rubber band page rebounding when scrolling past the top and bottom of the page = good

reducing the on-screen width of the scroll bars without losing any functionality = good

messing around with quicklook = I'm trepidacious. Quicklook is one of my favorite computer features ever. The only thing I'd change about it is to let it keep playing media when you click away from the quicklook window, and to make it not lose its place when you navigate around and then come back to the quicklook'ed window place you started from initially. But other than those 2 changes, I find it hard to imagine any other changes to quicklook that would be good changes.

Bring back Aqua! :apple:

what the band? LOL!

I'm all for the minimalistic scrollbars. Now that Microsoft has completely cribbed the decade-old glassy look from OS X (they call it "Aero" instead of "Aqua" - see the innovation?), it's time to dump it and move on. Microsoft needs something new to copy for their next Windows revision.

Since I got a Magic Mouse I rarely click the scrollbar anyway.

I'd just like to see some UI consistency in 10.7. Why should scrollbars look different in iTunes than they do in Pages? They shouldn't.

Pick a look, Apple, and go with it. Please.

As Steve Jobs would say, "Troll different."

Aero > Aqua
But yea, I would also like to see some consistency throughout the entire OS, instead of per-application basis. All the buttons, scroll bars, etc. really should look the same.

Congrats Apple...

...I have to stand up and applaud the security team of Mac OS X development. We're less than 24 hrs away from a major debuting OS (according to the hint on the invitation it will be a 10.7 LION preview)...

...and the only rumor we hear are MF scroll bars.

I honestly would love to either:
a) give Aqua a modern and slim refresh
b) let it rot in hell

If those scrollbars become real - great.
Now how about getting Spotlight back to 10.4 features?
How about resolution independence (oh - we heard it all before)?
How about giving ZFS or another filesystem some love?

Honestly - if all we got to discuss about are friggin scrollbars - then JEEBUS, the rumor mill is dry!

Did I miss this in OS4, in the picture it looks like the phone is linked to a time capsule for backup or is that for syncing to Mob Me.

I think the reason for this change (if its implemented) is that most users will not actually use the scroll bar, but choose to scroll using a scroll ball mouse or multi touch device to scroll...

This method of scrolling really makes having a constant visual scrollbar redundant.

That symbol indicates that the portrait screen is locked and can not be switched to landscape

Haha, I have to agree! I find it funny that we're discussing scroll bars here. :D

But as for them, I'm not against seeing something else there.

So basically they would do away with the scroll bar!? It's kind of nice knowing where you are on the page... Plus what if you want to grab the scroll bar and move it down? I can't see Apple adding this iOS feature to Mac OSX. People with 3rd party mice with no scroll wheel would be a bit upset lol

Good point. An always-visible scroll bar is a de facto progress meter.

Also, I never use the dock in disappearing mode. I hate have to wait even a half second for something to appear before I can click on it. I want instantaneous clickability, at least where docks (and scrollbars) are considered.

So in short...I'm not down with disappearing scroll bars. Assuming that's even part of the OS. ;)

I agree. And that would also make the rubber banding more intuitive here, although I can understand those using a mouse. But if using a touchpad or the Magic Trackpad, it basically already feels like using iOS, so as for those input devices they can just as well make it more iOS like for all I care.

This is the beginning of the end folks. The iOS interface appears dated and this is actually a step backwards.

If I had a penny for every time someone has said that about Apple since Steve Jobs returned, and been wrong, I'd have...a LOT of pennies.

I'm beginning to think that most users don't realize that you can grab the scroll bar to quickly move to anywhere in the file, something you can't do with a scroll ball/wheel/stroke.

Other than that, you can certainly get rid of the scroll arrow buttons and the ability to click above/below the scroll bar for up/down page. Those are redundant.

The problem is if they get rid of the Aqua scroling bar then they also need to do something about the top url bar which has Aqua color when going to another site.

ALL will be proved wrong tomorrow. Also, the scrollbars in iOS are there for one reason and one reason only, to save screen real-estate and to scroll.

Am just hoping this does NOT happen though.

first iTunes, now :apple: wants to make everything else look GREY and dull in OSX it seems, dissapointed :( I guess the future :apple: screens are going to be Retina Display in B&W!

What do you want to focus on when you use a computer? Is it your content, or a big, colorful UI?

Monochrome means that you are free to see your content without being distracted by the UI.

I imagine an iOS scroll bar in OS X to be much like the scroll bar used in Tweetie for Mac. Very similar to the iOS scroll bar but slightly thicker so you can select it.

Or you could say iTunes scrollbars. Whatever the current iTunes looks like is what the next version of OS X will look like. It's been that way for 10 years.
