I'm aware the Intel ones became just available.

Nothing stopping apple from using the same integrated graphic cards, or just dedicated GPUs.

Apple may have sold 5million computers in the highlighted period but it's a sad number when other manufacturers are outperforming apple.

The Skylake processors other OEMs have been using all utilize the non-Iris / non-Iris Pro integrated GPUs. The Macbook Pros have always utilized Intel Iris (13" MBP) & Intel Iris Pro (15" MBP) integrated GPUs. The Skylake processors utilizing the Intel 580 Iris Pro GPU only came out this summer.

I don't want a thinner mbp with a bad keyboard and soldered-in storage and ram.
I just want my 2011 mbp to have a retina display and be 'Metal' compatible!
mbp's are getting even worse over time!
It was building my Hackintosh back in 2010 that made me buy my first mbp in 2011. Now it looks like I'll be going back to Hackintosh because I'm so tired of the no-sense decisions by Apple on their Mac lines.
Sad.
Shareholders need to take a back seat.
Get rid of Tim Cook please Apple.

The upgrade prices are crazy and even the most ardent Apple buyer will usually say so.

The crazy thing is that while it's always been premium pricing, now Apple solders it, so this is a new level of screw up for the consumer.

I need to know who thinks adding a flatter keyboard to the MBP is a good idea. I'd love to flog that person.

If the MacBook keyboard comes to the MBP I won't buy another MBP until this idiocy stops.
I think it's a good idea. Go ahead. "Flog" me. Whatever that means

Going mac means you are entering an ecosystem which is getting increasingly harder to get out of. I need computers (and fast ones at that) as a necessary part of my job. With what they've done with the Mac Pro, and th eMacbook Pro over the past couple of years, even if Apple does release the awesomest computers in a month, how can I trust that they won't pull a Mac Pro on me and force me to make the difficult step of moving over to PC a couple of years from now for my job, or alternatively suffer with low performing devices that reduce my productivity relative to competitors dramatically (or as in the case of VR, not even allow me to enter a field).

I just made the jump from Mac to a custom built Windows box at work. It's a ton of effort to get things moved over and set up again, but my god is it fast and stable and reliable and FAST!

Cost my company a fraction of what it'd have cost to get a new-old Mac, and they were all stunned that I asked for a Windows box. Strangely, I feel more productive and less stressed now.

I can say that Windows ain't your grand-dads OS anymore.

Further, I think the iPad and iPhone will continue to be the platforms that Apple focuses on. The iPad is not really a replacement for a desktop for most of us here, but it's good for what it is and it keeps you in the Apple ecosystem.

To everyone else considering the jump, my advice: Get your trucks elsewhere if you can. Mobile computing is where Apple is going.

I build my own computers so how do they count me? I built a gaming rig for oculus rift and a HTPC for my living room in 2015.

Obviously you're not counted on a list that includes PC OEMs like HP, Dell, etc. This is counting sales by the OEMs.

I, too, build my own Windows desktops... so we're probably on a list with motherboard manufacturers.

OpenGL? Apple wishes we're all metal... ;)

Problem with creating new frameworks is getting them adopted.

Second problem is having that framework be able to back up its claim to the throne.

Metal not doing either. Valve and others have made open gl the middle ground between systems for years. Its also allows for headway into Linux...so in theory kill 3 birds with one stone. Apple imo would be better off making open gl better...it be the framework to be the best bridge. Hell few companies bothered to build ground up for Open gl as a start. Wrap up in some cross platform tech (ex. wine)...call it done.

And apple not even doing this in house even. Hitting on apple's home grown applications, again, these have not seen core ground up rebuilds for much of apples innovations. Swift, metal, etc.

While annoying, from a sys admin prespective since you have to push out and patch .net framework changes, its also cool when M$ pushes out revisions of .net....they actually use them. I see the cool aid, its looks tasty. But...how about you drink it first kind of thing. M$ does this.

Why should we have to use your new .net M$ asks the developer? Microsoft answers because its new, its better and 6 months from now when we release office or server product 2017....it will be using it. You can get on the bus now in dev releases and support sites or later. Either way in 6 months to a year when the execs have an idea to build up an application to interface our new stuff...you will learn this. And look, here we are being the first people on the bus.

I'm looking to buy a Mac Book Pro 17" 1 or 2 gen back so I can get one less than $900. It'll replace my Power Book G4 17"

Non user replaceable battery, storage, memory.

All in the name of thinness, and of course more profits to the detriment of the customer.

Don't forget Poor graphics performance...

How? They haven't MacBooked the rMBP yet. They might, but they haven't.

It is amazing that Apple sold 5 million computers with 2013 CPUs in the past year. Imagine what they could have done if they sold something that's not an antique.

Ah. To be honest it's been so long I actually forgot the pre-retina model wasn't all soldered and glued. I was thinking more of the keyboard and one port situation on the MB. I actually "suffered" from this when I replaced my 2013 13" with the 2015 15". The main thing I wanted was to double the RAM and, obviously, I couldn't. All the other upgrades I got by upgrading are sweet and I'd be lying if I said I regret it though (also my gf got my 13" hand me down which should last her many years)

I don't want to sound like a d**k saying this but at some point you just have to evaluate what's there, what you want to spend and what you expect to get. If it doesn't match your expectations go get something else. I think it's as simple as that really. Soldering, less expandability and so on are sweeping across mainstream computing, desktop, mobile, ultra-mobile, but there are still choices out there if that's what you're prioritizing.

What choice? Windows?

Hey now... some Macs have Broadwell processors and Skylake processers.

They're not ALL that old... ;)

But yeah... I agree with your general premise of "antique" hardware. Apple is sometimes behind the times in terms of processor choices.

The question is: does Apple ignore its Mac line because people aren't buying anymore or is it the other way round?

I wonder how they source the components for the 2012 non-retina MBP13 they still sell for a ridiculous 1,205 €.

If you ask me they could stop further Mac development and concentrate on (far more profitable) mobile devices but give us developers a DAMN alternative for making iOS apps.
Xcode running on iOS or even Windows, anyone?

I've says it somewhere here before, but I suspect eventually you'll be able to write and deploy apps from Linux.

Swift is setting the stage.

Come on guys. Everyone keeps whining and complaining about the lack of Mac updates. Yes its true the line hasn't been updated in a long time. But for the majority of users what else do you really need?

I run a small development company and right now my daily workhouse is a MB Pro Mid-2014 model with 16GB of memory. Being that I'm in development means that I push my computer much harder than most users every single day. And it runs absolutely fine and lets me get my work without any major slowdowns.

So for the other 80% of Mac users who are using it for email and word processing what is a brand new Mac going to give them that the current ones don't? If anything it will make life a bit harder at first because Apple will probably remove yet another port in their relentless pursuit of thinness which means we have to deal with a new configuration = more $$$$ spent on new cables and accessories.

So for the majority of users Apple has a solution that will work perfectly for them now and for at least the next couple of years.

Now I'm stepping off my soapbox and I will say "YES I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW MACS!"

What else do the majority of users need? First thing that comes to mind: USB-C.

How about next-gen connectivity?

The last 2 are choices only for a few people. So no choice.

I don't think either are as bad as you may think but if they don't suit then there's always good old Wintel. I rag on Windows as much as the next guy but beneath the confused, ugly exterior there is, and has been very for a very long time, a solid Operating System. Like I said, trade-offs.

lol you are really suggesting wintel to mac users like it's no big deal? Camawn bro.
