Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - What, Where, When, Why & How much

Well guys, a month before expected. If anyone is interested, it might be interesting to get people getting some benchmarks for their systems on Leopard, and then on Snow Leopard over time. Any thoughts?

Not really a month, it's only 3 days before Sept 1st.

Depends on what the benchmarks are, I doubt we'll see anymore than 1-5% difference in most benchmarks. The responsiveness of the OS will show a difference.

So, t0mat0, I guess soon you'll going to have to create the Mac OS X 10.7 thread.

It's four days before release, and someone has it. As long as it isn't stolen, I don't have a problem with it. But I suspect it to be stolen, so I reported it.

I'll be honest I cannot think of a reason to upgrade. Nothing jumps out at me as something I need.

But I know I'll be the first in the queue to get it. Just the way it is I suppose.

The Put Back feature of the trash is by itself enough reason to get me to upgrade. However, there are also vast speed improvements (at least on my iMac) that are another good reason to upgrade. However, I might wait for 10.6.1 or later...

I've already placed my pre-order with Apple.com since the local reseller won't receive the disks for a few weeks. Hopefully it gets here early before company arrives this weekend!

I'm sorry if this has been addressed, but what well known re-sellers will have Snow Leopard on Friday? I'm hoping Best Buy as there is one near my house. If you order Snow Leopard from Apple or Amazon, is it expected that delivery would be on Friday?

My guess - Best Buy probably won't have it at launch, and Amazon probably won't get it to you on the 28th.

Fact - Ordering from Apple by Wednesday guarantees you'll have it on the 28th.

Apple says it'll "deliver by August 28th." That means you get it on the 28th. I can't find it anymore (maybe it was in the cart section), but I read that ordering by Wednesday guarantees you'll get it on the 28th.

quick q while i'm here, if i do a full time machine backup before i do a clean insstall will i just be able to put photoshop back in from time machine or will i need to reinstall ps from the install disc?

These sort of things usually get shipped FedEx..So it depends on when the FedEx guy visits your neighborhood.

I'd ship this stuff USPS so it would get to your house faster.

It JUST came to pre-ordering today... guess what I did? I pre-ordered it!! First thing I have pre-ordered ever

I JUST bought my MBA so it was really cheap ($10.60 total for me) I am excited as the OS is supposed to be SOOOO MUCH better, and quicktime X is supposed to be freakin awesome :O
