Just recently i noticed that the minimize button for finder windows are greyed out, is this normal?

No, this is a bug with 10.4.3, and can happen to any window. Its not just the minimize button which are gone - minimize altogether doesnt work. Restarting the application might fix the problem.

Installed 10.4.3 on noth the machines in my sig and its all sweet, the upgrade was close to 100mb on the ibook and about 60mb on the mac mini, the only annoyance i have noticed so far is that the bluetooth icon keeps disapearing after each restart,

Apart from that all good,

Shadow

Just to Re-Warn everyone:
If you haven't already installed this update, DON'T!!!!
For some unknown reason to me, if can render you computer 100% useless.
I've got 2 iMacs (both Rev. B), one updated just fine, and one I can't get past the grey startup screen.
This is not isolated. I called up my Apple Store and they knew exactly what I was talking about.
Other than that it works fine

Works for me

Tiger is running smooth like butter. Safari renders pages much faster now, and spotlight now runs at ludicrous speed (sorry for the spaceballs reference :p). No problems, but then again I don't have any weird hacks or customization apps installed either.

Well, I've done the update on a PowerMac G3 and an iMac G4, and it has improved stability and I'm not having any of the problems mentioned on either computer. So, I doubt this is happening to everyone.
I didn't say everyone. For me it only happened to one of two computers (and they are nearly identical).
I know someone who works at a UC with a hundred or so Mac computers, all of them were updated, but only one wouldn't start back up.
This is by no means happening to everyone - but why would you want to take the chance? When I called The Apple Store, she said Apple was working on a fix, if I were someone out there wanting to update, I would wait a little longer.

To update everyone to my situation...
to recap - after installing 10.4.3 my computer never got past the grey startup screen.
I took it to the Apple store and he told me to take it back home and do an archive and install (I didn't have the disks with me).
We'll see how it works.

OK...
To finish off my story, I went to the genius bar, he told me to do an 'archive and install' - Now it works fine.
He hadn't heard of any problems, so I guess it is relatively safe to upgrade - but still, I'm not the only one with this problem. It'll make me think before upgrading again.

--The End

Ice age over here

the 10.4.3 has literally doubled the number of times that i have experienced crashes in X. I have used OS X since 10.1.

I removed a few system 'enhancements' and all seems to be okay since last night.

My M-Audio Delta44 driver needed re-installing, i was freezing on anything audio related. (this was also the case with 10.4.2)

Overall, i am disappointed and am considering backing up, and reinstalling everything.

Don't know if this is 10.4.3 related, but my new PB is getting about 1.5-2 hrs battery life in optimized conditions...URGH

Back to 10.4.2...

I have gotten my system back down to 10.4.2 after trying removing every non stock piece of hardware in it (put back the FX 5200, pulled out the extra ram and tuner card...) except my 160gb Segate drive as I don't have the original now. Several (4) reinstalls and upgrades later to 10.4.3 the system still wouldn't sleep properly. Boot off of anything with 10.4.2 and everything is fine. Rather than spend time at the Apple Store with the Genius Bar guys and gals, I found it easier to re-format one more time and only update to 10.4.2. My G5 PowerMac 1.6 is running fine again.

Everybody else I know with a Mac and I will be waiting until 10.4.4 or higher to update and I'll be waiting a few days before jumping on that update bandwagon.

I have updated my iBook and Ti PB to 10.4.3. Both of them are working flawlessly and without any problem whosoever. I was concerned about the possible problems as I read some posters said they had issues with their updates. I have not yet updated my 12" PB. Just to be on the safe side, I will keep my 12" PB at the current 10.4.2 as it is performing well (no need to rock the boat when it is sailing in perfect fashion).

I am surprised to hear many people on this thread are having problems with 10.4.3 update.

Bleep

I haven't read one single post in this thread. But, after having installed 10.4.3 on my iMac, I notice one huge change: the Mail app Bleep.

Anyone else pick that up? (Perhaps 30 pages ago?) The alarm or notification or whatever it's called when the system checks for new email has a new voice: a higher pitched bleep.

<edit> The sound was submarine before.

Agreed! But thanks for the info benthad. I ran applejack, but i guess i will give the osx disk a try.....
I had the same issue on both my Albook and Tibook, repair permissions would keep giving me those same things each time I ran it. Booting from the Tiger disk and repairing permissions from there fixed them for good.

Did you calibrate your battery? Run it all the way until it goes to sleep mode. The battery meter isn't accurate enough until you calibrate it.
Also, use Coconut Battery. Its a good app that tells you your battery's maximum charge, and it's number of load cycles, among other things. If you charge your battery and run it till it shuts down, and it still only gets 1.5 hours....take it back. How long is your PB (I don't know which model) battery supposed to last? Anyhow, I know it's supposed to last at least 4 hours.

I have to say that now I've had a few days to really evaluate the update I'm more and more pleased with it.
My PB is running smoother than it ever has, it's hard to put it into words, it just feels silky.:D All scrolling apps scroll smoother and feel more responsive.
I've done a few restarts after updating various bits of software and the restart time is getting shorter again and the cpu is definitely running a good 5 centigrade degrees cooler. I can't imagine how they would achieve that but it's spectacular, I don't think my fan has come on at all since the update.
Good job Apple.

If Archive and Install would help that means that you've probably installed some 3rd party software at some time in the past that was incompatible with 10.4.3 and when you updated, it caused the problem.

For those of you experiencing the loss of minimize and the yellow button being replace by a grey one: Do you by any chance run a pirated Front Row?

10.4.3 trashed my machine too

machine was perfectly fine before upgrade...

during installer... it through an error up, telling me to reapply 10.4.3 pkg from trash, tried - it crashed again (repeated a few times)
eventually decided to reboot.. bang

starts to load osx, and gets stuck during boot sequentce, almost looking like it keeps initialising itself...

how many others have this issue or similar?
