My wife was having a lot of problems with freezing and Safari just up and quit for no reason. With Tiger no problems at all on her 15" PowerBook. So bring it on Apple.

My whole system feels sluggish; Safari crashes; iTunes crashes, and blank CDs/DVDs aren't recognized; can't print (Epson C80), though that may be because the driver is a beta ...

totally fine here. some little problems but nothing major. no problems i can repeat anyways. sometimes the whole system hits a spot where everything goes slow for a minute, feels like a big app has crashed. but it dosnt. just runs along fine after that.

still, interested to see what new things they bring to the table!

oh wait, some improvements on Preview would be nice. but its not system critical.

I would also like for it to improve expose. I find that expose is very choppy on both my iMac and powerbook. Expose on my powerbook was fine until I installed tiger.

If they fix my inability to adjust my brightess from my iBook's keyboard ill **** myself. Its my only problem with Tiger that really should have been worked out before it hit shelves, imo.

Did I stumble upon a Windows forum?

Guess I'm a bit conservative with my computer -- I didn't move to OS X until we were at 10.3.1! I'm sure I won't move to Tiger for at least another six months.

Well, it looks like most of my questions have been answered. The Mail problem seems to be related to HD space. I've got plenty of that. The Safari problem, it seems to me, may be due to upgrade installs, and there's a fix. The Quicktime 7 forced upgrade appears to have a workaround. So I think when 10.4.2 is released, I'm going to go ahead and take the plunge.

Try FireFox

God I hope they fix Safari. I really thought they'd catch it with 10.4.1, but nope. Still crashes as much as Microsoft Word used to in Panther.

And I hope it's one of those "overall performance upgrade" things, because Tiger is really slow on my dual 2ghz G5 with 3gigs of RAM. Dashboard takes about 15 seconds to load each time with only 5 widgets.

Fishes,
narco.

Try FireFox as your browser. The only time I use Safari is when some program like the weather in Konfabulator loads it. I have several pages that Safari will not load correctly, but under FireFox they will. Plus if you must work in the Windows arena you can use the same browser, FireFox.

As soon as Tiger ran on my iMac, I tested it. Then it went onto the PowerBook. That was 10.4.

I honestly haven't had any major issues. Maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe we're just blowing this out of proportion.

<---Knocks on wood :p

I want to be albe to index my network drives. I want my finder not to freeze or crash. I want my clients computer to run faster.. .. I hope I can get that from this update.

Tiger has been pretty nice for me personally... granted I'm not going to deny the fact that safari crashes alot more often then it used to... but seeing as I'm a switcher I guess it hasn't been THAT bad =/ ... I love spotlight though :D (seeing as quicksilver has really been dropping the ball with me lately...)

I don't see iSync in that list of updates, and it's the buggiest part of Tiger. I still can't get my work computer to keep the right calendar colors... they change every time I sync my home computer.

And the list of iSync Compatible phones seems to be shrinking if anything. Still hardly any T-Mobile phones, and still no Motorola a630 (which, otherwise, is quite a nice device).

Aren't more people demanding that Apple spend more resources on iSync? When you cross-reference Apple's iSync phone list with the list of phones available from any carrier, you get a handful of phones... or less.

Unfortunately u will have to buy the new pro version when u upgrade to tiger

When I transferred data from my Panther G4 iMac to my new G5 iMac with Tiger, it moved the Quicktime 6 pro player that I kept in an AV folder.

. . . and the coolest thing is that you can export H.264 from QT Pro 6.5.2 . . . at least that's the case on my Panther system running 10.3.9, where I renamed QuickTime Player to "QuickTime Player 6.5.2" and then installed the QT Player 7.0.1 update. The "About QuickTime Player" says "QuickTime Version 7.0.1, Player Version 6.5.2." H.264 is available as an export option, and of course I can play back H.264 content, all without having to purchase a QT 7 key. :)

Exactly what I just said above...NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER on my iMac G5 2.0...

