How about we all calm down a little bit and let Apple focus on what's important, namely shipping all the backordered MacPro's, as opposed to dealing with our complaints.
If Apple has guaranteed a ship date for you that has gone by and nothing has happened, then call them and complain. But if not: do you have any idea what kind of logistical nightmare it must be for them to deal with all these backorders of custom-configured machines? I trust they have worked on an efficient way to work off the backlog, which collectively is in our interest, right?
It hasn't even been 24 hours since the first reports of an 8800GT MacPro shipping surfaced here, so the order in which they have worked so far has extremely little impact on actual wait times. If this went on for a few days, I could better understand your anger, but to claim that you were treated unfairly, just because somebody else's order was shipped a few hours (yes, not days, hours!!!) ago is just ridiculous. Your's may ship, too, before the day is over.
I want my new MacPro to arrive as badly as you guys do, but let's be realistic...

1) I do believe as well that people should calm down and focus on the basics: "are they respecting the shipping promised they made me, yes or no?". As the answer looks to be a yes, that's it for me.

2) I frankly can't care less if its a logistical nightmare to deal with custom configured machines: they sell them, they created the backlog, they are a computer company, its their problem. If they cant do it im fine with it, i cant do it either, thats why im not selling them.
3) Like with the AppleTV update, i do understand that its a freakin' nightmare to design an interface...but again...im not selling 300$ revolutionary devices saying that within two weeks i will release an update for them.
4) As Apple gets bigger (from computer to music to phones to movies) it tends to get very corporate, missing deadlines, releasing patches over patches, etc. I believe thats pretty much unavoidable when you get seriously big, but it's always going to come too late the day in which they will stop singing to themsleves that they're "so "different", because fact is, they're not so much anymore. And to me they're rapidly crossing the thin line between being cool and being arrogant.
Bottom line: dont sell what you dont have.
