As I type on my new 14" MBP I now smile when I read these. I was "waiting" for the flood gates to open, but now I can just relax and read.
Lol. The M2 Airs drew my attention but after I lot of research and consideration and borrowing my daughter’s M1 Air, I ordered a top specced refurbished M1 Air for a decent savings and will also relax and read. Mine arrives tomorrow.

There is still hope for pre orders from 1st and shipping from 8th. The m2 pro pre order date was announced on the Wednesday before. So by the same logic we should see the site updates to say pre orders from 1st tomorrow at some point.

So there’s still a good chance it will be from 1st :) if not I’m just going to get the 14 pro, I only want the new air for the midnight colour :)

MKBHD mentioned it is a finger print magnet so that made me change my decision else I was going for Midnight as well. Haha.

Is the availability announcement generally at the same time (10:00 Pacific time)as other Apple announcements or when ever.

Oh boy July is shaping up to be an expensive month for me. I expect to get the Steam Deck buy link in July, and new MBAs. My credit card is ready!

That's a good question I don't know the answer to. I think if Apple doesn't announce an availability date during a keynote, they kinda just drop it whenever. Maybe I'm wrong about that... but that's my sense.

Going off when the m2 pro 13 inch pre order date was announced… we should see the date announced tomorrow (29th June) not sure what time, that pre orders will go live on Friday 1st for shipping on 8th. If not then I got no ideas lol

The M2 MBP pre-order date was announced on a Tuesday, 6/14. That’s generally a safe bet for announcements such as these, so I’m guessing we’ll need to wait at least another week for 7/5 to arrive :/

So that's a Tuesday with no announcement. Updating my post from last week:

"with the M2 Pro, Apple announced availability the morning of Tuesday, June 14, followed by preorders that Friday and release the next Friday (June 24).

Repeating this pattern for the Air, if we assume "available" means the release date itself, we should get an announcement about preorders on the morning of:

Tuesday, July 5/12/19 (preorder July 8/15/22, available July 15/22/29)"

The M2 Pro preorder date was announced around 7am Pacific on a Tuesday.

july is 2 days away (altho, once that buy button lights up, there will probably still be a wait for shipping dates). if you want the air, wait. if not, the 14 & 16 pros are awesome machines...

Seriously tempted to get the 14 or 16 pro. With same ram and SSD the price isn’t much more…. An the screen is better on the 14/16 pro, its just a bit thicker and no midnight colour

FWIW, I've had a 14" pro since launch and have considered selling to get one of these. Main reason is having had a 13" pro at the same time as the 14", despite just being a bit thicker/heavier, it felt like quite a difference in bulk, so it has been on my mind. Plenty of folks say it's a negligible difference... it really isn't when you have both in hand. And the new air will be that much less.

While I sold that 13", still have a 16" for work and I don't feel the screen improvements are really that notable. The only thing still making me pause is the higher brightness screen... w/ a 3rd party utility called Vivid, I can actually boost the screen to 1000 nits in a pinch. This has been a godsend for working outdoor, although it cuts battery time virtually in half.

What's this 3rd party app Vivid..? I assume it would work with my m1 MBA?

It only works w/ the new 14/16 pros due to the screen that goes up to 1600 nits when watching HDR content, 500 for anything else likely due to battery life concerns. It unlocks the ability to go up to 1000 for everything.

If the M2 Air had the ability to go higher in brightness, even to 800 or so, I'd likely switch. One of those things that doesn't seem like a big deal until you use it and then you can't go back.
