I understand the reluctance to put external brakes on the casters as they are usually unattractive but for $400 Apple could have easily not mailed it in and designed the coolest braking wheel ever. Something along the lines of pushing or twisting the metal hub to lock the wheel. A simple cam lock like the internal access on the Pro or a soft touch push-in of the hub. Could have done something truly unique befitting a $400 price. Like many things lately Apple misses a lot of opportunities to wow people and usually those things are the small things like a caster or a pulsing sleep light, etc...

This has got to be the biggest non-story I've seen in a long time. The wambulance is on the way.

Seriously, we're talking about it not having locks on the wheels? Is it a slow day there? Who cares? Retort: "I have a sit & stand desk and it will roll right off without locks!" Then WTF did you spend $400 on casters for!?
This is a big reason why I don’t pay attention to macrumors much anymore. I think Apple made the perfect wheels. They’re super smooth. A friend purchased his with them on because for some reason he always moved his older Mac Pro to fiddle with cables, install new components, manage peripherals, and the wheels are a major feature for his habits. Me? I’m still waiting on my rack-mount model to come in. It’s going in a rack-mount gear box with all of my 500 series gear and my interface so I can lock it and travel with it. It’s all about choice, and the children here throw a fit about it. Lol.

From fleecing people with overpriced, buggy hardware, and taking their extortionate 30% from App Store sales for basically being a storefront and a payment processor.

Let’s be honest about it - they aren’t making that much profit playing fair on the customer. But as long as the shareholders are happy eh?
Stop with the nonsense blanket statements based on your opinion. Customers are happy based on sales data and consumer satisfaction research.

Data backs up my statement. Price is personal. Data indicates people are willing to pay these prices.

You can avoid the wheels if they are an issue for you. This is certainly not an indictment of the entire company. It’s an insignificant clickbait article to fire up people who want to pitchfork.

If companies make crap, people don’t buy it...particularly companies that work in this competitive of an environment and even more particularly when the items cost enough money for people to really weigh the options.

I think this is evident that the very people criticising Apple for not “thinking different” are the ones incapable of thinking outside the box themselves.

The wheels are an accessory. Why would you install them if you didn’t want your Mac Pro to roll around or planned to use them on your desk?

You are late. Didn’t respond with spin until page four.

Been busy with work.

God, nothing but Apple haters in the comments. Those wheels aren't $400, they are only $100 a wheel (can only be purchased in sets of four). At only a $100 a wheel, to want a lock thrown in for free is practically begging Apple to lose money. That's not something a struggling company can afford to do right now guys...

No idea what the big fuss is about. The wheel looks amazing, and I cannot imagine a situation where you'd want your machine easily moved around (hence the wheels) but you need to lock it in place - your desk has no legs and is in the middle of an office floor tilted on a massive angle?

I dunno. My car came with wheels AND locks. And the Mac Pro can cost more than most cars, so...

Not *that* hard to imagine a scenario - most of the initial reporting was because people were imagining it on a desk, not the floor. Add in earthquakes, people bumping into desks, frisky trouble-making kittens, aggressive potted Venus flytraps, highly localized and desk-sized low pressure weather systems - the possibilities are nearly endless.

Wheels are $400, holy hell Batman! Apple have lost the plot on their pricing.

I keep seeing people post that Apple has “lost the plot” and I wonder - “what’s that mean?” Then I see, “Apple have” instead of “Apple has” and I realize it must be a British thing and I lose interest.

Just thought I’d share.

The grammar determines the correct word in the context, 'have' is correct. If I use your Cs - Cmaier has .... then it is correct because it's singular. If I'm referring to a group or more than one, then 'have' is correct.

Why the wheels then if it's on a desk? But yes I understand the outrage now in realising that Apple hadn't (or would you prefer hasn't?) taken into account the devastating effect of barometric pressure and playful felines.

There’s only one Apple. Since it is singular, “has” is correct.

(By the way, I fully get that the British treat collective singular as plural. It’s fun to bicker about, and there is no right or wrong. But don’t get me started on “maths” :) )

Those wheels look absolutely silly.
I can understand criticizing the functionality of the unlocking wheels, but what type of person would complain about the beautiful design of them?

This feels like the kind of thing Steve Jobs would have thrown a fit over.
Oh right - - the type of person who would belatedly invoke the opinion of the late Steve Jobs.

Apple these days.....

The solution is obvious. Buy Apple AirTags, attach one to your Mac Pro, and you'll be able to find it no matter where it rolls to.

It’s clearly been too long since the last Apple controversy, as evident from how the haters are all frothing at the mouths to criticise Apple over what is really a non-issue.

is it a non-issue as outrageous pricing and luxury goods are the norm now?

Why are you mad that people are keeping them honest? Should we all applaud apple so that Tim gets more ideas and starts charging $400 for dongles?

Well, to be fair, these thing are going to have power and monitor cables and such plugged into them in the "Real world", and they really aren't going anywhere.

Still fun to point out the possibility, though!
Correct. But the price is ridiculous nevertheless.

Yep, my 2019 MBP 13 inch has already had a couple of ‘sticky’ keys, despite it being the fixed fixed fixed? butterfly keyboard version. I guess it’ll be going in for a replacement at some point over the next few months.
Mine is perfect. Bought last August.
