3 days uptime record? I leave my G4 on 24/7 and only reboot when an installation requires it. Why in the world would you have only a 3 day uptime RECORD? My 450 has went at least a month or more without a reboot. Rock solid OS X! Try that on a PC.

Anyway, the update went great for me. System overall seems a bit sluggish though. I'm gonna run a few diagnostics to see if there's a problem anywhere. It's probably just because I am stuck with a dinosaur of a PowerMac (450mhz G4 AGP).

I have a dual 450 G4 myself. So I'm pleased to read that the update is OK for my Mac. I leave mine on 24/7 also. For me it's Safari that gets sluggish that is with my current 10.3.7.

Well, the update has definately made some improvements on my iMac G4, 17"
I am pretty sure that Safari is running much better - after it had been slower than a snail on tortoise's back. Also think that Exposé is running better, as I had been having some irritating issues where the window name labels were staying on screen after i had quit Exposé mode.
General system performance is also looking better.

A mate of mine with a PowerBook will be happy if it delivers on some of the issues it promises to fix!

I am sick of all these OSX updates and security fixes. Considering it takes at least 3 minutes to install and reboot from these updates, multiply that by at least 5 million OSX 10.3 users and we have collectively wasted 15 million minutes, or 28.5 years!

Screw Apple. Can't they release a new dot release that carries throughout it's entire shelf life? Such massive wastes of everybody's time doesn't bode well for a company with an already 1.8% market share.

Oh shut up! Linux has updates, Microsoft has updates. A point release is just a numbering scheme, it doesn't have an inherent value.
I'd like to see just how much time you've wasted by typing up this post and making us all read it. You owe me money for my time. ;)

I just launched iPhoto and it kicked in at 1 second. I used to have to wait at least 15 seconds! I also had issues on the rendering of photos when scaling, thats fixed too!
Nice update Apple!

I agree, iPhoto seems snappier, could also just be the restart and the clearing of the RAM.

My Uptime (23h GMT): 55 days, 21:35

I updated to 10.3.7 something like five hours after it was released, so it really is pretty much exactly 56 days. According to appleinsider it was released at 21h GMT, 10.3.6 according to my calculations was released around 20.30h GMT as well.

I guess this time, I'll try to beat my personal uptime record of 84 days since it just 30 days more...

Dang, VPC just kernel-panicked my computer. Gone is the uptime. Almost all my kernel panics over last year or so were either VPC or modem related. Microsoft even manages to crash your Mac.

All good here on my 15" 1Ghz Titanium PB..

World of Warcraft is MUCH better with the new drivers. I'm getting up to 50 FPS!!! Even Orgrimmar gets a tolerable 20-30 FPS now!!

And what's that? I can actually use the Auction House!!

<3 Apple

I'm shocked by all the problems with the G5 Powermac fans. I have a G5 iMac with faulty fans and this update seems to keep them a bit more quiet than .6 and .7. I've also noticed a bit more snappiness from the whole operating system.

updates don't take down the linux machine, they force reboots on the mac. Last time I rebooted the linux machine was when the people came to check the power outlets. The mac reboots every couple weeks from software update, and the database server was turned on the day after we bought it and hasn't rebooted since.

Long uptimes are normal for Unices. If only Apple could figure out a way so software update didn't require a reboot so often.
Then you haven't updated your Linux kernel. OS X doesn't require a reboot when you simply update an app (or install one), unless there's some kernel component involved, like a new audio driver. On Linux or OS X, if you touch something in the kernel, you'll need to reboot. On a lot of Linux distros, the update policy doesn't automatically include kernel updates, you have to explicitly request them. What Linux kernel version are you running?

It's a large challenge to build an OS so you can update it while it's running. It's kinda like trying to replace the spark plugs on a car while it's driving down the highway. An app is different, since all you need to do is quit that particular app to perform the update. Rebooting the OS is equivalent to quitting an app.

screen brightness more sensitive?

I am on a 15" PBG4 1.5GHz and the screen seems to be very sensitive to light. I am in a pretty well lit room, so screen adjustment is not necessary, and the screen keeps adjusting to the brightness. It is pretty annoying!

Open Gl Updates

Correct me if I am wrong, but don' they update Nvidia and ATI drivers every single update? Is there a lot of "evolution" and improvment in the graphics market, cause according to the updates it is constantly changing!

Also, why do BOTH Nvidia and ATI updates get released at the same time? Do the individual compainies make the drivers or does Apple?

Hmmm, my openGL performance droped down to zero. Xbench openGL test is choppy (like the whole app ;) ), UT2004 is slow and PCSX runs at a third of the speed I got before the update.
Hope this get's fixed somehow.
I got an G4 MDD 1.25 Ghz with a gforce3 (instead of the ATI 9000).

Well, seems I "fixed" it myself. The low opengl performance was just the symptome. It was the macally iShock driver, which for what reason ever took 60% cpu usage the whole time...

I haven't experienced any fan problems on my 1st Gen Dualie. Is it only affecting 2nd gen machines?

I have a 1st gen dualie as well. Never had any fan problems, and I still don't.

Coolingfans going berserk

I have a first gen 2x2.0 G5 and I can also report the coolingfans going in overdrive for no apparent reason on a regular basis. I hope this gets recognized as a real bug and gets fixed soon. This aside, the system seems fine.

I can also report a black screen and non responsive Powerbook 1.5 after installing the update. I had to remove the battery to get it back to life. The system seems fine, but the light on the closing latch is off when the lid is open. I think I remember this being always on.

Finn.

mail is quicker for me as is ichat but i did get a folder on restart like it was zaping the pram ??? any1 else get that

I get this everytime I restart my iMac G4 but not on my G5 PM or G4 Ti PB.

Mine all started with the last sec. update. Can anyone help me fix this issue?

No problems with 10.3.7--except periodic "sluggish modem syndrome" that has come and gone since 10.3.5--so I don't think I'll jump on 10.3.8 unless it is relevant to that. I'll wait a few weeks... maybe 10.3.9 or 10.4 will appear :)

I had an odd thing happen to my Powerbook Keyboard. It completly crapped out.

I did restart and it didn't fix it, i thought i was hooped. I did a shutdown and restart, now it seems its back. Odd though.

I hope it was just a onetime thing.

There aren't many complaints about fan noise at the Apple Support Forum.

Some senior members at MacNN have mentioned this problem. Though one person made the observation that the loud fan noise came after what appeared to be a fake restart where the computer only logged out and logged in again. Maybe another restart would help the problem. My G5 took quite a while to restart, the gray screen was there for a long time it seemed. But everything is working fine now.

Aside from that, Mail is definately snappier, it loads instantly now. And Safari opens a lot more quickly as well.

Card Reader Works

First time on here, so hope I get this right?

Just updated and now the Lexar firwire compact flash card reader that I bought last week will mount on the desktop. When using 10.3.7 the device showed that it was receiving power (green light) but this went out when a card was inserted and nothing appeared on the desktop.

Had a similar experience with a Belkin pendrive that would not mount using 10.3.6.

Everything else seems to be OK. Getting as much out of my old iMac as I can. Looking forward to something new soon.

Wow, OK, that is a long time!

I did the update on four machines.

iBook G4 1.2GHz
PowerBook G4 12" Rev A 867MHz
iMac G4 800MHz
iMac G5 1.8GHz

On the iMac G5 I rebooted while chasing my little one a bit and realized after a few minutes that it'd taken some time to reboot. But after that one initial post-install reboot the following 'test' reboot was just as snappy as before.

Maybe it had to compile/move/change some files during boot initially?
