Count me in!!!

I have been designing for 10 years, learned on a g3 (still have one as backup!) then got a g4, which to this day I only use for Quark to lay out print runs, since it's so old i can't really do much else with it other then check occasional mac files... I have 5 pc's, the one im using a workstation now is starting to be feel a bit dated, I'm READY to go all mac finally and relegate my pc's to accounting purposes and download machines lol...

I said it elsewhere, I m perfectly happy with current specs but really want a redesign if im going to drop 5k on a comp i need to make sure that 3 months later a newly redesigned comes out or i'll be pissed :D

I was planning on waiting, but...

I don't think I can wait another 6 months till MacWorld (my guess) for new towers. Even if I wait till November, new will be pricier than the current
(i buy refurb or open box). I found a deal today I am going take.

System - iMac G4

Waiting for 10.5 before I pull the trigger on a new Mac Pro

Do new mac pros generally cost the same as the previous version or more? Could they possibly run cheaper like the new iMacs do?

See, that's what I'm afraid of. They want to target the "Professionals" with the Mac Pros. I'm hoping the prices don't climb up. I mean, look at the MacBook Pros. The middle model is 2,500. I would rather spend that 2,500 on a Mac Pro that would blow the thing away. Yes, it is a laptop and is portable, but still, the more power the better. I just remember when my G4 Dual 800 was 3,000. Don't want that to be the baseline price for a Pro computer. Apple will probably stay with their normal price range around 2,499. I hope.

Apple do like to offer new systems for the same price point, and assuming that the $2,500 price point is working for them, expect it to remain so. While things have changed on both the technology and pricing side it's nothing huge. Apple should be able to offer, for example, a 2.83Ghz 8 Core system with 2GB of RAM, 320GB hard drive and say an 8500GT graphics card for $2,500. With the major aspects buyers look at all upgraded and the price the same, both Apple and the consumer win (which means Apple win twice).

Without knowing sales numbers and expected sales numbers it's hard to say if the MP is doing what Apple expected, I'm guessing it is as they haven't done anything much with it when they could have. So things like a cheaper quad core Mac Pro (older processors or single quad chip), or lowered pricing seem unlikely.

I have a powerbook 17'' with 1,67 Mhz. I Love it but it's a bit slow. I saw the new iMac over here at a local store standing next to a ACD hooked to a mini. This setup made me finally decide not to buy the iMac since the ACD is a far more superior screen.

I want to join the club, my next machine will be a Pro since I am a pro and I need a good and reliable screen ...
I'm just waiting until it is updated and maybe until leopard comes out.

I would think it's highly likely considering the prices have been cut in half by intel. It would be stupid to not have a Mac"Pro" machine running at 8-cores for all models, especially when Leopard utilizes all 8-cores. Gonna be soooo sick.
I sure hope you're right, man...

I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

I would actually consider the current base line model if they offered some new graphic card options...

I think chance of the baseline revised mac pro being an octo core is unlikely?

I actually think it's more likely to happen than to not happen. Leopard multi core support should be amazing, looking forward to seeing how it improves the performance of my current 4 core 2.66Ghz Mac Pro.

Harpertown Prices At Retail Launch Will = Woodcrest Prices Now

This post shows the Harpertown prices will equal today's Woodcrest prices at retail box release November 11. So it's pretty likely 8 cores will be the rule across the whole line.

As much as I love macs, as my iphone, ipod, macbook, and powerbook can testify... I am tired of waiting.... grrr, Apple, update or I am going back to a PC... As much as I would hate going back to the PC, it is doable, all of my programs that I use are on both pc and mac, thank you Avid and Company.. :)

But paying 1999$ for a midrange macpro w/student developers discount :), or $1700 for a kick ass HP 9400 workstation or a homebuilt $1400 for a kick ass PC w/nice quadro card, is becoming more tempting everyday.

Apple! I like the operating system, I like the programs, I really really really like expose.... don't force me to save money by going back to windows.... I need power! Gimme Gimme Power!

You can add my name to the list ...

Current machine:
A Dell  Inspiron laptop, plugged into a 24" Dell ( again ) monitor.

Looking to make the jump after Leopard has settled down and see what the general verdict is on it.

The MacPro should hopefully speed up the photowork I do no end ( its a tad slow on the laptop, even with 2Gb installed ).

Plus . . .the wife used Macs at school and has expressed an interest in getting one! Now I know a Mini would suffice, but hey ... she doesn't need to know !!! :D:cool::D

I thought that Tiger allready utilize all 8-cores. Am I wrong?

...

Death Warrant's waiting too...

Currently using a PowerMac G5, 2x 2.5 GHz, 4.5 GB RAM, 2x 250 GB HD, ATI X800XT Graphic Card.

Rowlander: PC Pentium 4: 2,4 GHz, 768 MB RAM

I have to buy a Mac in November before my student discount ends! I pray to god (or Steve? ;)), new Mac Pros will be at least "orderable" by November.

I don´t want an iMac or MacBook Pro. I need all the raw power I can get!

Big jump

So do I win the biggest upgrade contest? My current machine is a G4 400MHz AGB graphics (sawtooth), one of the original G4s from 2000. I want a mac pro not so much for raw power, as for longevity: my next upgrade will probably be another seven years away!
