This is definitely good news. But I can't afford all the s**t I got with 10.4.4, my PB and iPod are still suffering from that horrible, horrible update

Will install tomorrow *fingers crossed*

I was about to install 10.4.5, when I read this. Does any one else think it's not worth updating power pc machines?

Why wouldn't it be? Apple does list some PPC fixes, if there weren't any they'd make the update Intel only.

That makes no sense

Makes me think what other updates are coming down the line that is going to make my iMac not work as good because Apple no longer cares about us PowerPC owners. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, you're probably right. Now that Apple has sold a couple thousand Intel machines, they are going to alienate the millions of PowerPC users out there, including probably 95% of the computers they are using themselves.

6.4MB?! This must be the smallest OS X point update ever!

Oh well. Safari, Dashboard and Epson printing. I use those three :)

AppleMatt

yeh didn't they just release 4.4? anyway, anyone know if they got that issue resolved with VPN and 10.4?

I'm not going to be as anxious to update anymore. My OS 10.4.5 update in SU was a miniscule 6.4 MB. Something tells me that very little was fixed in 10.4.5 on the PowerPC side. The fixes were really more Intel Mac related even though Apple has "two" distinct versions of the 10.4.5 update. I really doubt much was changed and in my case it made it worse. Makes me think what other updates are coming down the line that is going to make my iMac not work as good because Apple no longer cares about us PowerPC owners. Just my 2 cents.

Of course the Intel update was bigger. It's the first update to the OS on a brand new platform and I'd rightly expect the number of bugs and unforseen glitches to be much higher than those on tried and tested platforms.

What you have is some kind of insane bug envy. What you're saying in essence, is that you wanted 10.4.4 PowerPC to be more buggy and broken, just so you could have an update as big as the one for the Intel machines? Or maybe you'd have preferred the same fixes, but 80MB of useless dummy files? Would that have made you feel more special?

What problems were you having that haven't been fixed in this update? If the answer is none, then I've got no idea why you're moaning. Apple can't issue patches that fix bugs which don't exist. Not even if it makes you feel better about yourself.

Yes. DST is in fact changing. They probably forgot to slip that in the last update as you have said...

Must you be so pessimistic?

Other OSes (Solaris, RedHat to name a few) just released TZ patches this month for this. AFAIK, MS hasn't released one for Windows yet.

Chill on the "ooooh, Apple must be behind the times" tone.

i installed the update on my ibook last night. no problems so far. I only used it for about a hour after the update. Ever since i got my ibook, i have fought with it to like the G5 i have. They dont like to network togeather to do a file transfer big or small. My ibook will either hang for a minute with the spinning beach ball and the finder locks up and i have to do a force quit on the finder, or it will say my login info is wrong. I can only seem to go from ibook to G5, and not G5 to ibook which i would like to do because its faster:p . I was hoping this would fix it but it hasnt so far. I still need to install it on the G5 tho...

I think it did fix the audio balance changing on my ibook tho. Usally it would change every other time i used itunes. Havent noticed it yet. Altho i havent noticed it changing for about a week.

Restart was slow as it always is for me after a update. I have only restarted it twice since i have had it, for x.4.4 and for x.4.5.

Does any one else have a problem with quicktime not playing the full video? If i am downloading a video and i go to preview it while its downloading it will play fine until it gets to the spot where its to on the download. Then when its done it wont play all of it on quicktime. I have to use VLC to play all of it. And VLC will lock up on me. Only plays audio, no video.

Has anyone experienced the stuttering sound problem on their Powerbook since updating?

Just curious. I haven't yet personally.

i just had my powerbook lock up when using dashboard. lock up completely. we're talking windows 95 lock up. no i couldn't force quit anything. this never happened before this update. does anyone know how i could revert back to 10.4.4. this update was only 6 megabytes for me. why did i do it? ugh.

He might be right. I repaired permissions and tons of Widget related permissions were changed. Hopefully this means the problem is solved. Any problem that completely locks up the system is a very bad problem. Full system freezes should not happen like this anymore.

Alls well except D200 support

Installed from the combo updater on rev B 20" imac, rev B 17" imac, and a 17" 1.67ghz powerbook. No problems except for long grey screen time upon first restart.

followed the somewhat cautious: Disk Warrior, Cocktail Pilot w/ restart, combo install, restart, Cocktail Pilot w/ restart upgrade path.

No love for Nikon D200 RAW images though, jpegs work.

Safari RSS feeds still not working

Since 10.4.4., I no longer see RSS updates in my Safari. Tried everything, to no avail. Anyone else having this issue still?

Anyone else have trouble with the menu items disappearing. The only menu items that appear are from external apps (gmail notifier, adium). There's no clock, wireless, bluetooth, etc. I have a 12" PB 1.5.

This happened to me too. I had to go through system preferences and disable/enable them in order for them to come back up/be in the correct place. I also have a 12" PB 1.5ghz, but no frontrow hack.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already...I noticed that, just like the 10.4.4 update, this update removed the Bluetooth icon from my menu bar. In System Preferences, the "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" is checked...unchecking and rechecking the box brings back the icon. Easily fixed, but a little bit annoying.

This didn't happen to me and I use a bluetooth mouse. *shrugs*

Ugh

I accepted the updates last night, and was unable to load web pages through Safari. I shut down overnight, and am now back home and rebooted, working fine. Although - this is the first update I have had problems with. Additionally, it hasn't made Safari "snappier". On the contrary, it seems sluggish. Turkey dinner sluggish. :(
