I can't believe how slow your start times are (and others)...do you have old systems? Like I said, I went from chime to usable desktop in 29 seconds.

Reflex: what preferences do you use within Quicktime?

I used the default presets, though I changed them yesterday after playing the MWSF keynote.

Currently I don't have "Open movies in new players" and "Use high quality video setting when available" checked, all the other options are on.

Since the update mentioned fixing QT streaming with firewalls: I use a hardware firewall, the OSX firewall is off.

my ibook install was only 6.4mb...but the intel 10.4.5 install is over 90mb! geez, what is getting fixed in this update?

It was about 40MB on my 17" Intel iMac.

It looks like most of the original Tiger glitches are gone - I saw the welcome to tiger video which I didn't get after installing the OS first time and, more importantly, quicktime movies aren't getting stuck in the dock. If something's minimised then it can be restored without quiting the app.

Happy so far.

Mmmmm...

I think I have worked out why there are two sizes for intel macs:

Do you remember the video tearing issues, well that only affect some intel iMacs that had a certain build of OS X on them, so the ones with the big update suffered from video tearing, and the ones with the small update was just for things like Flip4Mac.

Not Happy!!!!!!!

The 10.4.5 update has made the fan noise on my iMac Rev B much much louder.

My thoughts are that from now on just about any Apple software update is going to be Universal Binary for both PowerPC and Intel Macs. This is not going to be good for us with Power PC's. We will never actually really know 100% for sure that the updates we are installing fixes something specific in our PowerPC Macs or if they are just Universal Binary improvements/fix's. Something is bound to go wrong somewhere. I have been paying attention to VersionTracker.com alot lately and I notice that lots of the miscellaneous software that is being updated is only being updated primarily for Universal Binary compatibility.

I also notice that the file sizes are much larger than they were for PowerPC. This is not good. Clutters up our hard drive with software that doesn't really improve upon what we have in our PowerPC Macs.

I'm not going to be as anxious to update anymore. My OS 10.4.5 update in SU was a miniscule 6.4 MB. Something tells me that very little was fixed in 10.4.5 on the PowerPC side. The fixes were really more Intel Mac related even though Apple has "two" distinct versions of the 10.4.5 update. I really doubt much was changed and in my case it made it worse. Makes me think what other updates are coming down the line that is going to make my iMac not work as good because Apple no longer cares about us PowerPC owners. Just my 2 cents.

Well, if you are absolutely sure you are never going to want to move those applications to Intel Mac or share the containing folders with an Intel Mac, you could always remove the Intel code.

There are at least two ways to do this:

* On the command line with 'lipo' ('man lipo' for details)
* The 3rd party TrimTheFat application

My Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard do not work anymore. The driver still recognizes that they are there, but it is not working. Trying the demo of USB Overdrive, it is not doing the trick either. Be careful with the update, it may do the same to others with these accessories.

my logitech wireless mouse is still working--have you installed the latest software updates from the logitech website?

Don't think so. I have a Duo Core with 128MB VRAM and the update was 40.9. Never had a problem with FR.

Installled it in the morning on my 17" G4 1.5 Powerbook and it works perfectly

Systems a go

Did the upgrade last night. Went smoothly. Got up this AM to start working, the machine fired up FAST, and applications like PS and AI started up much faster.
Maybe it's just youthful optimism, but I like it.

I'm on a PB G4 (rev d).

Sounds like you had the DiVX codec installed - that bug has since been fixed, check the DiVX site for the latest codec that works properly with Tiger.

on my PowerMac Dual 2.0 Rev1 with 3gb ram

I found after the 6.5mb update from 10.4.4 it took over a miniute to boot up
thing were crashing everywhere..

i then repaired premissions.
and it seems much better

Smooth Update

Updated an iBook and a Duo Core 2.0 Ghz iMac.

No problems on either machine after 12 hours of uptime / moderate use.

Mighty Mouse

Did anyone else notice their Mighty Mouse scrolling a lot slower? Ever since I got my Intel iMac I thought that my MM scrolling was a little too sensitive, had it at the lowest setting! After the update, it was painfully slow...

i read a post where someone got flip4mac working??? i tried to install it last night on my imac...it installed fine, but it's not working. i doubt that the 10.4.5 update was to "fix" flip4mac.

the intel download of the update is over 90mb...

my keyboard shortcuts for screen brightness were removed after the update...and i can't seem to get it back...

Interesting. On my girl's SC Dual 1.8GHz PMG5 the fans would intemittently go nuts with 10.4.3 and 10.4.4. With 10.4.5, the fans still intermittently pipe-up but just as they're about to go full-tilt, they get quiet. This is even with CPUs set to Highest. Anyone who had this problem experience the same with this update?

I was about to install 10.4.5, when I read this. Does any one else think it's not worth updating power pc machines?
