When do we realistically think the updated MacPro's will be unveiled? I am thinking of getting an iMac but the glossy screens are putting me off [I'm a graphic designer]. Should I wait? My G4 is on its last legs as it's over 6 years old.

lol..you've been waiting a loong time :)

As this topic starter , I'm very impressive to know that I've much more friends to waiting a new mac pro with me

thank you everybody

Put me down too.

I have:
PC
Athlon barton 2500+
1GB ram
Asus Nvidia 7600GS ultra silent
Seagate HDD 320GB

I also bought the new iMac just for 2 months or so and when they release the Mac Pro 2.0 my gf will get the iMac. :)

I will admit that I haven't been as fast at unplugging my PC when our afternoon thunderstorms come rolling though. Wishful thinking? I really want to make this transition to the Mac but I'm NOT good at waiting.

U can do what i did. I bought the new iMac with student discount +apple care and I paid £880. I have the 2.4 20" iMac and I'm sure that if you do the same you will have no problems to sell it for the same price if not a bit higher (seeing as I have saved over £200). 2-3 months usage will not drop drastically. This iMac made the waiting very easy as I don't have to worry about the update and can get on with my work. I'm also new to mac and this iMac is my first mac ever. Trust me, it will take your mind away from macrumors etc. :) I used to spend whole day on MR but now don't have to as I have something to kill the time with. :p

Think about it :)

Well, i made a switch. But to the opposite side. I buyed a PC.
Anyway I wish to all of you, that you'll get your Mac Pro refreshment/update as soon as it is possible. ;)

today my friend buy core 2 quad 2.4 GHz PC that price only ~ 700 usd

if i buy mac pro Quad now i must paid a 2500 usd tag ..

so sad

Well, I hope we all don't die by the time the new update arrives ;) I still wish Apple would change their typical approach to PR and make announcements about their intentions. We'll all buy it anyway and it will give us poor buggers a chance to save up and plan for our purchases.

I'm getting tired of Jobs' "Get Smart" point of view.

I'm also waiting.
I have a 4 years old PC.
I may actually buy a Mini in the meantime to get used to the swith before the Pro is ready... I'll then resell the Mini. It's at least what I told my wife :D

TWO QUESTIONS:
1. When do you think the MacPro will be updated? [This Year?]

2. Do you think the design be significantly smaller? The current tower is a hangover from the G5 days. Surely a revised unit could be compressed in size.

R ;)

Count me in. Current system: G5 Dual Core 2.0Ghz (PCIe model), 4.5GB RAM, an ATI x1900GT 256mb AND an nvidia 6600 256mb (both pci-e, so supports up to 4 monitors, etc), 2 x 250gb maxtor hd's, airport, bluetooth yadda yadda. It's a really great machine, to be honest, i'll be sad to see it go. Best machine i ever bought.

My machine is usually plenty fast for me, but i just want to make sure i have future support, compatibility, and can just get this transition over and done with now and not have to worry about a new machine for 4-5 years or whatever.

Want to upgrade to at least a quad 3.0ghz, i hope this becomes the standard model when we get an upgrade, if they don't go octo core across the board (which i don't think they will do)

I have a 15" powerbook g4 1.25ghz too, from work. Hopefully they'll get me a mbp in nov... it's painfully slow

November is a good guess.
Some think September or October.

The only rumor about a redesigned Mac Pro case was back in March.
There is nothing wrong with the case now so I don't envision a redesign.
The next Mac Pro will have a more powerful video card and a more powerful cpu.
I would think that would equate to more heat.
Maybe they will need to keep the case as big as it is for that reason.
Maybe a SLI or crossfire video card will be an option, that may be an argument for the same size case.
There haven't been many Mac Pro rumors.
As the time approaches for the new Mac Pro we should start hearing more and more rumors.

Put me down for one. Gonna be whatever highest-end Octore they have. Probably a 3.33 Ghz, 6GB RAM, 1.5 to 2.5 TB HDD, depending on Apple's Developer price for Mac Pro terabyte drives. Kick-awesome graphics card; probably the best offered.

I still have to buff out my Mini(hahaha!) but when Leopard,Logic and a MP comes out that can utilize 32 gigs of ram and all 8 cores for digital audio (more specifically running large instances of samples) then I’m in the club!! :apple::D

BP

Add me.

I've been waiting to make the switch from windows. If the update takes much longer, I'm going to get a Maingear gaming PC.

i want to swap out a decent graffix card for mine! Also does anyone know how much the X5365s are retail in Pound Sterling? (far too much i know)

i also need a New HD and one of them funky bluetooth mini keyboards to make it look even more huge!

so yes, i got a 2.66 mac pro, 3 gig ram, crappy Geforce 7300 GT on launch and i'm itching for an upgrade

This is a USD to UK Pounds conversion (Thanks to google):

1 300 U.S. dollars = 656.764676 British pounds
