major issue (for here at least)

i was notified of a problem from one of my clients this morning who updated. then another. and another. ive just tested it myself, and am running into the same ordeal....

the printers are being stripped out. all printers setup were shared via windows xp or 2003, and setup on the mac as network printers. they have worked flawlessly for years now until this update.

upon getting the update, the printers disappear. when trying to reinstall the printers, you are met with the following error from the mac:
server-error-service-unavailable

ive run through the basic steps in this article to no avail:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107054

currently waiting on a call back from apple, but tech support was unable to figure it out.

if you have shared windows printers setup... and they are business critical (as ours is) DO NOT get this update yet. there is an issue here.

(ps - sorry if this was already stated... a lot to read through here)

and apple has no clue. their only suggestion was an archive install.

looks like i'll be busy today.:(

Just saw this now, going to update as soon as I return to my Mac (I'm at work at the moment, on a Windows XP machine).

Given what I've heard about update-related issues I think I'll run a full backup before installing, just to be safe. The reason I missed this is because I was away when the update was released, and I forgot to check when I returned

This should be interesting to some. Whenever I closed the lid to my 17" PowerBook it would go into sleep mode for a few seconds and then wake up. It would appear I no longer have this problem with this new update. Also, I would have to login twice whenever my system would awaken from sleep mode.

Safari is still as slow as hell though...

Maill.app is now stable and yes iSync finally works again.

No issues on a Mac and Windows environment atleast no printer issues.

Speed up Safari with Speedup Safari app.

Never had an issue with Mail. If I did I just shut it down and restarted mail and it was fine. Works better then MS mail did...so I'm happy.

I clicked on "Positive" on the story on the front page, and the negative count increased...what the hell?

No problems with 10.4.7 here though (although I did install the older version of the keyboard driver over top so I can use MagicNoiseKiller again).

Weather Widget

For a long time now, several of my Apple-crafted Widgets would simply dissappear a second or two after launching (w/G4 on 10.4.6) -- now with 10.4.7, I was hoping I would have their functionality back in my life... wrong!

Now, the weather widget starts and then does this (see graphic)...

Without the background or other graphics loaded, I can't use it! Dang!

OH PLEASE GOD, NOT THE REVISION NUMBER DISCUSSION AGAIN!!!!

These 10.4.9 people have to be the same ones that continued to insist the iBook name was staying even though StevieJ himself said they want "Mac" in all the names. :(

I can only wish I could print through my network to a printer shared on a Windows machine. I have totally given up on that about 4 times now.

STILL whine

nooo...STILL whine! And I was just about to report it has disappeared! Guess I'll be taking this laptop back then...

EDIT: It's actually a lot better than it was...I think I can live with this. I gotta choose soon, the 14-day returns period is over on Saturday!

All is well here

Just updated my rev b G5 iMac. No problems noted. When I get to work I will update my 17" 1.67 powerbook and see if the AFP problems are solved.

Feels A Lot Faster On My Old 1.25 GHz PB G4 Sonictonic

With the equal positive/negative ratings, and all these issues many people seem to be having... I am too scared to run this on my G4 iBook :(

I don't have any "issues" with my iBook really... It runs perfectly great... so should I just avoid this update altogether? Or temporarily?
I notice a significant zippier feel on my 1.25 GHz PowerBook G4 so I would go for it sonictonic. Just repair permissions first and use the Combo installer to make sure any old stuff is getting double checked. Courage. :)

I think the official term you're looking for is "snappier."

Samsung needs to start following standards

Diatribe said:
Or any Samsung phone for that matter. iSync will always be Apple's ugly step child I guess.

From the moment Samsung phones support syncing standards like Nokia or SonyEricsson, you will be able to use them with iSync. Apple is not to blame here, Samsung is.

Ah, they don't? I didn't know that. That's too bad I really like their phones.

The new Diebold voting system still has a few glitches.

I just finished downloading the update on my iBook and am going to restart now. Hopefully iscroll2 will still work.

EDIT: Yeah, iscroll2 still works perfectly.

Well, I've successfully updated desktops and laptops of both PPC and Intel flavors, plus an Xserve with no ill effects. Can't say I notice much difference...kind of disappointed my Blackberry still doesn't work with iSync, but hopefully that'll happen somewhere down the road.
