiophile usb.. we'll see when i get home. the last usb/firewire update helped significantly, maybe this will permanently solve the problem.

anyway, time for routine computer maintenance.. and file deletion.

FYI

I did a disk permission as I always do after installs-

Good and Bad

Good: My windows network is functioning flawlessly.
Bad: My computer is running UBER slow.

I don't know if it's going slow because it's just "getting used to" 10.3.5, or what... it sucks!!

everything is running fine so far on my 1Ghz 12" PB Book. I guess I will repair permissions now...

I had those 4 as well...along with every single .plist file. All of them ere executable and should have been rw-r--r--. Ran the repair again and everything went well. But, I will let you guys know if I see any other weirdness. By the way, this happened on my 1.25GHz PB.

All seems fine here after installing on my Tibook. No problems (no noticed improvement either) after about 10 minutes.

I repaired permissions, but there were none to be repaired. I just did so after installing iPhoto (and there were a ton then), so maybe that's why.

The documentation says the updater updates Mail, so I looked and Mail's version is 1.3.9, © 2003. Is this the same version as before? Maybe "Resolves a potential data loss issue after renaming a Mail mailbox file" doesn't merit a new version number.

Now to install 10.3.5 on my Power Mac G4.

EDIT: On my PM before updating, Mail is version 1.3.8, ©2003. This means either
1) Apple fixed this last year and was keeping it from us all this time! :)
2) They forgot to update the copyright year.

dang you people need to calm down about the iPhoto 4.0.2. that was a freak accident. i would hope apple would put a little more consideration in to a major OS update.
