I have the public beta... The spoken interface is in the universal access panel, under the seeing tab, with its own like options dialog.

Sorry, what i mean is in the search field under 'd' not only are the entries alphabetical, there is no reference there to disabled or disability (yes, I see that it is a scrollable field). I find it difficult to believe that there would be no entries under there whatsoever.

Colour and fun in Mac OSX? NEVER!! That colourful dashboard would never fly with the Mac crowd, and Apple knows that. If we wanted to use WinXP, we wouldn't have bought a Mac. ;)

And that spelling mistake makes all of this look suspicious.

The one thing I like is the dashboard idea, where they'll hopefully include something that allows me to see the temperature outside in my city, and a World Clock. The World Clock is something I need. I don't like to go to my old Handspring visor just to get times in different cities. I also don't like doing the math in my head every time I'm trying to figure out the time in Toronto when it's 10:39am in/near Sydney.
The calender is another thing. A calender should actually appear every time you click on the Date feature on the bar at the top of the screen.

Seriously guys, I could have done a better fake myself in 20 mins with illustrator. They are faketabulous. Do I really have to demonstrate?

Arn, you are very good at stirring the masses ;)

So, you're saying that while the screenshots are fake, the dashboard concept is legit. Then you are invoking a scenario that these people had this (legit) info and then went to the trouble of making a fake surrounding it.

I'm not here to stir the masses ;) ... I admit there are serious questions raised about validity... but in the end, I felt they had a reasonable chance (but not 100% chance) of being real, so they are up.

Then I suggest you--at a minimum--move this to page 2 if the origin is so dubious.

And I must admit, the source with the N word takes away a lot from this site. Not being prudish, but this is a little distasteful.

Fakeypoo.

We've got:
sketchy looking graphics, a spelling error, a bunch of Konfabulator widgets, and a guy with a name and company linked to a group dedicated to hoaxes. lets not give them the satisfaction of paying any attention to this one. anyone with a spare hour in their day could've pulled this one off.

Who would like to start?

I'm looking for a more 3D experience. But I don't want 3D for the sake of having eye candy. (Example I couldn't care less about having moving video in the dock. It’s a cute feature but if that is going to eat into the development of say the finder or tweaking the speed of the dock or something screw that.) If Apple is going to do 3D use it in a way that makes it useful, functional, aids in productivity, is a radical new approach, and is eye candy-ish after the fact.

Beyond that I would like to see more compatibility with some of the pseudo industry standards such as Word, Excel, WordPerfect, Lotus 123, PowerPoint, Keynote, Visio, etc. Apple doesn't have to go as far as allowing people to edit the docs but allow people to view and print them. Wrap it into the OS so when someone mails you a document you don't have to have the full blown app installed. Make OS X the universal communicator of file types. Would such a thing take some work on Apple's part? Sure. A lot of work. Something on the scale of getting the RIAA to budge on music distribution. But if Apple could do such a thing it would be a major score for them.

On top of that I would like to see major revamps of its minor iApps. From what I've read there is some major retooling that should be done to iCal, and there mail app. I've played around with them enough in the Apple store and have read people's comments enough that I'm seeing some neglect in the software. There needs to be a performance boost and some much needed features. (The specifics of which escape me at the moment since its 4AM.)

A revamp of finder. Start from scratch and do it right. I just don’t like it. Its prob just me but navigating around the OS seems slow through finder. If this is because of the system, how finder was designed or simply getting use to how finder browses for files I don’t know. I do know that I’ve read enough comments that speak ill of finder to the point that I think most think there is still some drastic work to be done on that OS component.

Finally themeing. Jobs needs to stuff his ego in a box and stow it somewhere where the sun don't shine. Apple as a company needs to get it through their thick thick head that Aqua isn't to everyone's tastes. Neither is metal. Neither is wood in garage band. They need to allow themeing. Period. End of discussion. For those who aren't comfortable with dinking with OS X they will leave it at aqua. For those who want a taste of something different the should be able to load a theme or skin. Longhorn is going to blow away anything Apple has when it comes to customizing your system. XP already does this with the help of some basic 3rd party apps that integrate into XP's themeing engine. Heck Windows 95 allows more customizing of how the GUI looks then OS X in some ways. Everyone appreciates the work that Apple and their GUI team does to OS X but for god sake let others think different for once. Let’s take the GUI to places where it’s never been to before. *grabs jobs head and shakes it* For god sake man let some one else play god to OS X for once!! K?'

