The World Clock is something I need. I don't like to go to my old Handspring visor just to get times in different cities. I also don't like doing the math in my head every time I'm trying to figure out the time in Toronto when it's 10:39am in/near Sydney.
The calender is another thing. A calender should actually appear every time you click on the Date feature on the bar at the top of the screen.

Isn't there a shareware World Clock?

A 64-bit processor has an upper limit of about 18 million terabytes... (32-bit = 0.0043 terabytes... 64-bit = 18,000,000 terabytes).

That's speaking ONLY in terms of 64-bits vs. 32-bit... that has nothing to do with the architecture of the specific processors. I think I'm correct in suggesting that Apple used a 40-bit memory address rather than 64-bit since we're not going to need 18 million terabytes of memory anytime soon... The 40-bit address allows up to 1 terabyte of memory.

I think that is enough for most of us at the moment.
G5 has a 42bit physical address space for addressing memory and 48 bit virtual space. The G4 has a 36 bit address space or 64GB. The current memory cap is neither the G4 or G5's, it is OS X's VM subsystem. It is technically possible for Apple to allow the G4 to address >4GB up to 64GB per process as well.

so, yeah.... unconfirmed.. but a whole lot of trouble to fake.. dashboard appears very un-Apple... at least the styles do. The concept seems cool.

Yeah, this **** looks completely bull.

I said before these are real, and they are.

The quicktime icon is telling you that is real - do you really think they would go to the effort of redesigning bloody icons if they were fake? Added to this the fact that we have already had info that Quicktime 7 is going to be a big leap.

I also know the person that leaked these, and they are in deep **** at apple now. They may lose their job because of this.

Oh, another thing... on my age -- I'm 15, not 16 -- but I don't think that should really intefere with your judgement. I just know the person that leaked these and they would tell me if they leaked fakes, but they didn't own up and I know that he would if they were.

Also -- the GNAA reference is just a joke. It's making a satire out of sterotypes. Ignore it and just laugh.

poop on a stick

I can't believe it took 6 pages before someone noticed that the new "iTunes" says "iTunes not running"! This just goes to show that it is merely a controller for the real iTunes app and apparently the REAL iTunes isn't running. I have personally downloaded several apps that control iTunes in the background, I'm sure there are konfabulator widgets that do the same.

It's fake ....or I'm switching to windoze

Congratulations, aldo. For your steadfast adherence to "teh facts" in the face of hundreds of sceptical Mac fanbois you will not fail it come Monday.

nice eye for typography!

The PDF readme is a fake.

The typeface is not Apple's standard Myraid typeface. Enuff said.

It has one of the most common typographical error not seen in Apple's literature - The Apostrophe Menace.

Good eye there, the proofer at my work would be proud!

Also one of my personal pet peeves appears on the "Stealth Firewall" image, where two hyphens with spacing on either side replace a single em (long) dash.

" -- " is for people with typewriters, not the advanced typography engine built into OS X.

Tiger WILL be 64 bit.....
Apple would have to compile a 32bit version.. otherwise LOTS of people will be pissed off.

EDIT:
Additionally, if they dropped G3 support, then surely they would drop G4 support also.. since there are both 32bit processors.

If your going to have a 64bit OS, then the G4 wouldn't be supported either.. and that would just not happen...

If you can support G4s... then you can support G3 too.. An OS really does not need altivec (or however you spell it).

Arn,

You got wooped this time. That's what you get for taking so much time off and doing other things.

Oh, and zweigand, I hope you enjoy patching your web browser after this Monday.
I'm just foolin' ...the only way those screenshots are real is if you were now able to customize the GUI (and for individual apps)

some people will buy into anything

So out of character...

..this whole posting is so unlikely that I wonder if Arn is himself today?

Could there be more than one Arn, perhaps 'he' is just a login name used by a number of people to hide their real identity from Apple Legal.

Let the "Is Arn really Arn?" thread commence

(yes, I am joking)

You know, people, both a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of Mac OS X is likely to fit onto a DVD, given that not EVERYTHING is 32-bit or 64-bit (pictures and the like)

Prefs search--could be handy and I like the look of the top bar--but rounded boxes (or some icons just vanishing) would be a more Apple-like highlight. I'm skeptical, even if the shots are faked based on real features.

The Dashboard shot? What a PERFECT use for Page 2 :)

BUT good fun anyway :D Tiger's the big news on Monday. How could we miss out on arguing over fake screenshots?

why would I fake I had the public beta and take the trouble to look there. It's not hard to get, you just fill in a quetionaire on the site and give feedback on the form they like and you get chosen to download it. No big deal.

Really? Please post a link! I would LOVE to be an Apple beta-tester, but I thought that it was something much more tricky and required some cash as well. This link request is open to ALL members too, don't be shy! How do I become a Tiger beta-tester?

Haha, not Tiger beta test...just beta tester for the spoken interface. Well I guess it's one part of Tiger so your misunderstanding wasn't totally incorrect ;)

A very detailed fake?

Note the "PDF Producer" - this is for the screenshots

That field is fixed in a couple of seconds using resorcerer or another datafork editor, and can be set as anything. Since that info is in cleartext in the pdf-file, the "proof" is weak to say the least ;)

Why do we need Dashboard when we already have the Dock? Why is it the Dock and the Dashboard both remind me of Easy Access? :p

I have an idea: Why not put aliases to your commonly used apps right on the desktop? Then you can launch them anytime you want! :D Oh right, I did that already, in Mac OS 7, 8 and 9.

Any way we can get rid of the dock permanently? Not to mention, choose colors and fonts for the menu bar, windows, etc. OS/2 had the best way - open a font palette and drag a font to where you want the font to change; open a color palette and drag a color to where you want the color to change. And they had that around 1990... I thought Apple was supposed to be the leader in user-friendliness? :-/

I agree! The Mac OS, elegant and simple as it is......GETS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOOOOOOOOOORING AFTER A WHILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And there are so few available options built into the OS itself to customize it...sad times.
