Apple :apple: Store online is down @ 5:00am; perhaps the pre-order for SL will greet us in about an hour or two?

Yeah, it's worldwide down, not just a single country etc.

I hope the homepage will change to a countdown and a pre-order button on the store.

Can't wait!

I'm surprised Apple picked today to bring the store down... I thought, for sure Apple would make the announcement on a Friday or Tuesday... not Monday.

Well guys, a month before expected. If anyone is interested, it might be interesting to get people getting some benchmarks for their systems on Leopard, and then on Snow Leopard over time. Any thoughts?

no more student discount ):

i will not be upgrading. i can't afford to now that i have to buy a box set at full retail / (tiger user).

my cheapest option would actually be buying leopard with the student discount, and then do the 29 thing. hmmm maybe i might!

So if they are doing a different disk for upgraders from leopard, does that mean that you will have to have leopard installed to use it? As in, if I want to do a fresh re-install later on for some reason, will I have to reinstall leopard then install snow leopard?

I was going to upgrade through the Up-To-Date program, and actually already ordered my box. But I just discovered from the program people on the phone that the up-to-date customers won't be getting their copies on Friday. They will ship the copies friday via USPS and are giving a delivery window of 7-10 business days. Seriously considering canceling my order and just paying the $20 extra bucks to get it at the retail store Friday.

I have just ordered the family pack license. Here in Germany it costs 29 Euro for the single and 49 Euro for the family pack. I find this highly unfair as the Euro is worth much more than the Dollar at the moment. I can not understand this price politic of Apple.

Well, Snow Leopard is build in USA, so it may has taxes, etc :p

Is there not even a discount on the higher education site? Haven't been able to check

Apple always have higher prices in Europe, even before taxes. Snowie is about 36 dollars taxes excluded and 45 dollars included here in Sweden.

I just called apple. They said the $29 disk is for upgrading only. It will not allow you to wipe the drive and install.

he further said that if you want to wipe your drive in the future, you will have to use the Leapord disk that came with your mac, then use the upgrade disk again.

If you want the full install and wipe capability, you will need to buy the box set.

Straight from their mouth.

You can still do the wipe via Disk Utility. At least I think you might be able to.

I'm really annoyed at this, but it probably won't matter for me because I rarely reinstall a computer's OS.

Also looks like the last seed (was it 10A437?) is the GM. I'm still on the fence about installing it immediately. What do you think?

EDIT: Looks like we're getting the snow leopard on our DVDs. I also noticed the space freed up has increased from 6 GB to 7 GB. I'm also interested to see how much better Safari 4 will be. During the keynote, Google Maps was instantaneous.

EDIT 2: Looks like iTunes is still stuck in 32-bit.

Its still a PIA to have to keep track of multiple disks, do multiple installs..

I hope others call to see if they get told the same story.

im waiting for others to try regardless.