Yes, congratulations you have a perfect copy of the OS and do not need to update when this update is released. May I suggest that because you are not aware of the issues this does not mean they do not exist. There are well known and repeatable bugs in various updated and introduced applications within Tiger. Common sense would dictate that Apple has received feedback, is aware of, and is addressing the issues with this update. Otherwise, there would be no reason for the update.

swissman 6 posts in a row which would have been 9 if not for madjew! Methinks you need a refreshers on the cut and paste 'quote' method of replying! ;)

I only have one Tiger problem. The iPhoto one which I'm not sure whether it's awaiting an iPhoto or a Tiger fix and which appears relatively common.

Don't have any of the others - my Dashboard (which has about 10 widgets active on it) refreshes within 2 seconds. It does take closer to 5 or 6 on the first activation from bootup but how often is that! ;)

My Safari is the most stable it's ever been. I can work through a page and open 12 tabs, read through them closing them as I go and then open another 12 without a beachball, let alone a crash.

Actually a beginners course on the cut and paste quote would be good. I don't know how to do what you are suggesting and still make it look like a quote. Anyway it was in the wee hours of the night and I was waiting for my project to finish rendering so I could author a DVD for my client due the next day before I went to bed. Thus the multiple posts in a row. Although I did like my cow that many times in a row.

Pretty easy to do. Notice that when you hit the quote button to reply to a post, the quoted text is bracketed by tags QUOTE=username (put that inside these [] at the beginning of the quoted text and [/QUOTE] at the end of the quoted text. You can copy and paste any text you want to quote and bracket it with those tags.

Duh, example won't work when you actually use the tags.

Pick the first post that you want to reply to and control click on 'quote' to open it in a new tab.

You'll see it starts with quote=username in [] brackets before giving you the text. Delete the text that you're not replying to and leave the /quote (in []) at the end. Type your reply to that comment.

If there's another post you want to reply to, copy it. Then go back to your reply tab, do the quote=username2 in [] brackets, paste in the text and finish with the /quote again.

You can do this multiple times

Exactly - and it will also make the Mods happy as well, as they don't usually like to see multiple posts in a row from the same individual. Keeps the aesthetics of the thread better as well.

Eep, I've been slacking (but only a little) on the multiple-posts thing lately. I usually re-edit or do the multiple quotes, though - I find certain aspects of everyone's comments to which I want to reply and line them all up.

Back on topic: you know, I did an archive/install of Tiger on my Blue/White over Panther 10.3.9 and really haven't had a lot of problems at all. I was expecting a nightmare, especially since in this day and age the machine's a lot "Hackintosh". All my apps run except for Missing Sync (about which I knew beforehand - it's their fault), and I haven't experienced any crashing whatsoever. Safari is as stable as I've ever seen it, and all my sound sampling and editing programs seem to work better.

The only thing I have experienced is a few more beachballs, which I generally attribute to Widgets taking up time and space (am I the only person who isn't goggle-eyed over them?). I'm all for 10.4.2, especially if it comes this week so I can do a combo-update on my iMac and skip right over 10.4.1. I hope it fixes problems other folks are having...

Kinda outdated, but I made this once upon a time. Rather helpful, IMO. Linkety

i cant believe some people are like 'itll be 6 months before i move up to tiger'. Tiger is quality! spotlight, dashboard, automator, all these things, how can u own a mac and not be excited to use all these? dont know where people get all these 'bugs' from. sure safari crashes occasionally, but nothing worth not upgrading.

I can't wait to upgrade to Tiger. However, it will have to wait until Nikon gets its act together and either certifies that Nikon Capture 4.3 works with Tiger OR they bring out an update (perhaps 4.3.1 or 4.4) for Tiger.

I suppose I could make my system a guinea pig but I'm just being a little conservative.

However, if anyone out there uses Nikon Capture 4.3 with a D70 in Tiger, please let me know. Thanks. :)
