I know it says in the tech specs that Snow Leopard will work with an Intel processor but I NEED to ask this ... Does that include the 32-bit Core Duo processors of the early 2006 Macbook/Macbook Pros ??

Answer: Yes, it will be supported under any Mac with an Intel processor.
 
Only Appletards can call a 64-bit system platform that was top of the line 2.5 years ago "ancient cruft." You do realize that the 32-bit Intel Macs are older than that? In fact, 32-bit Intel architecture is older than PowerPC itself!

Agree with the points I delete about PPC being a viable platform for the most part. Apple could have had a mobile PPC chip if they wanted to pay for it (just like Microsoft and Sony). x86 not only does boot camp but also virtualization from several vendors. An additional point though on x86 is that there are two viable alternative suppliers ( Intel and AMD ) with enough business to keep them both going pretty easily. There is direct competition.
Apple isn't big enough to keep two vendors going.

However, back to what I quoted. Not being killed off because of capability more so because of numbers sold.

While the Core Solos are older there are likely more of them to justify building 32-bit versions of all of the core apps. Similarly since Apple sells far more phones/pods they can get their own chip development team. Again it is cost amortized over larger numbers. ( ironic though now have bought more PPC technology and still not going to use it. )

Since this is not priced as a major upgrade perhaps Apple will announce that they are extended support for Leopard longer for the machines that got toasted (or shafted; depending upon your point of view whether Apple should stand up to their support expectations ) here. For example Leopard still gets critical fix upgrades after the follow on to SL comes along. Hmm, wonder if they are going to kill off 10.4 critical fixes after SL launches (so likewise don't prune off older stuff from critical updates because the "newer" one is out. )

Depends a bit upon if Apple is pricing this at $29 so get folks from Leopard -> Snow Leopard or trying to kill off everything less than 10.5 as fast as possible.
 
If you want to wipe your HDD and install Snow Leopard on a clean drive, you insert the SnowLeopard upgrade DVD, begin installing. It won't find Leopard so it'll ask you for the Leopard DVD. Insert it to verify, it'll eject it and ask to re-insert the SnowLeopard DVD.... and proceed the installation as usual.

... at least that's how I think it will work. :D

Hmm... maybe. Still not as straightforward as I'd hope it to be, but better.
 
That's weird someone wanted iChat to support MSN. I just tried to do that, and it doesn't. Everyone uses MSN, wish iChat could add them.
 
Dammit. I guess it was too much to ask for OpenCL to support a 3yo graphics card (X1600). Guess it's time to sell the MBP.
Pages ago I mentioned the need for unified shaders. You're looking at a bare minimum the HD 2xxx or a GeForce 8 Series.

the only reason microsoft can't charge $29 for software is because software is their own money-maker. Apple makes their bucks on hardware, not software. So for Apple, $29 isn't a big deal

Apple should run "OS Hunters" commercials.

Wouldn't really be effective, since most people don't get their OS from retail. They get them from the OEM, which are far cheaper than retail, anyway.

And the 'Laptop Hunters' ads aren't misleading, at least as to what people really pay? I say if MS is gonna hammer Apple on price alone, one good turn deserves another.

Question, does Quicktime X playback DivX? Didn't catch if it did or not.

If it doesn't it will. Standart procedure: OS gets released and every developer or company makes their software compatible.
