I can't believe this conversation has even continued. They're fake. Move on. You only have to wait for another few days for the real deal to be previewed. Why are people still discussing fake pictures? I can see why MacRumours would be targeted by groups like this. They know there are enough suckers who will play along.

Some aspects will be 64 bit optimised.

Actually... It WILL have a complete 64 bit kernel.... Im 100% sure of this.

I was told G3's would probably not be supported at all.

The only thing I couldnt find out was how they were going to handle G4's

My best guess on G4 support is the installer must be able to detect CPU type and install the appropiate kernel... whether 32 bit or 64.

All Fake I tell you!

I say these are fake.

The read me looks real, because it probably was real apple Read me,just for another product. There is very little in there that specifically references tiger..I think someone talk another Another read me and just modified it slightly.

Or look at the system preferences. Not a singly newly named control panel? Come on! We all know that Apple loves to rearrange the System preferences at any chance they get.

There is no mention of the new universal access features we know are coming (If Steve's word means anything today) such as the built in screen reader and dramatically improved speech stuff.

And while I would not put it past Apple to rip off Konfabulator and make something that resembles this "Dashboad" it would at least look really cool, which this does not.

I say someone had a few evening of Photo-shoping and is jerking off to seeing there images around the web. These are fake.

Why do I get the impression from this comment, maybe an incorrect one, that this is going to be a simple "filler" to keep the yearly OS X profits rolling in while they work on the real "next big thing"

No big changes? No way. This comment just makes me think these are FAKE!

I think they are real!

Not one to believe what I read and see in the press, internet or TV, I have to tell you to me these are legit. All of you pointing out minor errors, like inconsistency with capitals and lower case text must remember Tiger will not be unleashed for months. Did anyone else notice the top white menu strip of the Finder screenshot now has a metal look? This makes perfect sense with Apple's move to brushed metal hardware. How cool is it that there is a computer company that integrates the hardware and software to such a degree. These are real, I'm sure of it.

Seriously guys, I could have done a better fake myself in 20 mins with illustrator. They are faketabulous. Do I really have to demonstrate?

Reminds me a bit of the iWalk in its fakenesss. Only these fakes don't propose to do *anything* really cool.

I think there will be g3 support...

I don't think so. Apple only discontinued its last g3 based product with the introduction of the iBook g4 in Oct. 2003. Assuming that Tiger comes out in Oct 04, this means that Apple would not be supporting Machines that were only a year old. I would accept no g3 support for 10.5, but not 10.4...

I have seen someone surf in to my website using a version of Safari significantly further up in "build" numbers than what is publicly available. This usually happens right before a new Mac OS X update of some kind.

I won't say exactly what the number was (and it only happened once that I saw) in case someone makes up a fake image with that or similar number as "proof." And since there is no screenshot of Safari in these 10.4 "leaks" I can't tell if this info is really real or not.

I find it odd, however, that there are no new Control Panels at all. Apple always seems to be tweaking those things, changing em around and adding one or two new ones in major releases.

And the widget stuff seems kind of out of place, looks like someone took Konfabulator and made up some stuff real quick.

I dunno. Without that Safari build number, I'd say fake.

According to the Acrobat 6 Pro, the pdfs metadata reads as:

Created: 11/6/2004
Application: TextEdit
PDF Producer: Mac OS X 10.3.4 Quartz PDFContext

Of course, this could mean, that the file was sent to arn as a TextEdit file, and then he saved it as a PDF for online.

If Arn did this, then why would he wait more than a week to post the images?

gadgets...

The gadgets look pretty amateurish. I would be ashamed to demo that...

I thought the iTunes gadget looks kind of neat; how it incorporates the look of the iPod scroll wheel. But what does "iTunes Not Running" mean? When the current version of iTunes is in its widget form it either has just an Apple logo or the info for whatever track was just played. Saying "iTunes Not Running" seems like having a widget that says "Your Computer Is On" or something else that is totally superfluous.

I am really excited to hear about Tiger, but I think these are fake screenshots.

Colour and fun in Mac OSX? NEVER!! That colourful dashboard would never fly with the Mac crowd, and Apple knows that. If we wanted to use WinXP, we wouldn't have bought a Mac. ;)

And that spelling mistake makes all of this look suspicious.

The one thing I like is the dashboard idea, where they'll hopefully include something that allows me to see the temperature outside in my city, and a World Clock. The World Clock is something I need. I don't like to go to my old Handspring visor just to get times in different cities. I also don't like doing the math in my head every time I'm trying to figure out the time in Toronto when it's 10:39am in/near Sydney.
The calender is another thing. A calender should actually appear every time you click on the Date feature on the bar at the top of the screen.

Funny you should mention that. There just happens to be a great app to do just this. It's called wClock.

Nonsense. Apple sold G3s until a few months ago. They are hardly going to drop support in their next OS revision. I can see early G3s not being suported, like the ones in the recent G3 lawsuit.

3) Typographical errors are common in betas - all the previous developer previews of OSX have had spelling mistakes.

I think this is a good point. Several people have mentioned that the spelling mistakes "prove" that this is fake.

I remember when .mac was in the works, there were some people, either here or on another site (it was before I signed up for macrumors.com), that were positive it was a fake because of the inconsistiency between the capital and lowercase m. If you look in your system preferences and click on ".Mac", there is STILL the inconsistency between .mac in the logo and .Mac elsewhere.

Apple is very good about avoiding typos and formatting inconsistencies, but especially at the beta stage I would assume there have to be some that need to be tweaked. And are there really no mistakes currently in Panther in any of the alert messages, help, etc.? (I've noticed one or two when the OS is in French.)

I am NOT saying these images are real, just saying that mistakes/inconsistencies do not prove they're fake.

Please excuse my ignorance

I'll apologize first for probably asking a dumb question, but what's the big deal about an OSX update? I"m new at this whole "computer" thing, so I don't understand all of your modern technology so I'm scared and confused. But really, why all the hype over a most-likely fake set of Tiger screen shots? I could care less. I really get excited when a new app (like garageband or an update of logic or Protools) is released, but why should I be amped about Tiger?

The firewall options seem the most fake to me, and the description of this supposed "stealth mode" sounds like it was written by some scifi obsessed nerdy teenager! Trying so sound all cool about it, puuuuuuuhleeeez

right now i would state fake cause you know how much we like to looks for the fun ways to prove its fake. on the stealth page they left the period off the middle statement, while the top and bottom ones do have it. yes its small but could easily be a typo if someone worked this up.

An engineer with a sense of humour usually creates things in Mac OS X. I wouldn't rule it out as being fake simply because its slightly strange. Who knows, it could have been a practical joke.

hm, we need someone to grab their install discs and see where the originals come from.

The Readme file is exactly the same as the readme file of the Panther developer preview. The word "Panther" has been replaced with "Tiger", "Jaguar" has been replaced with "Panther". Everything else is still the same including the graphics. I have just compared it myself.

I don't know if that means that someone has faked this or if Apple has indeed copied the file because this developer preview has the same issues as the Panther developer preview from last year. I really hope it's fake, however.
