It seems strange to me that they would wait till after the earnings call on Tuesday to release new hardware and a new OS. Usually these things would be released before so analysts can determine future stock valuation and determine future earnings for next quarter. Apple would also like to give some guidance as well. Remember stock values are not determined on the outcome of the previous quarter but the estimation of next quarter revenue growth (which is why Apple usually goes down after reporting record profits for previous quarters because Apple is notorious for "low balling" next quarter earnings).

I hope they increase the student discount from $50 to $100. All the other laptops have $100+ discount I believe.

Macbook is not 100 dollars discount. MBA is very aggressively priced as it is. SSD is not cheap.

Late 2009 iMacs were announced right after a conference call, as was the introduction of the new Magic Mouse. The iMac was a major bump to, first time they implemented a 21.5" and 27" with quad core chipsets.

Isnt it obvious to anyone else that Apple will wait until the quarterly numbers are announced to release Lion & Macs?

Not sure why some people are asking to apple to lower the price on MBA. The sales are as strong as ever. You don't lower the price when the demands are going thru Roof. Apple will beat WS' Expectations, easily. Their shares will soar again...

MBA isn't getting cheaper. It is going to get faster and that's all anyone should be expecting. Backlit Keyboard? Yea... right.

I was hoping for at least 1 USB 3.0 port... :(

as i've said more devices out there that support USB 2.0 and new ones will be with USB 3.0 quicker than thunderbolt devices...

you watch and see usb 3.0 devices will outnumber the thunderbolt ones like firewire....eventually it will take off but not as fast as usb devices because everyone already have usb devices...

Here we go again... MBP's don't even have USB 3.0 yet, and you expect USB 3.0 on MBA?

Also intel doesn't support USB 3.0 on Sandy bridge. It won't be until IVY Bridge.

People expect just way too much from one update. Crazy...

Last time MBP got updated, they only added Faster CPU, GPU, HD camera and thunderbolt.

Let's see what MBA gets...

All of these expectations make me feel like this is the last MBA they will ever make.

Right - there will be no release until we hear that managers are notified to work overnight on a merchandizing project. Would Apple release MacBook Airs on the day of their earnings call? I doubt that - so Thursday the 21st or Friday the 22nd.

They might as well start guessing again.

Next week is far more likely now anyway.

And if anything was happened in China or the UK we would know about it, it would be all over twitter.

I received a message from someone on Regent Street and no blacked out apple store, 1 hour after closing. So that is rubbish. It won't happen friday either.

Either next tue or next thur. And it makes sense, surely they need enough time to approve all the updated apps.

Who knows it could be apple planting all these mismatched rumours. It creates excellent hysteria and is good free marketing. That's why apple is like a religion to some people, it becomes emotional.

(Bucking the "why aren't these rumors more factual" posting trend ;)
Hope they built a lot of those things. They are going to fly off the shelves.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

I don't agree that they "HAVE" to release Lion before or at the same time as new hardware.

What's to stop them from shipping MBA's with Lion on a Tuesday and releasing Lion on the app store the next Tuesday?

Nothing.

I think Apple purposely made all signs point to today just to piss the rumor sites off.

It's not strange at all. Analysts know Lion will be released in July and they also know what products are likely to get updated this Q. They speculate on valuations all day long. What Apple wants to do is own the conf call rather than other way around and get the headlines it wants. Best way to do that is not create distractions since Apple does not talk about unreleased product but would have to discussed released product.

If you're certain in your expectation that they will beat expectations then get out there and remortgage your home and buy Apple stock! Then again, perhaps wall street analysts have pored over more rumors and data that even macrumors readers and have priced it in, or even optimistically... I think sales figures will be less scrutinized than forwardlooking statements giving any indications of succession plans to be honest.

I shouldn't be this anxious for an operating system. There are so many things in life to be passionate about and I have so many other things to focus on, but I still find myself waiting with bated breath for what is sure to be a sluggish, buggy OS release.

Hey Look, I Can Do It Too

I think we will have new MBAs by 2013. You can take that to the bank. This is getting more comical than that whole end of the world thing the other month.

Next Rumor is going to say:

MacBook Airs coming sometime this Month!

All these rumors are getting ridiculous...(Bring Page 2 back)

Isnt it obvious to anyone else that Apple will wait until the quarterly numbers are announced to release Lion & Macs?

True. They usually don't want product announcements and the earnings call to interfere with each other. The quarterly numbers will be interesting, particularly since there were no major product releases (no new iPhone, no new Macs, etc.).

Apple isn't enthusiastic about USB 3.0. Once the Ivy Bridge chipset adds native support, they may have no other choice but to include one, but they aren't going to add a chip to support a competitor to Thunderbolt.