Now you will excuse me. I'm going to pass out in bed. Nothing like watching Anime all night long to wear you out. :)

it says right in the "News" section of the GNAA website "GNAA leaks info about Apple's new OS". does it get anymore obvious than this?

The hoax group admits it

Yes, this is a fake, and a bad one.
The whole thing that tipped me off is the comment that 10.4 isn't much different from 10.3

All the info i've got, including Apple calling Tiger "HIGHLY evolved" (my caps) points to 10.4 being a major upgrade.

I'm thinking new filesystem (meta-data search?), new Finder, and my own favourite - Cocoa for Win32.

This is just a guess but if I'm right... Think about it - Cocoa for Win32 (was available in the goold ole OpenStep days) together with free Xcode to:

1. get Windows developers programming in Cocoa
2. Once the app is in Cocoa - voila! instant Mac port
3. once they get used to Xcode and the whole quasi-Mac on Win feel, they'll be more likely to walk out of an Apple Store with more than just an iPod.

What'dya think?

This is a very perceptive comment imho. Using the Finder just seems slow and clumsy. Not slow in terms of run speed, but in terms of getting done what you want to get done.

If they want the calendar and clock and email etc to be easily accesible, don't make a dashboard, just make them one app. I like the way Entourage has all those things integrated.

Perhaps.... they were pretty open about who they were... so it's not like it's a big secret who provided the info.

Guess we'll see... (though it is on Page 2 now)... but if you assume the_silver_fox is correct in that Dashboard is real... then you still have to credit these people with _real_ info.

While some of the concepts are interesting and well done i think someone went a long way for a fake out.. the FAQ included.

Installing the latest version of the Startup Disk control panel To switch from Mac OS 9 back to Mac OS X, be sure to use Startup Disk control panel version 9.2.1 or later. A recent version of the Startup Disk control panel is available at this location: • docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120024

Why would apple be updating startup disk when not supporting 9 anymore..

it just doesn't fit.

All the images are Panther stuff, apple's changed the X logo every time since jaguar i don't think they are going to stop that now.

The requirement of a DVD drive doesn't fit either.. my friend has an 800 mhrtz emac without one from less than two years ago.. i don't think they are going to abandon him now

The system prefs thing looks really fake and the scrollbar in the dropdown and the notable missing little arrow next to the magnifying glass tips me off if not for the sheer ugliness of the rest of it. It also doesn't make sense from a usability standpoint.. possibly covering the preferences under it. Not like them at all.

Dashboard sounds really cool and i'll even say i kinda almost like the look but it doesn't fit anything they've done or are doing. Anyone else notice though that the calender thing is called "calender" not ical? that alone tips me off it's fake, why would apple make two apps to do the same thing?

The "new" itunes GUI is too big and confusing.. not their style.

I'll also say i don't buy the safari things either Dave Hyatt once talked about RSS readers in his blog and came to the conclusion that RSS readers and Browsers should remain seperate... and while i know he's the rendering engine programmer not the app designer, and it was a while ago i think he has significant influence and the reaction was bad too.

Also i'd expect safari 2.0 to offer much more than 2 new features... if anything it would be safari 1.5 apple doesn 't jump numbers like that without a major overhaul (we're still at mail 1.3.8!)

Combine all this with the blatent typographic errors, un-apple like wording on things like "stealth mode" i just done buy it.

Apple is about wowing people with features not leaving them dissapointed.

Or just a guess based on postings/patents over the last couple of months ;)

Didnt anyone notice the Brushed Metal menubar in the gadget screenshot? Thats a major change... Maybe we can get inconsistense all over the Finder now? That would be nice.. As it is now, its major p00...

I say that they are all fake.

It's not brushed metal, its just the semi-transparent window that expose uses when you minimise the windows. Coupled with the heavy losses caused by the jpeg compression and yes it does look semi-metal.
