The Cube was a great computer. What are you talking about?
I agree. We still have ours running with the accompanying 17" Studio Display.

Unlike the mac mini, it's incredibly easy to open up and repair. The only thing we've had to replace on it is the graphics card, which was easy to do. I'd love if they sold a desktop like that again. Maybe not quite as pricey as that was the one knock the Cube had against it.

I guess we were lucky because we never had any of the cracking issues.

Amazingly, I have never put an expensive wheeled item on my desk. You put locking wheels on things that are going to be pushed, like movable white boards. My desk chair doesn't have locking wheels. OMG! What if I put it on my desk? It might roll off!

/facepalm

They can over-engineer the Mac Pro but they can't design a proper caster.

Apple... Majoring on minors and minoring on majors.

Have to save something for the ”Mac Pro Wheels Pro”

Also, it’d be great to see the Mac Pro Wheels Pro Max Plus at some point.

I think the real question here is why do so many Apple customers put up with Apple's disrespect for them?

Because Apple, with all their issues and excessive pricing, provides a product that induces less frustration than their competitors.

There’s substitutes that aren’t Apple, sure.
But you’ll then have a Windows laptop, an Android phone (which don’t have the integration that macOS / iOS / watchOS does, and there’s no decent iPad competitor.
If you wanted a wearable you’d likely have to get one of Samsung’s due to the sorry state of WearOS, and that’s yet another ecosystem.

So it’s simpler to stick with Apple, despite their issues.

I don’t agree, but I’m biased by the 628% appreciation in my Apple stock since Tim took over.

Bully for you.

I'm sure Apple will claim they invented the wheel soon enough, if they haven't already.
Nah, they invented the wheel without a brake. It’s revolutionary. It means you don’t have to take the brake off when you move it.

The wheels aren't user serviceable; you have to decide on wheels or not when you purchase the machine and are stuck with your decision.

So if you ordered the computer thinking you are going to put it on the floor, and then people decide to use standing desks, or you move offices, or your studio workstation changes to accommodate new hardware, then you can be stuck with putting a wheeled unit on a desk.

This has got to be the biggest non-story I've seen in a long time. The wambulance is on the way.

Seriously, we're talking about it not having locks on the wheels? Is it a slow day there? Who cares? Retort: "I have a sit & stand desk and it will roll right off without locks!" Then WTF did you spend $400 on casters for!?

It was a commercial flop and had the whole "cracked case" fiasco.

.... is what I'm talking about.

The "cracks" weren't real. I've NEVER seen a Cube with actual cracks, not even many years later. They were mold lines.

We actually sold a lot of them before the stupid "crack" stories came out. Sales dropped after that, but the only way that lexan case was going to crack was if you dropped it onto concrete from a significant height. A hardwood floor couldn't touch it.

The real problem with the Cube was the hard drive. No fan, so it would be quiet. But most of them had Maxtor hard drives that were louder than any Apple fan outside of an XServe.

Look at this way when you work for Disney and Pixar, $400 for them, like $4 for us. So when you watch the next Pixar movie or Marvel movie and enjoying it. Those wheels help move around those Mac Pro units to create all that video and animation. So this is a great price for the people that the machine is created for. Buy a MacBook Pro 16 and enjoy a really great laptop that you can afford.

Value prop: you can get An Apple Watch ... or you can wheel your shiny new grated investment down a hill.

..Who said the Mac was locked down?

These are the fastest, most agile wheels we've ever created. Made of the purest aloomineum
