How about we all calm down a little bit and let Apple focus on what's important, namely shipping all the backordered MacPro's, as opposed to dealing with our complaints.

If Apple has guaranteed a ship date for you that has gone by and nothing has happened, then call them and complain. But if not: do you have any idea what kind of logistical nightmare it must be for them to deal with all these backorders of custom-configured machines? I trust they have worked on an efficient way to work off the backlog, which collectively is in our interest, right?

It hasn't even been 24 hours since the first reports of an 8800GT MacPro shipping surfaced here, so the order in which they have worked so far has extremely little impact on actual wait times. If this went on for a few days, I could better understand your anger, but to claim that you were treated unfairly, just because somebody else's order was shipped a few hours (yes, not days, hours!!!) ago is just ridiculous. Your's may ship, too, before the day is over.

I want my new MacPro to arrive as badly as you guys do, but let's be realistic...

- Martin

1) I do believe as well that people should calm down and focus on the basics: "are they respecting the shipping promised they made me, yes or no?". As the answer looks to be a yes, that's it for me.

2) I frankly can't care less if its a logistical nightmare to deal with custom configured machines: they sell them, they created the backlog, they are a computer company, its their problem. If they cant do it im fine with it, i cant do it either, thats why im not selling them.

3) Like with the AppleTV update, i do understand that its a freakin' nightmare to design an interface...but again...im not selling 300$ revolutionary devices saying that within two weeks i will release an update for them.

4) As Apple gets bigger (from computer to music to phones to movies) it tends to get very corporate, missing deadlines, releasing patches over patches, etc. I believe thats pretty much unavoidable when you get seriously big, but it's always going to come too late the day in which they will stop singing to themsleves that they're "so "different", because fact is, they're not so much anymore. And to me they're rapidly crossing the thin line between being cool and being arrogant.

Bottom line: dont sell what you dont have.

I called Apple concerning the issue and got $150 off "for the inconvenience". Why are some getting money off and some expedited shipping?

The funny thing is after my phone call I looked at my order status and saw that it said shipped Feb. 6th!!!

Then I realized I left the OP's jpeg that was posted to show he was telling the truth open in a different tab. :( Mine still says ships 21st, arrives 27th.

I ordered on the 15th. 8800GT included.

Mine still hasn't shipped.

Talk about disappointment!

Same here. Same status, same "not yet shipped", and still no charge to my credit card.

Man, if there was any day that I checked these boards more than ever, its been in the last 12 hours.

How is that possible that your total is only $2379?!?
The base 2.8 price for the Mac Pro with Student discount is $2599, without any upgrades.

ADC discount = 20% off all hardware.
Mac Pro is the most expensive hardware, so it's got the highest amount of absolute discount. it's all 20%. just amount is more b/c the base is more.

the good thing is, the 8800 card is only 160 with ADC. :D

mine was $2,413 with 8800, and wireless card. :)
paid 100 bucks for the ADC package, but selling the OSX that came with it for 80 bucks.. :D

That actually isn't true - the discount varies considerably depending on what you're buying. Very poor discounts on the macbooks and Macbook Air, as well as the cinema displays. You can go look in the store if you want, but it isn't a straight percentage discount.

The Mac Pro has the best price by far of anything in the ADC store.

If you think that's a deal, an Apple Store employee told me that they get 25% off of everything.

Thanks for the number.

the lady was very helpful.. i just said.. i know i ordered on feb 3rd.. but so what. i want mine shipped!!
ok

$100 off the price, = $109 off b/c of tax savings
overnight delivery

Now i feel better
:D

It's been almost 12 hours and I still can't track my shipment. Anyone else having similar problems?

Mine still says shipping Feb 14th to arrive Feb 15th. 3.2 with 8800, RAID Card and Wireless. Can anyone confirm that they have a 3.2 that has shipped?

I'm curious about that too. My 3.2 (stock+8800, ordered Jan 8) still hasn't shipped. Seems totally plausible that the CPU speed could be a factor in determining who is shipping and who isn't.

No matter how you slice it, this is encouraging news.

I don't think CPU speed has anything to do with it.

I am waiting on a 2.8 w/8800 and WiFi card, and still hasn't shipped yet, or even been prepared for shipment.

I ordered Jan 19th.

Seems totally random

My tracking number doesn't work either. Our boxes are probably just sitting on the dock waiting to get picked up, whether they got build a few hours before or after another one seems irrelevant, they will be shipped out in batches. :(

I am on the phone right now and I'm getting nowhere!

Just "I guess yours is being made with some extra love" as a reason for why it's not shipped yet.

Drat drat drat!

While I do feel a bit guilty calling, I don't think it's really right that some people are getting $100 off while others get free shipping while others get nothing. Either we should all get nothing or we should all get the same something.

Either way, guilt aside, it was worth trying. $100 would have gone really far toward making the guilt go away.

Ordered Jan. 9th and it hasn't shipped yet.
Called today and got 2-day shipping. Yippee.
Stock 2.8 + 8800 + Wifi

Update!

She "spoke with the manager" (online maybe? Heard a lot of typing while I was waiting) and I got upgraded shipping.

My guilt is rapidly fading!

My arrival date updated on apple.com immediately.

just ask for a supervisor.
OR
just say thanks, and hang up
then call back in 5 minutes.. and hope someone else will do it

the lady i called i TOLD her.. hey this is what i'm reading - $100 bucks off, overnight shipping.
she said "hey that's what i was just gonna suggest.... i'll go ahead and do it".

done.

so it's FOR SURE allowed by their Customer service department.

Anyone know how much longer it's going to take to get an order placed through CDW vs. directly through Apple?

When I called Apple the rep told me it should be here tomorrow. Sounds feasible, since its coming from Fullerton, but still...... there is something about the warm and fuzzy one gets with a tracking number... kinda like the adult version of Santa's sleigh. :p:p

Listen, I'm not going to call Apple and ask them to take a dime off my purchase. I just don't think its right.

But I do want them to ship my computer if they can get around to it... still hasn't updated on my end.

Very true, very true! :D I just finished ordering my RAM and HD's with 2-day delivery (pretty affordable).
