MacBook 2.0GHz 2GB RAM

Very nice! Safari, Mail, really fast. As a whole, the system is much more snappy. I opted for the erase & install to get rid of all the excess wasted files. I too am having the problem of DMGs not ejecting correctly. Press the button and they stick around in Finder.

My first two attempts to install Leopard failed...But now it works GREAT and is
AWSOME!!!!! I love spaces and Time Machine is really cool and I know will come in handy!:D:D:D:D:D:apple:

Quick Look is the Best Computing Innovation. Ever.

I finished a clean (erase) install a couple hours ago and have been using Leopard (with nary a problem) since then.

I was playing with Time Machine, spaces (having four screens on two monitors is great—Ubuntu linux on one, Windows XP on another, Web dev apps on another, Debian server on another, and more screens to spare is GREAT!), and all the other headline features, but one feature is completely amazing in its utility and execution: Quick Look!

Quick Look is always instantaneous (at least, on all the Macs I've tried it on so far), and it recognizes most any file. And being able to instantly go through a ton of files, previewing each one how you like (small or full screen) is genius! What a great feature.

I was worried by some other posts that the transparent menu bar would be annoying, but it really isn't at all.

Also, the new iChat is EXTRAORDINARY. Screen Sharing is worth upgrading for me, because I already shared with two guys today and showed them how to set up their Leopard Mail installation on our network!

And the dock's reflectivity is a nice touch. Everything is so polished!

Finally, everything (and yes, I mean EVERYTHING) is faster. Photoshop, Word, Safari, Mail, iCal, Dreamweaver, Parallels, iPhoto, iChat, and Address Book, to name a few apps, are all noticably faster. Do I regret the upgrade? Not one bit. I'm loving it so far! The intro video was icing on the cake; does anyone know where that actual video file is? I'd like to see it again!

--Problem is, you CANT open specific ports...you must associate them with certain applications etc....it seems like apple took away some functionality and configuration with this....

Yeah - this really threw me for a loop, It looks so intimidating now! I'd rather have the old interface back.

On my 8-core Mac Pro:

I just installed Leopard and did a clean install and it took under 8 minutes to do it completely. Is that a record?

So far, no problems ... installing Final Cut Studio 2 now ...

Lol... I have never heard of ANY operating system doing an install in 8 minutes! Wow. :)

it wasn't quite 8 minutes for me, but it was the fastest os x install i've ever experienced. i dilly-dallied for a couple minutes, took a shower, and it was done by the time i dried off.

Try using the Disk Utility. It works ok

I have that problem in Tiger on my Macbook. Not just DMG's but hard disks and CD's as well. It happened a lot more when i first got it, now it doesn't happen as much. Not sure why that is, but definitely not a Leopard problem.

I got Leopard today and did a complete installation in my Macbook Pro. I'm still seeing how it runs in my computer. I see that the scale effect for the app and windows is sometime slow... will bring more feedback tomorrow

Yeah, I thought so too, until I made the mistake of trying to open a PSD with it - Finder crashes every time on about half of my PSDs. It's very odd, and appears to be random, but Preview chokes on these PSDs which means that QuickView and CoverFlow can't read them either, which in turn means that if I make the mistake of browsing certain folders in CoverFlow view, Finder crashes every time. Very frustrating!!!

I uploaded one of the trouble PSDs to my site, you can download it here. But be advised, using QuickView on this PSD will crash Finder. In my case it fires right back up, pretty much instantly, but you may not be so lucky. Better still, try opening the file in Photoshop and you'll see that it's just a single-layer, basic file. WTF?

The update should fix this, but it comes in December! Thank god I no longer use PS :)

I've been playing around with time machine, and found that time machine isn't iTUnes aware in the same way that say, address book is. That is to say, if you go into address book and type in the search box for a contacts name, then click time machine it will search your backups for that contact, if you do similar in iTunes, launching time machine just brings up the finder.
I suspect a new version (maybe 7.5) of itunes is just around the corner.

No, the update I think you're referring to is from Adobe and will address Adobe's software. Whether you've got Adobe's software installed or not is irrelevant (in this case) as the problem lies with Preview (and in turn QuickView ---> CoverFlow ---> Finder) ... This is a problem Apple needs to address, as the problem lies with Apple's software. ;)

Quick Look

doe's quick look work in column view? ---if i select a file in column view then hit the space bar, will it open in QL ?---

thanks

Just a tip for those of you with mousewheels on your mice (that's pretty much everyone, right?) ... If you use Steermouse you can map the mousewheel button to Spacebar, just for Finder. So anytime you click on an icon on your desktop (or anywhere else in Finder) all you have to do is middle-click to show QuickView, and a second middle click anywhere on the screen to hide it.

:D

i'm still not totally sold on time machine yet. i haven't messed with it enough to figure out it's options. it DOES seem a bit like overkill though the way it backs up so often. it would seem to me at least that you could somehow set a schedule of backups. i guess my concern is that it will hog system resources by backing up so often.

i will say this- i did an archive and install when i first got leopard today. i wanted to see the performance difference between an archive and a clean install so i erased and installed and used my fresh time machine backup to migrate my prefs, apps, etc back in and it DID work great. all my apps work and it preserved all my settings.

as far as the install. the archive method did well, but i did notice a little stuttering here and there. after a couple restarts it ran very well. being a OCD tinkerer is what prompted me to try an erase and install. the erase and install went very quickly and the spotlight indexing went much faster. overall i feel the performance of the erase and install is better.

so if you aren't feeling it after an upgrade or archive- backup up everything via time machine. erase and install then use the migration utility to import your stuff back in.

Anyone Else?

I left my BlackBook to perform the Leopard upgrade, but when I returned, I found that the installation had 'failed', and I accidentally closed the log before I had a chance to examine or save it.

I clicked Restart, and my computer restarted successfully, with everything (seemingly) in order.

Should I do another install to make sure everything goes ok? Has this happened to anyone else?
