Agree. Wake up people this is how media works (ref politics)
Monday's article at the Wall Street Journal, which provided confirmation of an Apple tablet device, had all the earmarks of a controlled leak. Here's how Apple does it.

Often Apple has a need to let information out, unofficially. The company has been doing that for years, and it helps preserve Apple's consistent, official reputation for never talking about unreleased products. I know, because when I was a Senior Marketing Manager at Apple, I was instructed to do some controlled leaks.

With respect, I think we're overthinking this with the conspiracy theories,

I'm sure we'll see this guy extolling the virtues of the Mac Pro in a video on release date.

I bet he didn't even think about the non-disclosure when he took that picture and posted it.

Apple reads these forums---they won't be happy about it.

As an aside, it looks ugly as sin.

At least clean the work station up. Jeez. Is that like a bowl of soup on the table to the left?

Gross.

This is free marketing. Calvin Harris is hip and trendy guy who all the cool kids follow on MySpace.
I'm so out of touch with popular culture.

Who is Calvin Harris?

What a messy product placement photo.
It's embarrassing.

Hoping to see an announcement of this and the 16" MBP (which is rumored there are review models already sent out) this Tuesday
That was my thought---Tuesday.

I don't care if it's a slightly oversized 15 inch, as long as it has 1) new gen keyboard and 2) improved screen with whatever they call "XDR" in laptops.

the (lack of) cable management in that screen cap drives me crazy

Apple must be gaining some feedback and insight by giving the Mac Pro to celebrity professionals first?

Still says “Coming this fall” but it’s almost winter.

Winter is coming (I swear I didn't reply just to say that) but it's still a month and half away.

You don't know, Apple might have loaded this with a 32 bit capable OS Catalina, isn't that in the kernel?!

Really a non-argument. Until a few weeks ago, Apple's own website was saying the Mac Pro ran Mojave - now its carefully saying it runs "MacOS" and linking to the Catalina page without explicitly saying that it comes with Catalina.

Considering that (as we're frequently reminded) the Mac Pro is only for Real Pros Who Make Their Living With Their Computer(tm) a lot of the target market should have more sense than to switch to Catalina for a few more months at least. Certainly some key software houses have only very recently announced Catalina-tested versions and there are various bits of hardware that won't ever be supported (see Native Instruments, for example - and Reaktor 6 wasn't on the supported list last time I checked a few weeks ago).

Obviously it can run Catalina (d'oh!) but it would be completely unsurprising if it shipped with Mojave and the option to upgrade.

That’s the 15” model. Stop spreading fake news

Do you see the post? I can’t say that it is the 16 inch MBP as the original poster (the post was banned because of that I think) because I’m not completely sure but I appreciate that the display has thinner bezels.

But, this maybe is important, the video was uploaded october 10th, that’s strange.

Maybe I need glasses

Why would anyone need such a powerful computer just to process audio? Overkill

says someone who's never done it professionally from the sounds of it.

you could say the same thing about graphics professionals, video professionals etc. because to the average customer if you do these things, your not doing them as often and when you do its with smaller file formats, pre-compressed, lower resolutions etc

as soon as you get into the professional arena for most IT and Media industries the computing requirements grow exponentially and time is money.

Well, one thing is certain -- it's running Mojave and not Catalina, since almost every music and audio and video software company has told all their users NOT to upgrade to Catalina; most applications still require 32-bit plug-ins, etc., even if the software itself was 64-bit.

And now that I see it in real-life use, to me it looks rather clunky, not sleek at all like the Mac Pros before the trash can. (Just my own personal tastes.)
yeah, no, most audio plugins are 64bit.

Waves, Toontrack, Arturia, Universal Audio, and Native Instruments plug-ins, virtual instruments, and hardware doesn't work, and that's only a small sampling of companies off the top of my head. There are dozens of others. Press releases have gone out saying their products are not compatible or only partially compatible with Catalina, and updates are forthcoming. While Logic offers quality, built-in plug-ins, no professional is going to limit themselves to the options Logic provides. Heck, I'm only a bedroom musician, but pretty much every plug-in I own doesn't work under Catalina, nor does my interface.

