mmmmm...no time....

I updated the EFI, too a few goes before it took, and when I used the reboot into Mac OSX in bootcamp, the time then showed as 00:00 2000, not sure if this is the EFI's fault or mine as the system was locking up with constant hang ups that crossover for games caused. Sometimes when I've booted back into OSX from bootcamp, I've got a grey screen with a no entry sign on it, that requires a hard boot to get past. Other than that everything is just fine!

I would be intrigued to see if the problems are still resolved after a week (really hope they are as I need a new tower). Back in 2005, I got a G5 tower with wake from sleep issues so had to get a replacement. The replacement worked fine for a week sleeping regularly but after came down with the same issue. The scary thing is it just seemed so random. Maybe the first week was just a lucky one ;)

My feeling is it solved the sleep/reboot issue

Hasn't happened since, however to be honest it somehow stopped happening a day before the update...
but still I think it helped... put it to sleep probably about a dozen times since and nothing....

Ok, after a bit of geekery, I know why the update isn't listed.
It has a dependency on the Leopard Graphics Update, which
I haven't installed.

Hello Infrared...

Where did this code from? is is a script in the installer? I wonder if this could be a way to get EFI64 on 07 MP?

Regards,

PCI Express death!

This update has killed my LaCie Dual Channel 3Gb/s SATA II
PCI-Express Card!

Now nothing is listed in ASP other than my graphics card and even with re-installing the driver, restarting and repair permissions I get nothing.

If it had said unplug all third party hardware I would have.

Be warned, unplug everything third party usb/firewire/PCI.

I have not gotten the update yet for my new MBP! Is there something that i am missing? I checked in Software updates, but it says that i am up to date.

Hi.

You need to use 'xar' (or an equivalent) in a terminal to uncompress
the '.pkg' file, and then the whole thing extracts. The actual EFI code
is in a compressed file in a subpackage, IIRC. And I think it's embedded
in a program, but am not entirely sure. I'm geekish, but not *that* geekish :)

Does anyone know if this update fixes any graphical artifacts, pixalation and "graphic freezes" that both 2600 and 8800 users (myself included) has experienced? My Mac Pro is currently in service, so no way to check it.

I don't know (so why am i replying? :) ) but.. the dependence on the
Leopard graphics update might, I guess, make that possible.

I've been thinking about that dependency and.. well.. if this firmware
does require the latest OS X graphics drivers, what happens if you
reinstall OS X? You'll end up reinstalling earlier versions of the gfx
drivers without reinstalling the earlier Boot ROM firmware.

Which graphical artifacts, pixelation, and graphics freezes are you talking about? Do you have a link that details this? I don't think I've ever seen this...

I've found that a few of those issues were due to overheating.

My 8800GT would exhibit this and lock up during games... UNTIL I raised the fan speeds to a still audibly pleasing 1000RPM across the board... and ZERO graphics issues / freezes since.

Is this an OEM Apple 8800GT?

I think hkarlsen is talking about something else, though... He mentioned that it happened with both 2600s and 8800s meaning it's more of a universal issue. You're problem sounds more like an isolated issue with your particular 8800GT.

Yep... OEM 8800GT.

I think Apple has put a premium on *SILENT* computing... and I just wonder how many people's graphics corruption problems, and system stability problems in general would DECREASE if the fans were set higher.

Hard to tell... but I'd sure love to know :)

When did you see these issues? While surfing? While gaming?

My 2600 had these issues and the 2600 firmware update cured them all. It sounds like the same thing you're talking (typing) about. However, someone earlier noted that the firmware update increased power useage by the graphics card, thus increasing the fan speed, thus, making it noisier. Check out the link for more details. I'm just summarizing.

I did the EFI update. My wake from sleep issue has completely disappeared and I sleep my Mac Pro every night. :)

hope this fixes the restart after sleep issue

Edit: So far no restarts even when I do certain things like use parallels or do quick naps. I think she's cured!
Yep, this fixed sleep problem with my Mac Pro. Now everything´s OK. :)
