This really can't be Apple...

Just more proof my friend. Apple are not that slack. This is just two guys with mediocre photoshop talent trying to get some press space.

Dude, we can but hope that they at least release a 64-bit version for the G5, particularly since they have said that wont be releasing a new OS every year now (so probably 18 months). It would suck to be stuck with a 64bit machine with a 32bit operating space.

I agree. I want to hear at WWDC is about all the parts of the OS that are now G5 optimized. They don't need to have two versions of the whole OS, just have two versions of key libraries, and the OS loads the best one for the CPU in use.

So, Fake or no.... not sure. The association with a prankster organization certainly doesn't help... and if they're fake... then ha ha, they got me.

But that issue aside... I think the concept of the "Dashboard" is a good one... these are apps that you do need quick access to from any app. I frequently pull up Calculator and Stickies.

well, I'm up at 4 am for no good reason and I'm going with:

FAKE!!!!!

I'm not buying the dashboard graphics. Seems so, '97/98. Not up to Apple's current feel pushing the trends.

Not to mention, that PDF file uses Panther graphics. I simply cant believe that this stuff could be real

I just woke up to it! :D

Exciting way to wake up on a Saturday morning: Tiger screnshots!
But must say: I vote for Fake.

BTW, why is "ass.gif" been deleted....??? ;)

Overall Mac OS X 10.4 is said to not hold any dramatic changes from Mac OS X 10.3.[/i]

Why do I get the impression from this comment, maybe an incorrect one, that this is going to be a simple "filler" to keep the yearly OS X profits rolling in while they work on the real "next big thing"

So far this isn't looking all that impressive over Panther....so far.
I too am hoping this is fake. I want Tiger to be a major jump from Panther enough that it makes Longhorn seem obsolete right now.

dashboard looks like a good idea, but the apps look nasty! an orange caculator? and what the hell happen to iTunes?
if this was the real thing surely there would be more information about other features?

Hey Arn,

The dashboard concept will definitely be in this release (there is no doubt about that, since it is being released with motion, and I'm sure updates to FCP and DVDSP will carry the same system). My point (and several other peoples), is that they just dont look right. Compare the subtle way the dash appears in Motion (and the styling) and compare it to the clunky feel of these shots.

I really, really don't buy it.

I'm also not convinced by the lack of things mentioning the spoken interface in the system prefs. We all know that Apple is including incredible new accessibility features in this release as they have made announcements about it. I think they would have updated the pref pane to reflect that a little more.

Any thoughts? Instead of discussing these fake shots, why dont we add a little speculation (hopes) as to what they have included. Who would like to start?

update on the pipeline.gif... (previously named ass.gif by me since I thought it was realted to Apple Script Studio).

Reportedly an app that lets users create their own applescript apps... but apparently seperate from AppleScriptStudio (hence the rename)

I'm not sure why you are confident the dashboard concept will definitely be in this release. Explain?

I think he's assuming that since Motion has it that it has to be integrated into the rest of the OS too. This could very well be true, but I wouldn't call it "definite", it could easily be confined to just Motion.

The last screenshot, with the dashboard, semms a little suspicious to me. For one thing, I didn't notice on the other screenshots, but the background colours on the dashboard shot show that it has been taken in 256-colours.
Now, you could argue that it is a gif, but it's a JPG, so if this is going to be in JPG format, why are the colours wrong. Unless it has been converted to JPG from GIF, when it was posted on MacRumors.

Stealth mode would kick a$$! It would be very interesting to see if nmap would still be able to scan you. If stealth mode works as promised, script kiddies would be powerless as they couldn't find our machines.

Erm. It simply means that if someone tries to send a data to a specific TCP port nothing will be sent back, rather than a TCP RST as usual.

If this isn't true, I'll create my own app to do this (free, of course...security for the masses must not be held back by cash).

Nonsense. Anyone that wants to DDOS you can do so perfectly well, all they need to know is your IP address to saturate your inbound traffic, whether you're sending TCP RSTs back to them or not is irrelevant.

Exactly! A release on a DVD with the usual system specific installations. Apple has become very good at supporting emulation (classic etc) so it would be very easy for them to run a 32bit emulation space within the 64 code to make sure that all the current apps still have support.

I have the public beta... The spoken interface is in the universal access panel, under the seeing tab, with its own like options dialog.

all images were originally in PDF format, which were converted to their various formats by myself.

I was excited when I woke up and found this, although now I think that it is probably fake.

Inconsistencies in the user interface and bad spelling (I've never seen something spelt wrong in an Apple release) are a clue, but if it is true it's rather disappointing.

Looks like there's nothing different in this release apart from searching control panels and enabling "stealth mode" like Lindows (Linspire?).

Dashboard feature seems unwieldy but the "gadgets" do have a professional quality to them. I doubt they were cooked up in Photoshop.

Only time will tell.