For those with questions on compatibility, Sweetwater has an excellent listing: https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/macos-10-15-catalina-compatibility-list/#a
jeez, what do you use?
Voxengo works, Celemony works, iZotope works, FabFilter works, u-he works, Waves works, Native Instruments (except Traktor) works (officially!),... So there's really not much that doesn't work.

RME interfaces worked a week before catalina was officially out, Apogee works, etc.

I personally haven't upgraded yet because i'm mid project, but it's the next thing i plan to do when I finish.
The list is updated. Both NI and Waves have compatibility statements, Arturia released one 3 days ago. Toontrack works if you update - if not, there's an OFFICIAL workaround.

UAD works for the most part as well. (https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360033607311-macOS-10-15-Catalina-Compatibility-Info)

as far as NI goes, their backward compatibility has always been ****. First gen Komplete interfaces lasted a few years, then they stopped working. Focusrite gen1 wont work either. But that's on companies, not catalina, as their support has historically been ****.

I don't have any experience with Toontrack or Universal Audio plugins, but the other three you mentioned are actually Catalina-compatible. (Arturia with the V Collection 7.1 update and Waves with the V11 update.)

Also, Native Instruments has a compatibility list available and the major players (Absynth/Battery/FM8/Kontakt 5 and 6/Massive/Massive X/Reaktor 6) are listed as compatible.

You do have to pay to update to Waves V11 depending on if your Waves Update Plan is current but I've had no issues running any of my Arturia, Waves, or Native Instruments plugins on my Mac Pro with Catalina 10.15.1.

That’s cool that he’s got one already.

I like the look of the Mac Pro but I’d never buy one. I don’t need one so it would be money wasted for me personally.

Yes, I saw the post, and it didn't have thinner bezels, that's because it is the 15" model.

Apple's new Mac Pro, still listed on Apple's website as "coming this fall," has been spotted in the wild this weekend at the studio of DJ and producer Calvin Harris.

New Mac Pro spotted in Calvin Harris Instagram video

On Saturday, Harris posted an Instagram story featuring some of his music and offering his followers a peek into his production studio, in which a Mac Pro with signature cheese grater case and carry handles can be seen sat on the floor next to a desk.

The sighting suggests Apple has shared the new high-throughput machine with creative professionals to give them a feel for its power and potential ahead of its public release, which could be any day now.

The all-new ?Mac Pro? boasts up to 28-core Intel Xeon processors, up to 1.5TB of ECC RAM, up to 4TB of SSD storage, and up to AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics with 64GB of HBM2 memory. The computer also has eight PCIe expansion slots for maximum performance, expansion, and configurability.

A new design includes a stainless steel frame with smooth handles and an aluminum housing that lifts off for 360-degree access to the entire system. The housing also has a unique lattice pattern to maximize airflow and quiet operation.

Apple announced the Mac Pro on June 3, and the company has been teasing a fall release on its website ever since, without specifying a launch date. The machine received FCC approval on October 30, suggesting pre-order availability is not far away.

The Mac Pro starts at $5,999, so this machine is only for the most serious professional users. They could also twin it with the $6,000 Pro Display XDR, which is expected to be released at the same time.

My favorite part of the picture is the dirty bowl sitting on the laptop. Apparently, all the money in the world doesn't make you a better housekeeper. My house is cleaner and I have four small children. But I guess being a slob means you're a creative genius who doesn't have time to put a dirty dish in the sink?

Why would Calvin Harris stage a hoax?

I don’t get why this is even news, Apple announced what the new MP will look like, it’s specs and when it’s going to be released (granted not with an exact date). We know Apple provides test units to developers, target audience and reviewers. It not what I would define as a “unicorn” as it was revealed on-stage.

If one does not like the design, that is fine but I find people tend to question the design of most things Apple has released recently and then warm up to it when seen in-person. I suspect the same here granted most won’t be able to afford it and will still complain about it.

There is a question of need and not affordability for logical minded folks.

Plus who cares if Calvin Harris has one before everyone else, it’s going to be available probably near the end of the fall deadline similar to the iMac Pro release. I prefer it gets properly tested now rather than having to deal with issues post purchase.
