I hear you...
It looks to me like he’s focused on just getting actual work done vs worrying about how it all looks
The horror.

Yes a clear desk is nice.

But sometimes work is a little more important than keeping everything constantly looking like an apple store product demo area.

The 3rd party case doesn't have the handle on top and you can't lift the whole thing off in one go.

I'm sure its genuine and I'm sure he's not the only person out there to have one.
Quite possibly he's going to feature in a 'look what people are creating with our new Mac Pro' video ad when the release comes, so not surprised at all some big & well known creatives like him have been given units to use...

Is this another braindropping from the creative genius of Jony Ive? Seems he found some inspiration from the humble box grater.

Apple's new Mac Pro, still listed on Apple's website as "coming this fall," has been spotted in the wild this weekend at the studio of DJ and producer Calvin Harris.

New Mac Pro spotted in Calvin Harris Instagram video

On Saturday, Harris posted an Instagram story featuring some of his music and offering his followers a peek into his production studio, in which a Mac Pro with signature cheese grater case and carry handles can be seen sat on the floor next to a desk.

The sighting suggests Apple has shared the new high-throughput machine with creative professionals to give them a feel for its power and potential ahead of its public release, which could be any day now.

The all-new ?Mac Pro? boasts up to 28-core Intel Xeon processors, up to 1.5TB of ECC RAM, up to 4TB of SSD storage, and up to AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics with 64GB of HBM2 memory. The computer also has eight PCIe expansion slots for maximum performance, expansion, and configurability.

A new design includes a stainless steel frame with smooth handles and an aluminum housing that lifts off for 360-degree access to the entire system. The housing also has a unique lattice pattern to maximize airflow and quiet operation.

Apple announced the Mac Pro on June 3, and the company has been teasing a fall release on its website ever since, without specifying a launch date. The machine received FCC approval on October 30, suggesting pre-order availability is not far away.

The Mac Pro starts at $5,999, so this machine is only for the most serious professional users. They could also twin it with the $6,000 Pro Display XDR, which is expected to be released at the same time.

Gosh, I wish they would lend me one. I could find a very good home to one of these.

That cheese grater looks like it will be a superb dust collector. I wonder if the case is dishwasher safe?
What have you got against my best friend Compressed Air Can?

I do however wonder if there are filters. Macs have a habit of gathering up tons of dust on internal components after a few years which can seriously thermal limit them.

Wow .... I wonder how much this will cost him - surely a breach of whatever NDA Apple had him sign.
Why would there be an NDA in place for a known product announced by Apple to ship in the fall especially when Apple announced that they are actively working with creative pros? It was also part of Apple's marketing for their own creative summit so if anything, Calvin Harris was paid to do this for Apple.

Never heard of Calvin Harris, nor do I really care who he is. But those poor, pathetic feet on that expensive computer... It's a design travesty if I ever saw one!
The real question is why does any DJ need a Mac Pro?

Well, one thing is certain -- it's running Mojave and not Catalina, since almost every music and audio and video software company has told all their users NOT to upgrade to Catalina; most applications still require 32-bit plug-ins, etc., even if the software itself was 64-bit.

And now that I see it in real-life use, to me it looks rather clunky, not sleek at all like the Mac Pros before the trash can. (Just my own personal tastes.)
Sleek? Old Mac pros were giant cheese graters that were mocked for their size, weight and utilitarian function over form. How quickly we forget.

Looks great. Wish they’d make ones with the x299 platform (and whatever they call the xeon platform built on the same) in order to get ones that don’t cost an arm or a leg.

wow really? The guy probably just ate, was feeling his music, and turned on his camera in the moment. And here you are ready to call him a slob? lmao man, i guess its true, when you are successful, there will always be people to bring you down.
If he's so successful, he should hire a maid. By the way, I had to Google Calvin Harris because have no idea who he is.

Why did you feel like you needed to mention you have no idea who he is? I as an educated adult know there are many influential celebrities that hold the appeal of millions that I may never know about.
And for you to think that his studio should look like Apple’s new fifth avenue location while he is in the middle of working is laughable.

Even so that may be true I stand by my quote ! When you zoom in you can can see how "crap" it is.
The screenshot is already cropped and zoomed in from a screenshot of an Instagram story lol

This may be true. This may be a scam. This may be an error on Calvin's part to release this photo. In any case, doesn't matter if he uses a Mac Pro or a $300 piece of kit, the "musical" output is very bad. He is a very fortunate Scottish lad who has prospered due to the sad state of the music industry over the past decade, combined with a generation of unfortunate consumers who have not had the good fortune to be exposed to high quality writing, singing, playing of real instruments etc. YMMV.

not sure if you know that Calvin Harris plays many instruments, in which he does for many of his hits.

I'm going to buy that Dune Case and build a new Threadripper (3rd Gen) from December onwards just to show Apple how it's done properly!! The Mac Pro is already out of date if it can't keep up with technology. It's using outdated Intel technology, no wonder it's expensive!!
