5 million Macs sold last quarter despite there being nothing new in Mac in a while...impressive.

All other PC manufacturers that are doing nothing but trying to sell PCs, should be doing much better, but instead are doing pretty poorly.

Mac sales are definitely pretty steady. They own a certain market segment, and command 90% of the purchases in the $1000+ space, routinely.

You can all whine about the lack of updates. Doesn't hurt Apple much. Or consumers. Current Macs are still great Macs. Along the margins it hurts a bit, since the Pro-pros don't have a new Mac Pro, and the new MacBook Pros are taking their time getting here. But all in all, this matters very very little.

What an apologist... Jeez. They need to update them ASAP...

1. ARM Macs ftw.

2. ship ship ship ship, who gives a ship? show me goddamned sales.

Next month, Next Month!!!! What happened to the vaulted October Release??? Mac Charlie Brown and what is with the skimpy updates? You've had two Years. Who are you and what have you done with Apple?
I thought the rumors were pointing to an October release too. As a Mac supporter this is really discouraging.

Come on guys. Everyone keeps whining and complaining about the lack of Mac updates. Yes its true the line hasn't been updated in a long time. But for the majority of users what else do you really need?

I run a small development company and right now my daily workhouse is a MB Pro Mid-2014 model with 16GB of memory. Being that I'm in development means that I push my computer much harder than most users every single day. And it runs absolutely fine and lets me get my work without any major slowdowns.

So for the other 80% of Mac users who are using it for email and word processing what is a brand new Mac going to give them that the current ones don't? If anything it will make life a bit harder at first because Apple will probably remove yet another port in their relentless pursuit of thinness which means we have to deal with a new configuration = more $$$$ spent on new cables and accessories.

So for the majority of users Apple has a solution that will work perfectly for them now and for at least the next couple of years.

Now I'm stepping off my soapbox and I will say "YES I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW MACS!"

Right. Much of the clamor is from pseudo-technical people who aren't really pushing the boxes but think "bigger number=better than" whether or not it actually makes any practical difference.

With that said, like you, I am of course interested in seeing updated machines when it makes sense. No rational person is saying "I love having no updates" but you have to look at what's available though some kind of lens of sanity.

Even with virtualization overhead the host and each of two VMs would, at full disk i/o, get somewhat similar throughput as the old machine did on its own. In fact though I tend to run some VM's off of Samsung T1's over USB 3.0 and those can pretty much match the 400Mb/s of the old internal SSD.

Ooft. If I could kiss your setup, I would.

If I could buy it dinner, we'd have to split the bill. I'm pretty broke this month.

My girlfriend keeps asking when these new macs come out as I've told her to wait to replace her 2011 13" MBP...I can't keep stalling for you forever, apple!

No offense to mbp users as I am also MbP user, but I'm sick of hearing mbp. I would like to hear desktop computers...Mac Pro, iMac and Mac mini.

I've been waiting to buy a new Mini because the old one I gave my mom needs to be replaced.
My current Mini (2011) is still OK but I would buy a new one and give my current Mini to her but Apple just refuses to take my money

So it is at least a couple of billions of lost revenue. Probably more since the market share would have increased. Not shipping a Mac Book Pro Skylake was a really bad decision.

If there is not a new MBP before the end of the year, I will switch to Windows, their latest OS doesn't look that bad

I am still limping along on my late 2008 MBP. If I shut it down, I have to remove the back and heat up the logic board with a heat gun to start it up again. Still a better choice than the current lineup. We lost Steve just over 5 years ago along with all hope and innovation for the Mac.

I need a new computer. I may actually go for a current model via the refurb store if the new models don't offer anything for the price, right now my only worry is i'll buy a 13" base MBP, only for them to release the new model with 16gb ram and 256gb ssd at the same price point, which would really p*ss me off. So what I really need right now is some information to make a decision on.

(I'd really like a space grey one, though!)

I don't understand what all Apple employees have done in 2016? It's time to find a new leader.
They've doing iOS and watch bands. Unfortunately, by reading any Apple rumors websites, you can notice there's a loud iOS fanbase, so they invested where they believe there's money. If there was a Mac-only rumors website, I'd choose it, but there's none, and most rumors nowadays are iOS related. About a Mac rumor every 50 iOS rumors or so. We can conclude iOS is like an snowball, growing and growing from recursive feedback. But the market changes, and Apple might find they invested too high in just one place.

As a regular user of it I can assure it's a complete mess. It works of course, NT has been stable along time, but the actual UI and UX are a complete and utter mess.
Not to mention that it still keeps breaking.

Sure, but what's Apple excuse for not incorporating Skylake?

Well, as I said above, it took a long time for model suitable for the rMBP to actually materialize (the low parts always get released first. Low power Kaby Lake is available now but for rMBPs a suitable model won't be released until, iirc, March) and when it did is was a bit of a disaster. Again, entire parts of that chip had to be disabled because they didn't work. It was bad and by the time it wasn't bad it probably didn't make a whole lot of sense. Oh and not only was it bad from a stability/accuracy standpoint but it barely moved the needle in efficiency or performance.
