Sounds good to me if true. The current look does look dated and I am sure this is part of Apple's long term efforts to educate and familiarize the public in all things iOS/Touch.

Okay maybe I'm missing it but what's the point of rubber-banding? I mean from a functional point of view. I get that it's fun to play with on the iPhone et al. but it doesn't seem to serve any practical purpose.

Inertial scrolling on the other hand, works very well on the desktop and I'm glad they added it. The extra momentum takes me where I want to go and I can stop it at any time. When I scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and it just hits a "hard stop", I expect it, because that's the end of the page. I don't see why going past the end is helpful, there's no content there.

How could such a random minor detail like that leak but nothing else?

Seems strange.

Makes sense, current scroll bars are starting to look very dated.

I don't care how the scroll bars look, it's the ease of functionality I like.
This migration to the iOS for the overall operating system is a mistake.

uh oh, the nerds who fear change will come out of the woodwork

sounds good to me. Apple are (OBVIOUSLY) far better at interface design than I/we are, so I'm sure it will be a nice evolutionary change, just like most changes to OS X have been

don't be nerds, guys

Hell yes! :D Can't wait for tomorrow!

That said, I'm sure there will be endless bitching about this. Cue the "OMG APPLE IS DEAD :mad::mad:" crowd.

The Aqua UI is very dated. Everyone bitched when they brought in brushed metal, they bitched when they brought in Unified, and now they'll bitch when they bring in (whatever the name of this new UI is called). They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Hope the Scrollbar rumor is true. The original Aqua look is disappearing. The scrollbar is the only component to retain the candy appearance in some applications. It looks so out of place now. Not having it stand out would be a good thing. Your content should stand out, not the scrollbar. I don't think anyone uses it anymore anyway. I scroll exclusively with the multitouch trackpad or magic mouse. It should just exist in a simplified way for the visual cue. The view could be dragged for those who have old input devices.

I don't see the point if they put Rubber bands on the Mac version, iPhone fine but its pointless on the Mac. although having it disappear is a nice feature, and the momentum scrolling is to

pointless? don't you think when you see it in action/use it, you will understand it's "point"?

has steve jobs ever been a guy to add extra pointless fluff for no reason?

I highly doubt this is true, but if it is, I think its a step backwards..

I don't know why everyone is so afraid of iOS. I mean look at how far it has come in the last three years. There was a point that we thought we were never going to get even copy and paste, let alone multitasking. What is iOS going to look like five years from now? It could very well exceed the functionality of OSX today.

Yeah I agree, I don't mind if it disappears, and appears when u put your pointer near the scroll bar..

Scroll bars are "big news"?

Scroll bars are an example of iOS coming to Mac?

Hardly.

This is the beginning of the end folks. The iOS interface appears dated and this is actually a step backwards.

Says you?

If Apple don't announce a freaking awesome new Final Cut or something about OSX. 7 that benefits the pro market, i may just buy a windows PC.

Apple is greying out everything, it's started with iTunes now there going to do it to safari. Even tho there is no real collie to safari exept the page u are looking at I tend to prefer the current scroll bars

I'm a big Apple fan but I agree, why are we going from bright colors to gray-scale in iTunes and now possibly finder. Why not let the people who want to use the itunes sidebar in color have that option?

same thing happens in every industry: cars, guitars, audio equipment...everything

everyone wants something new and then when the company they're fan-boying over delivers, they complain

and then some dumbass like me chimes in and wastes time offering a counterpoint for no good reason

Me thinks we should condemn everything before they release it.
That way nobody is disappointed!

We have all worked with OSX so far, so why is this even a big deal?

10.7 is hopefully faster than I can click and type. How and where is only a matter of learning.

Mac since 1984, plenty of changes all for the better so far and downright amazing what we get for the same of 1/2 the money.

Let's whine some more, maybe uncle Steve will have mercy and go back in time, geez:)

Im having a few friends over for the event...

As long as that doesn't make them touch control only, that's fine. And as long as there is a shortcut to get to the bottom as there STILL isn't in iOS. For instance subscribed thread emails from MacRumors list posts in chronological order - and one usually wants to read the most recent, miles down the page and leading to a sore scrolling finger.

As for a new Quick Look interface ... well they could hardly make it worse/less UI compliant, so that has to be a good thing. More interested in the new hardware at the moment tbh.

Window resizing in Windows was mentioned earlier. One BIG one from Windows 7 that I would love in OS X is the global Explorer window sizing - e.g. go to Computer and set size and layout of the window, close, and now EVERY window will open like that ... except in the case of 7's most annoying attempts to dictate how I want certain files laid out.

At least I can pretty much rest assured that my pet peeves will remain, as they've been around since '05 - iTunes dashboard widget, anyone?

Another funny one dating back to System 7 at least is the Finder command 'Show Clipboard' that doesn't change when the clipboard is at the front ... on that note they sure could improve clipboard functionality!

ios scroll bars would be ridiculous in OSX if they disappeared when not in use, I could understand it in a small device like the iphone where space is a premium, but on a mac this isn't a problem, at the moment you can tell in a glance where abouts you are in the document and how long the document is, why take this functionality away?

first iTunes, now :apple: wants to make everything else look GREY and dull in OSX it seems, dissapointed :( I guess the future :apple: screens are going to be Retina Display in B&W!

To everyone who is complaining that Mac OS is becoming dull and grey, the idea is to focus on the content of whatever you're looking at and not the chrome around it. Considering Steve's focus on minimalism and content, this really shouldn't come as that much of a surprise.
